This doesn't sound right to me! I know that occasionally things can be delayed, but this is extreme, are you sure you have told us the whole story crack? From how you tell it it sounds like it took 45 mins from your dad starting to feel better to being able to speak, and in that time you made a cup of tea and answered the phone to ambo's. Is it possible that you weren't as clear with your directions as you thought?

Like confusing Palmerston North and Upper Hut? Somehow I think that type of confusion is unlikely. We have had a number of similar incidents in the deep south recently, like dispatching an Invercargill ambulance for a call out in Outram (25 kms from Dunedin and 11 kms from Mosgiel). The centralisation of call centers was always going to result in this confusion considering the number of duplications of streets, roads, suburbs. and even towns.

The only way around it is to keep your GPS co-ordinates by your phone and read these out along with your street address.

My work is extremely multicultural (europeans are a small minority amonsgt the thousand odd staff). I work day to day beside 2 1st generation immigrants (Indian & Filipino) who have better english skills than half the european and maori staff, but we also have quite a few migrant staff who we can barely communicate with (Mostly pacific islanders and chinese). It's not rocket science to me to only let migrants with good english skills in.

I hardly think it can be called a redneck view either because alot of the non european staff at work get pissy with the "hurroh dis meleu'apalngi from da manukau site. I no can login the confuser dis afamoon" users too.

Yes Mack I think I am pretty accurate with the times, yes it was extreme.

From when I pushed Dads wrist alarm, to when we stopped to converse with the Female Ambo driver bloody close to 50 minutes.

The call was made after pressing the button and hearing nothing at 10:50-10:55 am.

Dads MONITORING COMPANY ACCORDING to their logs, they dispatched an ambo at 11:03 am.

I walked Dad into the medical centre at 11:45-11:50: you do the math!

Nup, I've given up trusting 111 after that too. I'll dial 111, give them the address twice and tell them to trace the call.

Well it's your employer who's giving them jobs and presumably giving them a job offer in the first place to help them immigrate. From this I'd deduce your employer is trying to keep labour costs down and that's the real issue. Don't blame the immigrants nor the government, blame tightarse employers who're driving skilled kiwi's out the country and replacing them with skilled immigrants who may not have English as a first language.

Normal routine for me is to come back to office. Find a half dozen messages. More often than not half will be from some retard who obviously gets confused by new technology like answering machines so hangs up a few seconds after the message. Gawd only knows why they wait for the full message before hanging up. Sometimes they won't leave their number and complain when I don't call them back. Of the messages I can decypher, I call them back. Once or twice a week I get some ignorant bastard who just hangs up on me because I don't speak with the local twang.

If you don't understand someone politely ask them to slow down and repeat the message. If you really can't figure out what they're saying ask to speak with someone else.
