WTB: 1967 Triumph Trophy Fuel Tank.

As above,

One of my fathers friends came off his one which sadley resulted in his death. The bike is fine apart from the fuel tank which is fairly stuffed.
Does anyone have one or know where i could sorce one?? Probly not the most common part.

English (bigger 3.5 gal) or US (slimline 2.5 gal) tank?? If you are not sure post a picture here and the resident Triumph grinches can tell you.

British Spares in Wellington have a pretty good range but most tanks can be fixed with a bit of effort.

ps - Good tanks are not cheap these days..... Make sure you save the old badges and fuel taps and if possible the central styling strip.

I dont have access to the bike unfortunatly. But the tank is definatly beyond repaire. Father is fairly sure its a UK tank.

Any chance of a 'before' picture? Also check the engine numbers. If it starts TR6R it's a US model and thats a problem because the US model 'Tiger' tank is pretty rare.

The much bigger UK tank is a little easier to find but again, it's going to cost $$ to get one in good nick.

A 67 tank should have a tank top parcel grid (4 threaded holes in top of tank and gas cap forward) and the 'eyebrow' badges. The petrol taps exit at an angle at the rear of the tank.

When looking at a used tank look out for the usua; rust and the condition of the rear mounting tang (they break with depressing regularity) and there is a high chance it will leak at the front mounts if someone has used non stepped mounting studs (they just wind em through the base of the tank). All that can be fixed but it costs $$

You would be amazed what can be fixed though and you may be keen to try once you get a price from British Spares 04 939 8819 for a replacement (ask as them may even have a NOS one)

Pop up a before picture if you can so the correct part can be identified or try and get the engine / frame number.

The bike is in central otago and I am in dunedin so photos are not really possiable. (ex owners wife not very tech savvy) I have how ever passed on that engine number on so she can check it. Have also passed on the number for british spares. Most of the bikes coming into NZ would have been UK spec i assume?

In 67 that is possibly true but really NZ ended up with a lot of left over stuff from other markets PLUS a hell of a lot of the bikes here now came in used from the USA in the 80's. You could buy a reasonable 60's Triumph in the States for a few hundred bucks.

Is the lady concerned going to sell the bike? There is a reasonable demand for these things but to maximise the return I would recommend she does get it going, rego's and wof. If it's been off the road MAKE sure the plates are put on hold - it's worth it.

Oh - bugger - it IS a 650cc bike right? There was a 500 Trophy as well - different tank.

Oh great two different sizes now too, nothing is ever simple is it ha ha. Yes she plans to sell the bike. Would just like to get it going again first to improve resale. Once again i will pass on the different tank's for different cc' ratings. As far as i'm aware all the rego/wof is being taken care of.

Cool - then either tank will fit OK. Just make sure its not the later 68 - 70 version which will fit but woun't look quite right and you may need to shag about with the coil mounts 'cos they changed.

If British Spares don't have one try Les at Best of British in ChCh.

There is a 67 tank on trademe but it's stuffed - ie looks utterly unuseable or exploded or something? Anyway - don't bother.

If you can't get one I'll ask a mate in the US.
