Stayed in Westport the night, picked up tag from Denniston and rode to bluff in a day, a long trip thru Alexandra, Gore, then headed back up Catlins to Milton for the night - just thought it would make a good day trip. Now which way should I go home?

I love the way the equator isn't in the opposite direction to the South Pole ... same at Cape Reinga IIRC. Though I think that one throws in a couple of Tropics and other lines that are always due north (from the southern hemisphere, if you take the shortest route), in various directions.

No, You can claim the Tag by posting the picture.
You then get time to place the new tag. 1st person to post the last tag, has has the tag until new one is posted.

some tag games do have a time limit for posting a new tag, typically 24 or 48 hours. This is not so in this game though.we did have an instance where a person got a tag and then did not post a new one so he withdrew and the game reverted to the old tag again.

Higher than the DAM ...

Yes, higher than the power station roof, but not as high as the Dam, although the spray was. The flood knocked out the concrete access bridge to the power station and the only access was down through the dam, then wade through ankle deep deep water from the dam to the control block. The water level got to within 100 mm of the point where the last of the us would evacuate the station.

How close did it get to the dam being a waterfall ... ???

Jantar

Pleased to see this tag is staying in the South Island for a little longer. Looking at the stats from when it came back over the ditch, it didn't stack up very well for any South Island rider wanting to have a go at it. For example it went straight from Picton through the West Coast to Bluff, a couple of short stops in Southland, one in Central and back up to the Nelson area again. Bad luck for any East coasters and Canterbury riders fancying their shot at it!

Same for the other guy smokey who did it from Denneston to Bluff in one hit I suppose.
Not really showing any of central SI or west on either run. Just guys showing off their big rides is how it looks to me, heck at least when Jatz and I did the big run down to Bluff we only took it a wee way back up the island so others got a look in. Jatz could have taken it from Bluff to Picton then if we realised that was the game.
Maybe those two North Islanders just don't realise how much more to the SI there is.

Was the luck of the draw. Had ridden a fair bit of SI before picking up the tag. Was a day or two before I could post the tags, so anyone could have picked it up before I had time ta post my tags and bet me to it. Was a risk I had to take. As it was, ya were lucky I was not so rude ta put my second tag in National Park, as that was where I was before I could get close enough to an Internet connection. As it is, Winter is coming fast, so play with the tag in SI for all ya like, but ya can bet there are those in Mid NI (non-Dorklanders) that feel the same as you, having jump past them too.
The NZ tag will only stay alive if there are those keen enough to make a bit of effort to keep it moving. Having the Tag sitting idle while riders whine about it not being close enough to them, will see it die a Natural Death.
I recommendations are:

Don't whine, go for a ride.
Make an effort.
Don't complain if ya don't make an effort & someelse does.
This tag will go up and down the whole Country, Be ready for when it is near-by & pick it up (don't wait on the weather, cause I don't). Hell do some real riding, see a bit more of this Beautiful Country, and pick up the Tag on the way. Anyone of you could have done the same as I have when the tag was in my area, and it wouldn't have bothered me. Would have admired ya for making the effort (and the cheak).

riders need to place the tag far enough north for the next district's or towns rider to tag it and so on..... the idea is to travel the tag up the length of new zealand from bottom to top.[/QUOTE]

while it's great ride up & down the Is, I too think the tags are to far apart & if we take a look at what jmj said above we may need to cut the distance down on where we put the tag & if it's a bit thin on the ground, then we look at moving it further,

Hey all you NZ tag hunters, sorry it has taken awhile to get this tag, but with weather and working getting in the way, it was made difficult. So I got up today to find a warm sunny winter day oh yeah:yes:. I grabed the camera, dark visior (yeah I know dark it was sunny I tell ya) and headed off to Longburn bridge, Tag. Then it was off too .................................................. ............... not sure so I just started to ride thinking last time the NZ Tag was herer I dropped it off at Bulls, which it sat for sometime, till a local move it to Whanganui were it then sat for a very long time till I moved it to the Waikato area. So where to now, funny thing happen then as I found myself on the Pahiatua track and having a ball, nice bit of road that. I then turned off to Balance Bridge and was thinking to tag that, but the road and weather was too good to stop now, so onwards I went. Fuel light came on just out of Woodville so Dannevirke was next stop. I looked at the time, bugger need to get home to pick the kids up, so fuel, photo then off home, via some wicked back roads behind Woodville to the saddle road, and time for more fast fun oh yeah that road rocks too. A quick stop at Cowboyz house to see what new bike his was looking at replacing the old 9. (new toyz on the way me think) Home was next and to a end of the best day so far this winter on the bike.:scooter: I am so looking forward to Summer:sunny::Punk::done:
