I'm gonna reserve judgement until I park my arse on them and take 'em for a blart through some twisties - then I'll decide on what my weapon of choice will be.

    I'm hooked on V-Twins though....

Back to the topic - it would be very interesting to get a Spada and a VTR in one place - dismantle the engines and play "Spot the Difference" to see what they used to do and compare it to what they do now. Y'never know we might spot something very simple and we'll be able to charge loadsa dosh for giving people's VTRs 8 extra ponies. I believe the engines are basically the same but haven't investigated this so will happily stand corrected if I'm wrong.

That VTR of yours is a mean little bike, sounds bloody good & pretty quick for a 250.

Am keen to see it after all the work you've had done to it.

Apparently they're not that similar actually. I can't remember where I heard this but yeah. I don't know if it's true or not either, but one main difference would be 6 speed (Spada) vs. 5 speed (VTR).

Putting a different gearbox will not change the HP at crank - I'm talking about the differences that cause a 249cc 90 degree V-Twin to generate 8 more hp at the crank - is bore and stroke the same? - do they run at the same compression? Is the difference in the carbs or is it something more fundamental? - are they totally different engines or do they share 80% of components?

i.e. different gearbox does not mean different engine.

Just search on google for engine specs for a vtr and a spada. Then compare them.

not as much fun as pulling 'em to bits...
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

I agree, and besides, I've found various spec sheets for the Spada - all different! Ranging from 34bhp to 40bhp for the same model bike! some claim 2 valves per cyl some 4...could have my work cut out for me just comparing 1989 Spada to 1989 Spada.

Shame I'm not interested enough in the subject any more...off to find a thread with titties in it..
