But undertaking is illegal if the traffic is moving... But I dont want this to turn into a cop bashing thread. There has been enough of that.

As I said, big ups to members of the thin blue line for dealing with all the shit I would never be able to deal with (and live a somewhat normal life). I feel safe in my neighbourhood and I grant that in part to police.

NZ cops on the face of things are a hell of a lot better than MOST places in the world.

I think I will do the *555 next time....

I was doing my own thing today and I happened to see something rather amusing. A HP driving along, in a residential area, while talking on a bloody cellphone. Someone stated something about the perks of the job? I'm sorry but that is utter bullshit and a good example of the crap attitude that underpins the whole problem. Rather than taking perks of the job, it is my firm belief that all members of the Police should act as role models , rather than breaking the law and then having other Police just say its perks of the job! Had the same HP have stopped me for any reason what so ever, I would have just laughed at him and they wonder why they are loosing public respect. Someone should teach more people that respect is earnt, not just given.

    Nope... just woke up...

Still... hasn't broken any law... isn't illegal to use a cell phone while driving... yet...

It "might" be mentioned in the road code, which isn't the law by the way, but when its in the Land Transport Act I might take notice...

    Nice troll!!

You do know of course that more and more Police/HP are using work-provided cell-phones to overcome those that haven't got a life and sit at home listening to scanners? (Oh and criminals who are out and about depending on scanners to let them know when the fuzz is about)
    You DIDN'T know?
Well get use to it, work cell-phones are here to stay

Or did you KNOW he was on a private call???

Not if you're in a different lane to the vehicle you're undertaking. Which he was.

I saw a cop driving down the motorway texting on his cellphone not so long ago, I rode up beside him and waved my finger at him. He just smiled.

I also had a big islander cop with a white cop chick in the passenger seat pull out in front of me on purpose in Pakuranga about 3 weeks ago, I skidded approaching his car and swore my fucken head off at him and he just laughed!!!! so I shouted some more expletives at him gave him the fingers and carried on. The cop in the passenger seat just looked completely shocked the whole time. If he wasn't a cop I would have got off and smacked him one and removed his mirror.

Firstly cheers, as for you question on the red bling , they are breaking the law of common sense. There is plenty of studies regarding how talking on a cellphone while driving adversely affects drivers. I am yet to read anything suggesting that driving while talking on a cellphone is a good idea. I once again reiterate that the Police should be working as role models regarding the law, behaviour and plain common sense. What stopped the HP from pulling over, or using hands free? What difference does it make regarding the type of call, nothing. Lets get one thing straight, the HP had the phone up against his ear talking. The literature suggests that not only will his reaction timing be retarded, but also he now only has one hand to drive. It amazes me that just politely pointing a few facts has some yelling troll. You running for the Labour government scumdog?

So you're telling me the police can afford big block Holdens, afford the fuel to put in said Holdens but still can't afford hands free kits for their work 'phones?

I say move to Astras/Vectras a couple of VX220's for pursuit and give the police a pay rise AND provide hands free kits for their work 'phones.

Jeez - no wonder you guys complain - poor sods - whose in charge, let me have a word with them.

Red bling is merely an indication I dod not agree with what you are saying, it does not mean I want to rip your guts out and jump on them, 'kay?

We talk into radio handpieces when driving all the time, no different to answering a cell-phone (But I would understand you being a tad perturbed if you saw the cop using his radio AND his cell-phone at the same time).

As to why the HP didn't stop? Danged if I know but I guess on motorways it might not be convenient, the hands-free thing is a no-go, the Govt is too cheap to supply them. (The Gov't is too cheap with lots of seemingly important stuff that the public expect its Police to have)

And what is the fine demerits and the precedent code for 'breaking the law of common sense'???
And I'm not sure everybody out there in KB land would be happy with me pulling them over and giving them a ticket for breaking the law of 'common sense as mentioned by inlinefour'!!
