How come wellingtonials never mention the 30km of bumper to bumper stationary cars to and from porirua every day.
That is much worse than Auckland's situation surely?

It's not stationary; it moves. And at around 60kph too.

Coz it ain't worth mentioning. It may be bumper to bumper at peak hour, but only from Glenside to Wellington. It takes an extra 10-15 minutes in the rush hour to get to/from work.

Roads were great for riding today. I noticed the pic certainly shows the way it was on the motorways this morning.

Every time I have been through there - 6 or 7 only - it has been a complete shit fight. But every time.

I'm from the Hutt so I can't speak from experience but the new roundabout and the price of petrol have really reduced the traffic up there from what I've been told. The problems now the railway crossing south of Pram, which is nearly sorted.

Auckland's traffic woes are primarily due to increased volumes in an outdated infrastructure. Wellington's problems are often due to physical geographical features. A level crossing on SH1 McKay's, a steep gradient in the gorge, the crumbling cliff-face on the fault-line that is SH2, More traffic lights on SH2 through the Hutt that any Aucklander could shake a stick at, the Wainui Hill, and River Road with it's ice prone river crossing.

Having lived and commuted in both cities and despite the above, I'm glad I live in Welly.

The main road from my part of the shore to Auckland is as nearly bad on Saturdays as in peak periods. All those soccer mums I guess.
