Well met GarryH and Cowboyz at Mamorial Park. Left the kermet mobile at Ashurst whilst GarryH and I toodled on to Dannivirk via back roads. I left Garry at Dannivirke and headed of towards Wimblton via the route mentioned above.
Excellent day so I came back the way I went with a little detour down a no
exit road just for the hell of it at Porangahua and turn off towards Pongaroa-Makuri-Woodville etc home.
On the way back I'd decided to poodle along at 85-90kph just to see how much extra range I get from the ol gal. managed to get another 23 ks or 8% extra range. Made keeping an eye out for hazards a lot easier too-sheep, cows, hawkes, dogs, errent 4 be 4s. Fair bit of pea metal about too which made things interesting at times.
All in all a very good run. All the gravel was fairly hard packed. Got a bit carried away going around one sharp corner a bit too fast and the CX had a lay down. No major damage, no witness's, great! Not a banana in sight either. Did notice the "R" clip on the front axle was missing though further down the road. A bit of lockwire was put into service when I got to the folks.
While I was gassing up at Havelock North I adjusted the tyre pressures a bit. Dropped the front 2 psi and raise the rear by 3 (Garry mentioned the rear appeared a bit low last week). Improved sealed riding a bit.
500kms of some of NZs finest back roads. Pics attached.
Stopped for lunch on my way back on the Blackhead Beach Rd and there was more traffic on it than on the entire ride to that point. Everyone waved.
Fantastic scenery. Just goes to show you don't have anything to flash to go off exploring. Popped into Meanies place on the way home. He'd had a great days fishing at Wanganui by the looks of his catch.
More pics of my sojourn-
what an awesome day for a ride Bonez .. great pics too![]()
Have toKarma ... Justice catches up eventually !!
Enjoy Hastings Cowboyz! We ought to get the crew out one of these evenings when you get back. The tracks could be good, but if that's too familiar then that Halcombe roads a bloody good one, and there's a few goodies around Mt Stewart too. Or up through Colyton and down into the valley is always good as well.
Jeez, glad you survived that slide with no major damage Bonez. I managed to drop my other bike doing about 10 kph on gravel out Alfredtown way a few years ago, smashed one of the engine side covers and lost about two litres of oil while limping back to Eketahuna.
Apart from that, sounds like a great day out, glad you're OK![]()
Just one of those moments of inattention more than anything else. Just stepped of the ol gal as she went down. No point in fighting 500 odd lbs. Do ones self an injury by straining a muscle or two. Had a wee chuckle to myself. Everything is farely well tucked in with bugger all alloy appendages to snap off and no fairing to damage. Left hand foot peg mount staightened with a quick boot (the one I made no less so the weld held up), gearlever sorted with a bit of pipe at the olds. Got to love good old mild steel as far as resiliance to bumps and knocks. A few more battle scars to go along with the ones she's already got. Like I said, there were no witnesses. Now that would have been embarressing.
He he he i dont know if i would have admited to that bonez, maybe you should see if you can purchase that sidecar and bolt it back on![]()
Nice pics, looks like you had a great time
I leave you alone for a couple of days and look what happens. I keep telling you shiny side up.. Oops .. I see how you got confused now - couldn't find the shinny side?
Good to hear you are not hurt. Even minor spills can have dire consequences.
looked like a good ride bar the gravel bit. Have to get out again now 9hopefully) your gravel fetish has worn off.
Glad that you got home okay, Cowboyz - please accept my apologies for the tossers who tried to kill you.
Diarrhoea is hereditary - it runs in your jeans
If my nose was running money, I'd blow it all on you...
just about to write a ride report on my weekend. Hawkes bay is a dangerous place huh? 2 in the space of about 5 k? MSTRS assures me that it is uncommon. Thinking I might just have to come back up there and see how my luck goes next weekend.
Mstrs is right, it is uncommon - mebbe it was Aucklanders left over from Art Deco weekend....![]()
