Hogfarm is still going strong since 1979
Funny coincidence, this thread. I was bored at work today and started googling to see if anyone had done anything similar. There's a few ricechopper-type sites but no-one seems to have really taken this sort of concept - sort of new tech paying homage to the old style but still distinctively 21st century - and run with it.
The long wheelbase choppers are much more suited to flat, open highways such as in the US. The shorter wheelbase modded bikes like the one in your pic used to be called 'bobbers'. There a few nice-looking Harley bobber examples on ebay, but nothing that really pushes the envelope for me.
I'd love to build one from scratch with a decent, fuel-injected, modern V-twin in a custom frame. One day........
My new project is well under way, my spare Z1300 is going to be a street monster, I have gone away from the supercharger in favour of a turbo and injection setup. As you can see I have ZX12 forks and wheels also 6 pot Tokiko calipers, the rotors should be here in a couple of days care of eBay Australia.
I have a Hyabusa swing arm with single shock to modify for the rear, after I have cut the whole rear section of the frame off and made a new one that is. The ZX rear wheel will have to be modified to take the drive unit and move the rotor to the left side.
I have to cut the steering tube off the frame and replace it to properly fit the new forks, it has dropped the height of the bike quite considerably, I just hope I dont scrape the engine on the ground when cornering![]()
All work (except the wheel) to be done in house, along with a complete redesign of the bodywork.

ive done that and its not that flash. Two up on a CB750F1 over the 'Takas.... you got so used to the sound of scraping that you ignored it.... until my left foot got very wet and hot all of a sudden..... looked down and "Oh Crikey"
I had scraped through the alternator cover and it was engine oil all over me, and the bike. Very gingerly stopped at the side of the road and trailered the poor old girl home.
I thought elections were decided by angry posts on social media. - F5 Dave
There is a new shop in Lower Hutt that imports the custom bikes...
Im not sure, I don't want a normal chopper style bike with the long forks, no ground clearance,
I was thinking of messing around with my bike (when I get a new bike as so I can still ride etc) Short wheelbase, nice looking frame tank lights etc and high ground clearance. Sorta/slightly/will remind you of older road bikes 1970-1980's (in terms of looks). Get rid of the plastics.
Its going to be a long process - I dont even have a clear idea in my mind what I want :P

Previously mentioned in this thread was Hog Farm, they are just outside Auckland and do good frame building work. They will listen to your thoughts on what you want to achieve with respect, well they did for me and they do exactly what you ask for. They built a frame for my chop and helped with the forks and sorted the engine mountings. They also modified the tank. I don't weld and wanted someone that would do a good job locally. Look them up and give them a ring.
There is also another thread going on at the moment about chops and frame building.
