Somewhere in the '80s it all changed. That's right Israel removed Iran's nuclear capability, and Syria's air force and air defence capability and Saddam failed to win the Iran-Iraq war.
Moral of the story? If you're an evil despot, don't let external Governments prop you up, and make sure you sell enough of that oil so you can buy all the equipment and training you need.
