GN 250 RACING - A suggestion

This probably isn't the most original idea however I'm keen to go ahead with it and want to see how many other people would also be keen and interested in helping to develop the idea.

In short, it's pretty basic, I won't get technical (not that it is, or anything) but hopefully in this thread we can discuss the possibilities and end up with a group of people racing GN 250's !!

Idea
Take stock GN 250's of any age and race them around a 'Bucket Like' track that would be setup in a Car park or we could use a Go kart track like buckets (I think Mt. Welly is about $300 for a day, is that correct?).

This would be highly competitive and will come down to the riders skill.

Rules
Only modifications allowed will be tyres and handle bars.

GN's hold their value and parts are dime a dozen, for $3,300 you can have yourself a brand spanking new race bike that is stock standard competitive Or if you're skimp then $400 - $1000 will get you a decent one from Trade Me.

Why not just do Buckets you ask? same thing I guess, just a different class so to speak.

So who is keen? I know of a few places around Auckland with good sized parking lots that could be acquired on weekends and have a few tyres, etc. setup.

Honda CT's are better.. my friend crashed his (workmate) in a car park last night (hooning around), the bike is still in perfect condition, besides the 10meter footpeg mark in the parking lot now here's something else funny (since we were there earlier in the day

I had another thought, because racing in general is usually boring (well it is for me, especially watching it on TV, apart from the crashes) ... I wonder how legal it would be to run a little 'prize' thing.

Everyone pays a registration fee of $5 or $10 on the day and then that is divided up between the race winner and the rider with the overall best lap time of the day.

No really, those CT's are too exspensive compared to the GN250 and everyone (well amost everyone) started riding on the good old Ginny.

Just get a group of you together and run them in post classic. There is four of us running CB250rs down here and have a blast racing ourselves and if its wet you get to play with the big boys! CB250rs v SR250 v GN250 would be fun.

Swanny this just sounds boring. Part of the fun of racing is being able to tinker with your bike to make it the best you can whilst keeping within the rules and guidelines of the particular class. I think I get where you're coming from, trying to make it easier for people to get into and bring it down to skill not how big your wallet is - but buckets already achieve this. And also, in the smaller CC classes a lot of it comes down to rider skill rather than machine capability.

Careful there, you 'almost' made a sweeping general statement, glad you saw there error of your ways...I started on an MB100, prolly more gutless than a ginny lol.

Some of the bikes in bucket racing have had in excess of $1,000 spent on the engine alone to acheive 20 + HP or more in some cases.

The 'bucket' sport has grown beyond what it use to be and now you need a minimum of $1,000 to have a decent crack at it, and the on going cost and commitment involved is also increasing.

GN 250's have a unique relationship with New Zealand's motorcycling legacy and it would be nice to see it live on through another medium - racing.
