2004 is a twin so I would think engine dimention, etc would be very different (89 is a inline 4 isn't it?) also the newer twins are bloody slow compared to the inline 4s...
I have deep pockets. It's just that it's a deep empty pocket...........

It wont be a simple bolt in deal, But It could be done.

Don't expect reliabilty though. Not if you start cutting and welding the frame

They stopped making GSXR 250's in the late eighties/early nineties...the 2004 bike is probably a GSX 250 which is a completely different bike...made in China. As far as I know there is no such thing as a 2004 GSXR 250 but if someone proves me wrong I'll happily admit I'm wrong.

I don't think the engines will swap easily.

You may have more luck with a Bandit 250 engine or even and old 250 Katana engine....

The wife's bike is a '88 GSXR250 with a GSX400 Impulse engine in it, bought it like that so not sure what the procedure was like. Looks tight in there but it fits and goes great!!

Yea you are going to have some trouble with that engine swap. Id say look for another inline4, maybe a cheeky 400 implant? If you have a good friend in the VTNZ or something to register it as a 250 you could have yourself a 400 before you know it

'89 (GSXR) is a water cooled inline 4, the '04 (GSX) is an air cooled parallel twin

crap ok this thing is de reg so i guess the 400 in the 250 frame and just reg as a 400 might be the go. Prob is ive got two motor original the cock left out side it fell over and he left it and he no 4s full a water last year or so second motor all good but very low comprssion needs valves to be done and new rings $112 per pot thinkin might get 400 runnun for less than that whould cost all up
