    It's nice, but the road condition is patchy. There's a lot of bare tar, inevitably in just the wrong place, and in the wet that just ain't no fun unless you've got serious skill.

    The road out from Wanaka past Glendhu to Treble Cone is better, IMHO. Better scenery, better condition, just as twisty. And you have to turn round and come back, too.

    I'll have to get up past Hawea some time -- I remember the road to Haast was pretty spectacular, barring astronomical gas prices.

    if I can't make it down for Glenorchy.. can someone please do that for me again...
    Yeah, I might take the missus up that way on our little escape from the kids come New Year. Maybe on to Te Anau for a pie.
