No not mine, there are a few of them around town. I saw this one at the testing station and it looks very original. If it goes for under $1500 it will be a bargain too. It also has a pack rack Pat!

In your quest for parts did you come across a dismantler with parts for an 86 or thereabouts Virago 750.Looking for a set of the engine side mounted air filter housings intact and in good condition.Searched ebay but cannot find any. There a few more front guards on sale though if you are interested.
Pat
I bought the XJ750 guard off Trademe so I hope the wheels are the same diameter! Sorry but I didn't run across anything for an '86 XV750 on my travels, although I was asking about earlier bikes so they may not automatically mention them I guess.
The guard is a perfect fit and the right diameter so that's a useful tip to file away for future use. It isn't chrome so I will paint it black with flames (of course) to match the tank and side covers, and probably back guard too.
latest listings on trade me , an xv 750 , parts on offer include an xv 750 chrome guard which looks in very good order.Thought you might be interested i have emailed seller to see what else he has not that I need any parts but who knows.

How did you bring back the shine on the engine?, specifically, the cylinders.
Homer you shot the zombie Flanders !
He was a Zombie?
They aren't really that shiny - they're just really really clean. I polished all the engine covers, timing chain covers and every other aluminium bit that would come off by buffing them on the rag wheel and polishing with Autosol. I had both barrels off to replace the base and head gaskets so while they were off I gave them a severe cleaning with both the wire brush and the dremmel (hand tool) and polished them up that way. They did come up very well and I will do the same on my next bike. The other thing I did was use the spray can engine cleaner made by CRC - a couple of cans did the engine, wheels and a few other critical grubby bits. If you are planning on polishing the engine covers you need to strip off the factory laquer and I used automotive pain stripper for this.
I turned her over today and much to my surprise she ran. Still don't have the pipes on so the neighbours got to enjoy it too! Here is the u-tube video of the historic event...
