you are looking up an aircrafts vapuor trail. Looks low on the horizon only because the earth is a sphere and he has just left the twilight zone.. Very spectacular across the north atlantic with the massive volume of traffic there.

If you love it, let it go. If it comes back to you, you've just high-sided!

Once I saw a rocket taking off, that was pretty cool, either it was a rocket or the P i was smoking. Oh look a rubber band that looks like my bike's wheel
Then I could get a Kb Tshirt, move to Timaru and become a full time crossdressing faggot
Light reflecting off a satellite orbiting the earth
low on the horizon, going mostly away from you (to aussie) - lots of actual linear travel, but to your aspect, very little - like a car coming towards you verses travelling across your path. and cause it's at 30000ft, the sun's still shining up there
The twilight zone, officially 6 deg (on average) of the earths rotation runs up from the surface away from the sun at an angle. It is a very defined demarcation between night and day. You don't see it from the ground but clearly seen from high altitude. The aircraft, is on the other side of the demarcation (twilight zone) in daylight to the west. Whilst he would be, say 30000 feet or more above the earths surface at that point he is lower relative to your position. Hence the low appearance on the horizon.
I have flown at an altitude some 10000 feet above another aircraft and yet when their trail first appears over the horizon you could swear that they were at your same altitude. Of course this doesn't apply to those followers or the flat earth society.

Well mister smart arse......i now think that this 'phenomenom' you speak of is in fact the comet that can be seen in the early evening sky's....i read in the Herald the other day that i was first seen in late August, and there was a pic very similar to the ones i took. The comet will be visible for another week apparently. The pics i took were of the Nth/Western sky at sunset which is were and when the said comet can be seen.....right, back to my holiday at the beach with the sun....
Yes, it is indeed Comet McNaught - got great views of it from our place but spent so long hunting for the remote control for my digital camera (to take long exposures and not have camera shake) that I missed the best shots. Here's one I took as it was disappearing over the horizon at about 9pm. It's a gorgeous day again today, so hopefully it will be a clear night again and I can get some better shots tonight. I took a few handheld ones last night but they are too dark to be of any use.
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!
its supposed to be visible for the next few weeks. glad i never stayed up to see hailys comet - this one is supposed to be the brightest yet
was clear in the sky just before 10pm in chch on tues night..... wondered what the fuckit was
Its the end of the world as we know it......
To every man upon this earth
Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods
