    Thumbs up Re: Crime concerns

    Moderators please bare with me:

I don't know where is correct to post this:

QUOTE: GUITANA: NZ need to vent its spleen to our respective MPS?

How about we use this post as a guide, and maybe the Mods can assist by setting up a POLL:

    A Vote:

Would you support a NATIONAL march on parliament, to voice a collective concern, and tell the government to do something?

    Votes fore and against:

Hey its a start, and we could use this forum to gauge the numbers there of, then maybe take it outside the forum?

You can whinge at MPs all you want they don't care. They rely on NZers Goldfish memories so they only have to stoke the issues flame at election time. They also rely on the fact that it's pretty easy to get NZers fired up about an inconsequential issue while they pass laws that make it more expensive to breathe for the rest of us, let alone buy a house or a car or a bus pass.

If you want to make a difference pay more tax so they can hire more Police to stop you doing anything that may be regarded as fun.

Be careful what you ask for lest you get what you want.

I hate to say it but their own affect the Members' selfish interests and you'll be heard - otherwise no...

Which translates to hoping there is a high profile crime about a month before the elections, raising merry hell about it and getting a grieving widow on TV.

Now is the wrong time to march. As was mentioned - the goldfish memories of NZers are famous, and the next event (whatever it may be) will dilute down any mind share you worked so hard to gain.

Yours needs to be that next event. The last big thing before the critical debate or promise is made. Then you need ANOTHER one at the beginning of the penultimate year of term to make sure those in power have time to actually budget and do anything... then ANOTHER one just before the next election to keep it top of mind.

    The parlimentary system in NZ
Election Year -1. Bribes offered for next term, and the essential bribes from the last election fulfilled. Don't spend money on votes until you need to - and till it will have th greatest effect

Election Year. Form the govt - under MMP - this takes a while. We all know that, so why are we surprised when Winnie, Rodney, or Janette hold things up to make sure they get their term in the sun?

Do the unpopular shit. Back out of any promises, put up tax, reneg on anything you want. This is the time to be unpopular - people WILL forget

Election year + 1. Start to govern. It takes a while for things to fall into place and the work of laws actually being passed, and undoing the good that was done by the last govt (assuming a party change).

    Politicians are like Possums.
To start with they make kinda cool pets, then after a while you know eventually they will as a whole destroy this great country.
You then come to the conclusion that the only good possum is a a dead politician...opppps i mean possum

If they can ignore a referendum about crime and sentencing, "Joe Public didn't understand the question".......yeah right......then a march would probably be regarded in the same light.
