Bikes and heels...

OK... sorry if this is a completly blonde question, but.... can you ride a bike in heels? If so, how do you change the gears.. as wouldn't the heel get caught on the footpeg?

Guys... you're more then welcome to comment on this.... but I would like advice from some one who has worn heels on a bike before. So it will worry me if you have any advice hehe

Another early bird hey!! What kind of heels are we talking here, like stilettos or just a decent heeled boot? I would suggest no to the first and give it a try to the second. I personally don't like the heel on my riding boots to be any more than about 2 inches, but that's just what I feel comfy with, too easy to get caught up and stuck on pegs. Same goes for shoes with chunky kind of grip on the sole. Good luck.

my gf actually likes riding with one of her heeled boots (heel only about 3/4 inch high) the heel is at exactly right place on her boots so that she can hook the heel behind the pegs and her feet are in perfect position to change gears and use the brake though... She's not home now to give first person accounts but will ask her more when she gets home this afternoon. exactly what aspect of riding with heels concerns you?

Mind you she only enjoys riding with that one pair of boots and no other heels if you have small feet or the heel is at the wrong place you might find that your feet are not in proper place to shift gears and brake I imagine...

[edit] - additionally when I'm not wearing my riding boots (which is very rare) I am wearing my black dress shoes which have soles about half a centimeter high... hang on my riding boots do too... they just tuck behind the pegs when I'm riding and lets me change gears but again, if you can't reach the pegs with the heel or sole tucked behind the pegs you might have trouble.

Hey thanks Mrs KD Lol, a couple of pairs of boots... none of them have stilettos though. I think I'd prefer to ride in proper bike boots (with no heel) but I was just thinkin bout the few times I'll be going into to town and would rather not take 2 pairs of shoes but wanting to wear heels ( I need the height ) so I'm just trying 2 find out now what would be more suitable and if it's possible... instead of trying my self and possibly falling over the bike or something incredibly ditzy like that .

personally im not thet comfortable riding with any sort of heel...i dont like the prospects of getting "caught up" in an emergency situation.......but at the end of the day its what youre comfortable with....

Thanks yea... it is exactly that that I was worried about most... as I found with my old TT250 (dirt bike) that I would have to organize all the gears and stuff before I would hit bumps as I couldn't stand and change gears as my feet were to short to reach the gear lever whilst standing. I guess it's just a matter of hopping on the bike, checking it all before riding any where?

The thing is whatever boots you wear, if you wear them enough while riding, you'll end up scuffing them up anyway. I say embrace the height restriction you've been given. Wear whatever is comfortable and easy to get on or off (I give the same advice to all the women I know)

I agree with colapop, why would you want to be tall anyway... short buggers like me will just hate you for being tall...

I had school balls ... once upon a time many moons ago. Never wore dresses though. Tall is good, short is good, the only problem you should worry about is whether you're hung up about it (like Bobsmith).
Wearing (boots with) heels shouldn't be a problem. If you change gear with the top of your toes (I assume everyone does) you'd have to have pretty tiny (like small childs size) feet not to have the peg in the arch of your foot with whatever size heel hanging off the back of the peg.

i dont ride in heels.... the Sidi's have a slight heel on them... they are great when pillioning... and changing gears when riding.....
years ago i pillioned with chunky heels and it sucked..... couldnt get cumfy on the peg...
so i would go for a small chunky heel if you must....

i sometimes where my high heels, but then i also sometimes ride in a mini skirt, and even in bare feet. but if you want to keep your feet if you are in an accident and get run over or something wear your riding boots all the time and take your fancey shoes with you under your seat. its really not worth the risk.

Try the Sidi Rose Tepor boot. It is a black leather waterproof boot and when worn under jeans/pants etc looks like a nice dress boot but has built in armour for riding. I wear this virtually every day throughout winter and it has yet to wear down anywhere.

I got a pair of these and they are awesome boots, really nice to look at, look like styley boots, comfy as and lovely to ride in, not cheap, but worth every cent I reckon.
