Hello folks, new rider here. (Lucy)

Got told about this site from Crashe on trademe. Was really tempted to splash out on a Virago after having a look at them on her/his? advice, but.... got my bike today, after much looking around and counting of money I bought a GN250. Rode it home with a great big smile on my face. Last bike I rode was a Yamaha Razz 50cc which was great when we lived in town, but now we don't. Anyway, the GN fits me well, and felt great, and I really liked it. I have to go now and have another ride. You might see me on the roads of Auckland - red bike, big L plate, big arse. Cheers.

Thanks guys, I've been reading KB for a few days and it's gotta be one of the friendliest websites I've ever seen. I'm hoping the GN will do me for years and years, I'm not someone that needs to go fast to have fun...at least I haven't felt the need in cars so I can't imagine that will change. Seeing as I am 40 already! Although I already broke the terms of my licence by giving my Husband a pillion ride around the house.

I am assuming you mean around the outside of your house and not the inside

Gidday Lucy and welcome to the site.

Got my GN250 in May and have enjoyed it very much indeed. Take your time and practise one or two key things each time you go out for a ride.

    Heads Up and Enjoy

Heh heh, yeah the outside. We don't live too far from Whitford but far enough to not have one of those gigantic houses that have room for riding inside! REALLY like the look of the Viragos but and can see why you love yours, there was one at Mt Eden motorcycles but we couldn't get any people there to notice we were shopping so went to Colemans.

Hi Buckno... that sounds like a good plan. I sort of went about things arse about face, bought the bike in town and rode home via the motorway. Didn't really have a choice but traffic was slow and felt pretty safe. But I definitely need to practice lots of things. It's quiet out here where I live so I'll get a lot more practice in before I do some 'proper' riding. What sort of things exactly do you practice? (I plan to do another course a bit later on).

    Hi Lucy

Here is my 'log' so to speak of the first 6000km:
    http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...ad.php?t=30010

Take things slowly, one thing at a time, do a bit of reading and also seek out a riding mentor - check out further in this site for a KB mentor that may be near you or ride down to see you and give you some assistance and encouragement.

    Heads Up and Enjoy

Gidday Crashe, say thanks for that I didn't read further down the posts. Appreciate your comment.

My riding has been going very well and up around 7700km and the Restricted test coming up shortly.

Lucy all my riding has been recreational, and as such I have plenty of time to focus and practise on the numerous different things as a newbie. I endeavour to maintain a very strong disciplined approach... and talk to myself a lot in the helmet true and recite certain procedures to myself eg two step vision when approaching a bend etc.

Heads Up and Enjoy... Once again Crashe appreciate your comment thanks.
