Hi Guys just got back from Herbertville, weather was great Friday & Saturday although wind got up last night. BBQ both nights, cocktail hour Friday night was great followed by movies on big screen, Sat night movies were good too especially as the surround sound got sorted - this is all in the campground under the stars.
Ladies who turned up were Viv, Mrs Skunk, Linda (Loopy),Jules on VFR400 2 up, Rachel on her GN250 last night complete with great big L plate, Mrs Skunk's sister Cilla lots of others with kids. Much partying was had by all who turned - accomadation ranged from tents, cabins, vans & bus.
We could all see the comet very clearly as well
For those who asked about the roads they are all sealed to Herbertville from Dannevirke or Waipukurau if you stick to the main road.

    Maybe next time

It was a good day, at least to start with.

I have got home. Trudi is staying with Elle, Mark and Biggles are waiting for the road to open.

Have a look here for a report of my interesting ride home.

Careful - apparently the crash on the takas involves cleaning up the load of SOAP POWDER that the truck-trailer was carrying. As well as oil/diesel.

    Please be careful, everyone!

I think bragging rites for the weekend riding has to go Hawkes Bay.

Saturday avo, rode down to Karaka Beach, lovely windy road all the way. Traffic miminal. Stopped at the beach for awhile, one of the guys went for a swim then back to the Patogata Pub for a beer and food.

Sunday rode to Wairoa and back with 2 other riders. That road is so much fun, will be heading up and back again soon. Compulsary pie on the banks of the Wairoa river from the famous pie shop, well actually the only pie shop. Once again miminal traffic, a little heavier on the way back but that sorta added to the fun blasting past them. The roads in good condition, looked a bit shiny in places but did not feel slippery. Passed some guy on a motorbike, looked like he must be on a world tour he had so much gear loaded onto his bike. Stopped for a beer on the waterfront after returning to the Bay and a couple rideing to Hamilton from Christchurch came over for a chat. Its cool how other riders come over and start up a conversation.

Friday got to see the comet, looked pretty good. If you have not seen it check it out, its visible till early Feb, next chance to see it, apparently 1000years ! Harr har....

Oh yer, the weather was lovely, hot and sunny all weekend.

Well, bar the frustration of the hill being closed for some and sadness for the families involved in the tragedy - the day was awesome!

We (Lissa and I) met the Kendawgs, Adrian (forgot log in name) and we waited for Biggles and OOPS! the guy on the awesome bike! *Forgot name BUT i would recognise you if i saw you again!* and waited and waited and it seemed a LONG time BUT twas probably only about 5 minutes and we decided that since they knew where we were heading we would head to Lake Ferry around Lake Wairarapa.....

We set off and the ride was absolutely beautiful and i even enjoyed the 45% angle of the bike on the first set of straights! We then turned towards Lake Ferry and the wind dropped and the ride was stunning. We got to Lake Ferry and Biggles and his matey were there already! We had kai and a korero and then left for the Gladdy. At this stage the Wellingtonians were gonna head there and then turn and go back BUT.....

Nooooooo........Some of us stopped for petrol in Martinborough, which was surprisingly empty looking, and we were then told about the Taka's being closed so......we rode to the Gladstone......and missed meeting the first lot at the turn-off only to find that we went another way anyhow and our first little incident was that bloody sheep who thought running alongside me and cutting in was cool - thank GOD for horns on bikes.......and the second incident were the cows Ask MrsK about them - it was the funniest thing i have seen in a long time!

Then at the Gladdy the Kendogs and Adrian decided to head off to Welly via the Pahiatua track and headed out after about 30 mins and i got a call about 10 mins later to say the guys had gone and to pick MrsK up - which i happily did ONLY to find her ignoring me and she was chatting up that gorgeous hunk of a Mobil worker *blinks*......

We were still waiting for news about the Taka's and finally a decision was made that it would open at 5pm, no 8pm no 10pm.........twas going on and on! We went to Salute to meet with Biggles etc and had dinner there - compliments to that gorgeous German chef there.....*Thinking i might ask him out*......*Hair twirls*.....

and i heard the hill opened at about 10pm........I also heard the weather in Welly wasn't that flash.....Twas lovely over here yesterday and today too.

Anyhow, I had about the best riding day ever. Riding with people who are better riders than me just makes me push myself a little bit further and quiz them about things that i notice. Nobody made me feel as though i was asking stupid questions and the great thing was that i could practise whilst riding. Thanks guys, It was an excellent day - for me anyhow! It was made better by the fact that nobody stole my custom shield. I could see there were some jealous stares *blinks*
