So. .
Reliable.
Doesnt use much fuel.

Makes you appreciate other bikes.
Well the list goes on.
Don't you look at my accountant.
He's the only one I've got.
When your topbox needs a topbox. Also your rear mudguard needs a topbox. opportunity missed - the panniers need them too.
New Zealand roads are not ideal for this I would imagine.

Dear sir. You have too much gear. Take the car.
Or better yet. Get the wife to take the car and buy an actual motorcycle. You can then meet her at the pub having checked in at the motel and several drinks in.
Don't you look at my accountant.

"I would imagine" .. ???
Sooooo ... you've never ridden one. Well ... any real distance.
I've toured the South Island (and on occasion the North Island) on my own ... or in the company of (many) other motorcyclists.
Some of which were riding earlier versions of the Goldwing. Most of the rider were well capable of handling the machine on all roads ... and in all weathers.
One rider on the 1500cc version ... I knew personally ... hit a sheep in the Ida valley (in Otago) and still rode it home to Timaru. He wore the bottom edges of the panniers out cornering. Trying to keep up with that ... "old Fart on a Leadwing" was the ruination of a few "Young" fella's reputation. And their bikes.
They are motorcycles that can and do cover the miles. In some degree of comfort ... and usually with a good sound system to boot. I was offered a 1500cc version for a long weekend on one occasion. It was a trip largely based on how far I could get between well spaced gas stations. One part of it was over the Arthurs pass ... followed by the Lewis pass ... and almost finally over the Haast pass. The final bit before a short run home ... was over the Crown range and back through the Kawerau Gorge to Alexandra.
And most of the storage space on the Gold Wing in question ... is probably reserved for the Woman in the relationship. His space would be the top-box above the top-box. And any compartment in the fairing.
Give one a go sometime ... it will surprise you.
When life throws you a curve ... Lean into it ...
I think I recently went on a ride with the bike in question. They were in a group of Goldwings.
they past me no drama, just casually like. I did see them coming and tried to make it as easy as possible.
that bike if its the same on has a good sound system, asked the owner to give you a demo of it starting up. You will be amazed.
Worth a look.

My mother cried
When President Kennedy died
She said it was the Communists
But I knew better
Would they drop the bomb on us
While we made love on the beach?
We were the class they couldn't teach
'Cause we knew better
We were born
Born in the fifties
Don't you look at my accountant.

I will never ride one for the same reason i will never ride a massive adv bike. I have 28 inch inseam. The other reason is I dont want to.
