    Question Yamaha R1 oil type

    Hi guys

Just wondering what sort of oil should I should use (or you recommend) when changing it in a 1999 R1. Am talking in terms of brand and viscosity.

    Thanks

True, I was thinking about changing to motul 5100, I heard thats good quality and makes gear changes smoother. Might try it next time.

ISNT THAT A SEMI AT THE PRICE OF MOBILS FULLY SYNTHETIC OPTION?http://www.motul.co.nz/product_line_...4stroke13.html

NOT THAT ITS A BAD OIL I USED IT IN MY 1000RX AND ZX10 , BUT THEN I DISCOVERED THE MOBIL 1 WAS CHEAPER AND BETTER

Do you think its best to go with a fully synthetic?

IF THE BIKE IS IN GOOD CONDITION ID GO FULLY SYNTHETIC , ESPECIALLY IF ITS CHEAP ENOUGH OIL

I just stole this from a forum I was reading today - .......

''The term synthetic no longer applies. A Federal Trade
Comission (FTC) judgement rendered the term "synthetic"
meaningless in the area of motor oil.

The FTC judgement has resulted in numerous products that do
not contain any of the traditional group IV/V synthetic
base stocks being labeled as "full synthetic". There is
probably more "synthetic" oil sold in this country that is
NOT group IV/V base stock than there is that actually
contains group IV/V base stock. So, none of this seal
leakage discussion even applies to most "synthetic"
products sold in the United States, because they aren't
actually even "synthetic" except by the FTC definition.''

    Thank you Kevin McCartney,Frenso California.

And you can thank Castrol for the word synthetic becoming meaningless, they won in court and now anyone can slap a synthetic label on any oil.

I use Mobil 1 Racing 4T in my FZR. And Mobil 1 2T in my Bucket and sometimes in my lawn mower too- smells GREAT when I'm mowing the lawn This is the important bit- I buy it from Allied Petroleum, they sell it to the general public at pretty much wholesale prices. Thats why I don't mind using it in the lawnmower.
