Is there anyplace in Auckland where I can learn basic maintanence on my bike? Things like lubing the chain, topping up oil/water, fiddling with the carbs etc
or is it easier to just buy a workshop manual and get going..problem is i really dont want to tow it to a mechanic if (when) i stuff up

In addition: Is there anywhere/one in Auckland that offers a Motorcycle Maintenance Course that includes the 'basics' mentioned above plus more advanced stuff?
Although I guess 'fiddling' with things other than the basics on a bike would void the warranty.

try ringing all the bike shops on barrys pt rd, one of them was doing a thursday nite fix and ride session, using there expertise and there tools but you pay for parts etc they show you how to do the work, cant remember the name of shop but it was opposite side of road from cyclespot,hope this helps

Some while ago Mr Frosty organised a couple of KB maintainance nights, to show peeps some basic wrenchery. Might be worth running another session or two ?

Apart from 'fiddling with the carbs' the rest is easy. I have been fiddling with the carbs for more than 20 years and still sometimes have to have a second go after a test ride (on worn out Dellorto's only), plus the proper tool for the job is $200+, depends on how keen you are, and look after your mercury guage and it's a one off lifetime tool. hdus001 - I have a digital copy of the Bandit 250 owner's manual if you need it (NB - NOT a workshop manual) Useful for specifications, capacities, service intervals etc.
