Land speed record broken in Bonneville

The outright land speed record on a two-wheel vehicle powered by an internal combustion engine was broken on Tuesday 5 September by seven times AMA dirt-track Champion Chris Carr on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.

The machine used for this attempt, the “Lucky 7”, is a streamliner with a specially-built 3000cc V4 turbo-charged engine.

    Carr recorded a 1km flying start speed of 351.062 mph (564.979 km/h) and a 1-mile speed of 350.884 mph (564.693 km/h)

Flying start indeed... don't the big 747s etc... fly at around 500 - 550 km/h?

Chris Carr is a dirt tracker - he plants a steel shoe on the track at over 160kph sideways,on a Harley, getting a knee down around a roundabout would be pretty easy for him I'd say.

Ironic how dragsters get within 30mph of that speed in only a 1/4 of a mile.....

But can they run the 11 miles it takes to do a LSR run? A lot of the guys who go to Bonneville race dragsters the rest of the year, there is some cross over of technolgy, but not as much as you'd think.

I'm gonna buy a shack in Invercargill, piss on a lemon tree and fiddle with my VTR until it can break that record.
