Hampton Downs motorsport park .. 5 December update

From Franklin County News Tuesday Dec 5th.

    page 30 By Garrick Knight

Headline " WDC grants resource consent for Hampton Downs Motorsport Park"

The much-anticipated NZ$120 million Hampton Downs Motor Sport Park gained a crucial leg up last week when granted resource consent by the Waikato District Council.

The consent comes subject to conditions of which there are 99 and also appeals, for which the close off date is Jan 12th.

Provided all conditions and appeals are overcome, the project will still hinge on resource consent being granted by Enviroment Waikato.

Waikato District Councils Joint Hearings Committee saw fit to give the project the green light after prolonged debate on traffic flow disturbance brought on by Transit NZ and dept of erections/ sorry Corrections.

Hampton Downs Motorsport Park Mangaing Director , Tony Roberts says more than anything he felt relief at the announcement.

"It was a sense of relief, but almost a little bit of an anti-climax," He says "We've been at it for so long from a business point of view, we've had our horses on line, everything, so it was a relief ''.

Roberts says Environment Waikatos approval should just be a formality and he expects it granted by the end of the week.

"They never had any issues from the start. That should come through in the next few days".

Enterprise Franklin CEO Astrid Lambert, who apperared on behalf of, and in supporty of the venue at a Waikato District Council Meeting , is delighted that this significant step has been taken as the Motorsport park is a key ingredient in their planned Motorsport Hub.

"Its fantastic, it really adds value to the work we are doing on our Motorsport Hub," she says. "Having a place like Hampton Downs just 15mins away will be fantastic."

"It will be good not only in trems of infrastructure for the sport, but also business for the sport".

Lambert says they are keen to establish karting in the area, being that it is one of the few motorsports not catered for in Franklin, and that the Motorsport Park will bring an estimated NZ$35 million into the region each year and it will employ up to 400 people.

Im not sure where exactly the track is going to be, but as you are heading South on SH1 there is a "Hampton Downs" exit, a few km South of the Champion Raceway at Meremere.

where opinion holds more weight than fact.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

It is the farm land that is bounded by the Northern side of Hampton Downs Rd and the Eastern side of SH1

For the record Qkkid was in my bed, not the other way round

I think it's still 2 years away. 2 years too long for me, but hey, I'm just stoked it's happening.

For those interested there are photos available of the track progress on their site www.hamptondowns.com under "construction updates"
I had been told the difference between the lowest & highest point on the track is 75ft and the hairpin drops 5m in the turn. Looking at the contours in these photos I can believe it.

Far out! A race track in NZ with elevation changes!
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?
