    FOR SALE: f3 race bike kr1s / yz490

This is a wicked quick bike, weighing less than 100kg, with the power of a 500cc two stroke motorcross motor in it.
It's really well built, been geared up for road racing. It has been fitted with 17" slicks, and an adjustable steering damper.
This will be a formiddable street circuit, and F3 bike, I bought it for this reason, but have since gotten another race bike so dont need it. (not F3, so wont be the competition.)

    call drewgilgeekilberry on 0274294838

might deliver in wellington for big box of beers

So in comparison to a 400 in f3 how would it go?

Wanting to give f3 a go and still deciding what sort of bike to get.
You know you had a good nite when you have to ask someone if you had a good nite.

Looks like a real weapon, anything that light with a big two stroke would be lotsa fun! Good luck with the sale.

Finding bits for a 490 now adays would be getting abit hard , & trying to keep it kool enough while racing could be another issue . Ran IT 465's 490's & Yz490's on the road & they all seized at one stage reguardless of what I did .

thats some constructive advice. just what a guy needs when hes selling a bike.

this is a weapon. when im riding it. im fukn scared. you have no intentions of buying a race bike as your too slow for the track, and now your slagging off someone elses that you know nothing about. blow a goat.

you can stil get BRAND NEW parts. just becaseu they stop making a bike doesnt mean they stop selling parts. and you probably cant tune them or forget to mix oil or maintain them if you blew yours up repeatedly.

    I'd be keen

    Looks a wicked bike.

I'd be interested, just a bit short on cash, will contact you if I can sort something out.

Have you run it on a decent track, and how did it go. Does it comply with all the F3 regs, and has it ever passed through scrutineering.

    Cheers
Ifallofalot, and yeah it hurts !!

Scariest bike I've ridden was a YZ490 in a GPz305 frame. It was a friend's F3 bike. On a par with a methanol burning ZX-4 another friend had, in a straight line anyway. Cornering was interesting. The KR-1 chassis would sort that issue out.

Woodruff Key used to turn though and that caused more issues than seizures.

Drew, I wish I could. This looks like my sort of bike.

The YZ490 is a single. That's the scariest engine... an overseas mate has one, the sound of it and the way the rear wheel just spins up is frightening.

I've read one authority on two stroke tuning (Kevin Cameron) that upping the oil in premix is more likely to induce, rather than reduce seizing. His logic was, more oil (as a component of premix) going through the jet = less fuel, ie a leaner mixture. His solution was to keep the fuel/oil ration correct, but increase the jet size.
FWIW Camerons H2R Kawasaki 750 triple was faster than the factory bikes at Daytona. And when it did fail, it was crank bearings rather than pistons.
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.
those cheap ass bitches can do anything with ductape.

Water cooling ok? A CR500 or KX500 would be a good motor as well.
How about fuel? If you could run methanol, it burns a lot cooler than petrol.

From owning a IT465 , IT490 & 1 YZ490 & a WR 500 . PE 250 , PE 400 , RM 400 , RM500 i know abit about these bike ya dick !! Wasn't meant to put buyers off this bike just letting them know some History with these type of motors when ridden on the road as that is where mine got used & raced on the dirt . Cooling of a air cooled 500cc 2 stroke has always been difficult as has getting the Fuel ratio correct for flat out rev's . Mikey if you want to try to give out shit make sure you know something about the Topic which is been talked about ! Clearly you don't .
