Thread: Chicks Ride for coffee and Quasi's Show, 10 March.

Yeah to tell you the truth I dont really care... Its not something I feel hugely passionate about. I just find it strange that people cant just do what they want and not have people giving them shit about it.

Girls, boys... who cares... do what you want. Im not really getting at anyone...

But I do have to call that in a gently chiding way. Kiwibiker's ethos has always been inclusive as Sels said and I'm perfectly happy to ride at the back and I like talking for goodness sake. Going for a ride with a bunch of guys can be a bit boring thanks to the Tool Time inspired grunt fest about chicken strips and bling. I like to talk about my kids for instance but none of my blokey riding mates want to hear.
Ah Jim, you're a rare sort and we love you for it And I know you'd say the same to my face, and I appreciate you all the more for the honesty.

How about 'Chicks, plus Jim2 and any other guys who don't mind talking about kids, periods, 'do these pants make my arse look fat', and the size of men's willies, coffee catch up and ride to Quasi's show' title for the thread?

I'm teasing and you know it!. I've appreciated the help and advice you, Ceebie, Colapop and Dover (yes, even Dover) have offered me over the last few days. But you know that you guys are rare types. Even my own hubby has been grossed out by most of the stuff I've gone through in the last few days so the fact that you guys are more than happy to listen makes you all incredibly different to the general male population.

Not a sexist comment, just an honest one.

I totally get the KB 'all inclusive' thing and it's great. Nobody is judged (great for us ginny riders...LOL) and nobody is turned away. It was never intended to be sexist or exclusive.

I probably won't end up going on the ride myself cos Dave won't want to go on a chicks ride, and unless I drag him to Waikanae, he'll find an excuse to do something else. But that's the thing - if guys don't mind the chick thing, then you're all invited. It's just advance notice that there WILL be girlie talk.

Hmm dont really know what to say. Thanks Joni, and jude and everyone. The main idea is to get to Quasi's show... and it doesnt matter who or how we get there..... or how long it takes us Like Jude said, it wasnt INTENDED to be sexist. Feel pretty bad about it now. So the more the merrier... although if no guys turn up now, I'll be pretty peeved

Jude I hope you can get to come on the ride, would be great to catch up.

I organised a coffee ride on sunday for people that sleep with me and Vicki and I had a great time.

I think the hot dog van guy was expecting a few more to turn up though...

Geeze, I know KB's meant to be inclusive and all (and by the way, love it and you all and blah blah) but let's not get het up about the occassional chick's ride, eh? I don't feel that strongly about whether or not guys come, the more the merrier.

I would point out that there is a Biker Angels forum on here and I presume it's there for a reason. I thoroughly enjoyed the last gals only ride. And I couldn't give 2 hoots if there's a boys only ride. What's wrong with it?

It is nice occassionally to have a gals only ride. And aren't there also 250 only, learners only, etc? Should we stop those as well?

(Guess we could organise it offline like little girly lepers. - p/t)

Sorry Ceebie, can't bling you again so soon, but thanks, you seem to get the concept of the "Chick Ride".
As Jude etc pointed out, it can be quite intimidating for the less confident to ride in a largish group of people, and lets face it, most organised rides usually have a larger percentage of males to females. The reason for chick rides was to get all the females together at once to go for a ride together and usually grab a coffee or lunch and to be able to gossip freely without the boys either dominating the conversation or us females feeling like we can't say what we want without the guys thinking "oh my god, what a bitch/slapper/dozey cow etc".
I honestly don't see what the problem is, but I think in future we'll just organise chick rides in private and not advertise, sorry in advance to any female riders who don't receive a pm about the next chick ride, make yourself known to me, as Lissa's said she doesn't want to organise any more of these as it seems sexist to some people. Thanks.

hehehe... is that what bex says?

Ok well, all sorted now. Dont forget to add your name to the calender if you are coming along for the ride. Guys... you better turn up, or I'll be bringing my water pistol for a showdown.

Me and my ginny will certainly be going even if its raining. (which it wont be!)

Pete... I want to test ride some bikes, if learners cant then are pillions allowed?

Maybe, just maybe, some blokes want to do that too, but in this case excluded because they are males. That is just plain sexist.
    What is your problem guys?

If the girls want to go for a "girls" ride why should you care.
You are doing the opposite of the 'KB spirit' you preach. It is in KB we find like minded individuals and have the opportunity to organise rides/events with these people. But what you have said is you can't do this in public if you want to ride with a selected group of people.
Male/Female is just one example, I have seen other targeted rides and I have even arranged a Hornet only ride to meet and ride with other Hornet riders (does that make me bikest?) Do you also get upset when you see a group of Harley's or Goldwing's ride past?

Mrs KD and others have stated the dynamic in a group 'girl' ride is totally different to a mixed sex ride. Why should you try to take away their right to arrange rides for the girls that I am sure will attract female riders that would not normally join a group ride.

All you will achieve from your posts and wise words is the organising of these rides to be done via PM, meaning newer females may miss out.
