It's called 'the world community' rm. Just like if you live in a peaceful neighbourhood, the odd late party and occassional flare up which is resolved, then the neighbours down the street start flaring up big time, and developing methods of destroying your property, eventually testing one of these methods in the back yard to show how they are not to be fucked with. I'm sure most here wouldn't tolerate this.

As I recall the old Titan with its single 40 MT warhead was designed for just this purpose. The target is under a mountain, lets just move the mountain.

Do you think Uncle Sam could/would get involved in another offensive whilst they're so engaged elsewhere?

Is it purely 'sabre rattling' on North Koreas part?

    Bit scary I think.
Largely sabre rattling. North Korea has paranoid leaders with delusions of grandeur. They want the world to take notice of them and the ultimate way is develop a nuclear bomb.

There is every chance they have developed this bomb, and worryingly, will test it. Quite what the world does about it is another matter. Does the UN have the stomach to approve an international invasion to disarm them? Somehow I doubt it. The USA? Perhaps, but they really have enough on their plate with Iraq and Afghanistan.

While developing a nuclear bomb (which is an expensive process), North Korea's people have faced famines. Various aid agencies have delivered food to NK. Something out of kilter here.........

The UN should be invading to feed a brainwashed populace. Should have done it 20 years ago.

The UN council is a bunch of Pansies IMO. Always talking about doing something, yet never actually doing it and then condeming a country that actually does it.

    Kind of like our govt...
To every man upon this earth
    Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
    Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods

Pyongyang is obviously afraid for its security, they see a nuclear deterrent as the only way to gaurantee that they won't be invaded.

The sad thing is, nuclear deterrents largely work. And this is why nuclear weapons increase a nation's defensive AND offensive power, even if the weapon itself is never used: The threat of a nuke provides an umbrella from which conventional attacks can be launched with (for the most part) impunity.

So it is quite easy to see why those interested in the stability of the region see the development of these weapons as a critical threat, just by virtue of their existence. There is much posturing as to whether North Korea would ever be so insane as to use them, but that is actually a side issue.

The Koreans behold a weapon much worse than nuclear and it inflicts much pain and suffering to the civilised world. The Hyosung.

    They should be stopped.

Quite possibly the case, like I asked when I started this thread. But when your 'sabre rattling' involves 'test firing' long range missiles and you aim them so they land not far from Hawaii (presumably to show Uncle Sam "We can reach you"), you've gotta ask yourself....?

Should one of their missiles that's carrying a nasty payload 'malfunction' (which they've been known to do) and go astray....what then?

I guess you 'nip it in the bud'.

As much flak as the US of A gets, someone's gotta be the 'world police', else we'd have fuckhead power tripers like this clown going awol.

I simply pity the people of NK...true to all previous communist regimes, they're fed only what 'their leader' wants and allows them to hear.

    Sad.

I hope they let it off this weekend, preferably somewhere close by so I can watch. Not too close by, obviously. But, say, if China and NK wanted to start nuking each other, you know, I'd be cool with that.

My favourite thing about nukes is the way John Kennedy Toole had his black characters in New Orleans pronounce the phrase.

    Nucular bum.

Didn't realise the NKs had long-range missiles. Not that it matters. The main fear is for short-range Western countries such as South Korea and Japan.

Yeah well...I think the main fear is that you just never know what a freak like their 'Great Leader' will do full stop.
Anyone that'd let the majority of 'his people' starve while he spends millions on missiles and living the 'high life' (Western Style and tastes no less) is not well and needs to be 'removed'.
Perhaps instead of making a huge mess a-la Iraq they simply have him assassinated. Mind you, no guarantee that the next up to the plate wouldn't be just as bad.

    Worth a 'shot' though!

Bah. So what if they have nukes? Doesn't anybody else find it exceedingly hypocritical that the USA is trying to stop anybody from having nukes/big guns when they have themselves?

It's also worth noting that the USA is the only country to use a nuclear bomb in battle... and they didn't only use it in battle, they used it on civilians. Why the fuck should we trust them to police nuclear proliferation?

I, for one, do not think that NK would be crazy enough to actually nuke anyone. They'd get wiped off the map in the resulting carnage. USA, on the other hand...

The first and only time they've used them, and in doing so, they saved a lot more lives than they took. I don't think it's all that hypocritical....some countries are simply not stable enough to have access to such destruction.

Do you not think if Iran had them they'd not unleash them on Israel?

Do you think the Japanese would've dropped a few on the Allies had they beaten the Americans to it? The Germans?....it was all out World at war man.

I think it was a terrible thing, and the loss of life and resulting carnage was pretty horrific....but it was I believe, for the best when you look at the other possible outcomes for WW2

When one small country ruled by a paranoid schizophrenic is threatened by a large country ruled by an insane religeous fundamentalist, don't you think they'd be all too keen to get nukes as soon as possible?
If Saddam had nukes he'd still be in Iraq giving Bush the finger.
Still, it's funny how the Merkins aren't so worried about Pakistans nuclear arsenal. Have they thought of the consequences of a coup by Islamic fundamentalists in that country?
