    WTB: 250 sports bike

I am in the market now to buy a bike to learn on haha,
I like the look of the zxr's and havnt sorted a budget as yet... so could anyone please recomend a place where I could find a reliable bike. I am not sure what is high K's on a bike, market prices, common faults, so tips would be really appriciated. thanx

    Trademe.

High K's? More important is if its been maintained properly(oil/filter changes every so often, engine work etc), but 70k plus is generally considered to be high K's for a 250.

From reading here the ZXR 250's tend to have cam chain issues.

Keep an eye out an trademe for gear, generally you can pick up pretty decent stuff for about 1/2 the price of stuff at dealers...as long as you know ur sizing it's all good. I'm currently thinking about selling my zr (pretty much naked zxr..similar engine but more relaxed seating position PM for more details.)

For a decent 250cc bike, which you appear to be looking for, I'd say more likely $4.5k plus, and then add full-safety gear on top of that. Have you checked out new bike offerings?

Alternatively, buy a cheaper bike (doesn't have to be 250cc), ride that for 12 months (you're over 25yrs right?) till you get your full licence and then step up to something more powerful (400-600cc) for the same amount of coin (roughly) as the high end performance 250's sell for.

ok roughly 4.5k, which is gettin to a limit on how much i am willing to spend.
cause I am a under 25 i think I will have to wait the full 18months

by the way, does the prices of bikes fluctuate according to the seasons?

Yes, before summer the prices go up a little..
If you do a defensive driving course you can get it down to 12 months from restricted to full.
