Thought it might be a good idea...

Here is the first review

The Man from Earth...

This movie is to me a thought provoking piece of work, it was written by Jerome Bixby who also wrote episodes for The Twighlight Zone and Star Trek. It revolves around John who claims to be 14,000 years old who continually up and moves every ten years or so. Well on this particular move his friends decide to throw a small good bye party and John starts telling his story...
The movie is high on dialouge and low on action, but the good thing about it is the way the characters keep you wanting more.

:niceone::niceone::niceone::niceone:
I give this movie 4thumbs...

Boondock Saints 2: All Saints Day

8/10
If you havent seen the first, go and do so, it gets a 9.5. Second is very similar, lots of action, good storyline, though being a sequel its a lot more predictable.

Green Zone - Doesn't really have much to stir the imagination. Pretty formulaic really. Nothing Bourney about it other than the quick flicking of the camera between shots... it's supposed to have political intrigue, but misses by a mile... A completely transparent movie, there are no "characters" to speak of... and all in all, it's pretty shit.

4/10

Inglorious Basterds - 9/10

Pulp Fiction meets WWII

Brilliant story, fantastic characters especially the German SS detective (think he got an oscar) and a brilliant twist on what has been a subject over done so many times. Mike Myers popping up as a tally-ho British officer is classic.

Seen it twice, love it. Even Brad Pitt does well

Rise of the Foot Soldier
9.5/10
The story of Carlton Leach, ex ICF member who went on to become one of the top boys in the Essex underworld. Revolves around the murders in Rattenden in Essex where 3 big names in the Essesx mafia were gubbed down by persons unknown.

A gritty film, well acted and true to life, has some good shagging in it as well

The Damned United
10/10
The story of Brian Clough's 40 days in charge of Leeds United. Great fun, true to life and a good laugh. Displays Cloughie as the bastard of a manager he was. The best manager England never had. Anyone who knows anything about Cloughie and his legacy will love it. Even has the Bremner v Keegan punch up in the Charity Shield.

Enjoyed best with 12 beers, a block of Colby and a jar of pickled onions. Send the missus to the bing as well, she'll only ruin it...

Beats me how much people hate this movie, sure its stupid, as stupid as the rest of the crap out there, as far as cavemen, mammoths, and Pyramids go its pretty damn good entertainment. Next people will be pulling apart the Conan movies. Would have benefited from more skank.

Slightly over-rated movie. Think "remake of dawn of the dead" and you are not far from it. Not Tarantino's best work.

Just watched "It might get loud". Not exactly a movie, more of a doco, but bloody entertaining. It's basically a chat with 3 guitar players from 3 different generations, Jimmy Page, The Edge and Jack White. Wicked how passionate they all are about music (now THAT is hot), loads of good music and just interesting. Worth a watch.

The Hurt Locker.

It is a story, but not an Academy Award winning masterpiece as some say. Not impressed with the hype of the movie even though what they are portraying has been a vital part of the Iraqi insurgent issue and deserves more attention. Luckily the Iraqis are setting up their own teams to do the same work. Adrenaline junkies from them - who knows? I doubt it though.

Chuckled at the brit team leader's comments on their captives, as they were escaping...

6/10 and being generous.

Have you ever seen the phosphorescence that glows when you stir sea water with a stick? Same thing as grass that lights up when disturbed...

It's set on a different planet. I'd throw the movie an 8/10. I saw it in 3D, then 2D... Yes the story has been a little Americanised and as per usual the humans are fucking things up... but the story isn't that unrealistic and neither are the "oddities" in it... each to their own I guess... I reckon Avatar has more common day truisms than most movies...

went to see clash of the titans in 3d. shelled out 18.50 for a ticket.
wore the 3d glasses that hurt your face.
its not really "action packed". its more a movie for fudge packers. the final action scene showdown takes 5 mins, so don't blink.
the guy from avatar makes a slightly better demigod hero than "orlando bloom" in kingdom of heaven. but only just.....
I think orlando forgot he wasn't filming "brokeback mountain", which absolutely should have starred him, from what i hear, (i havent seen it).
noway is clash better than the original. i like all the old school mythology movies.
nope, once you have seen brad pitts demigod character "archilles" in troy, you realise it will be a long time before anyone can beat that.

Alice in Wonderland was so disastrously bad it will probably become a cult movie.

Pretty sure the ones mentioned below are available on youtube, but if not, they are on bittorrent.
If you want to see a true cinematographic eyecandy, download a short cartoon called contact or kontakt from bittorrent. Credits are in russian but you can safely ignore them. 11/10.
If you want some giggles, download a short animation called latex (NWS). Probably not suitable for little kids, but funny as hell. Unrated.
For a really trippy classic cartoon, get "the mystery of the third planet". I do not thing there is a professional translation, but subtitles are decent. This movie cannot be described - it has to be seen 11/10.

Pretty much agree with you. Needed to be grittier and a little more serious. Damn Scarlett looked fine. She made Gwyneth look a little over the hill.

Pretty much agree too, would give it probably a 6.5 to possibly a 7 at a stretch. Maybe a 7 coz of all the mint cars and Scarlett was mega hot!

Agreed about Scarlett and Gwyneth, it might have made it a more interesting movie if it were darker and grittier as mentioned but the lack of seriousness of the main character was part of the charm of the first movie, meh, whatever. It was a perfectly fine way to kill a couple of hours anyway.

Iron Man 2: Not overly impressed... pretty much lost the whole feel of the first movie, much as too many sequels do... to that end only 6/10... Mickey Rourke turned in a decent performance, although his character was under utilised... this coulda been a much darker movie had they chosen to actually think about the plot...

Well I thought it was pretty damn good, could use a bit more action though. Up there in sequel-awesomeness with Boondock saints two, and transformers two, to name some recent ones

Gran Torino - boring, predictable, over-acted. But cool car and over-all feel-good type movie. 6/10

Iron Man 2 - shoot me next time ACDC do the whole sound track for a movie. This movie had no ambience unlike the first. However it was not bad - and the acting was surprisingly good. Plot was what you expect - which is actually good in this instance. 7/10

Avatar 3D - cool effects (look up MASSIVE Software by the way), fail everywhere else. 6/10

We need the following into movies:
"Hiroshima" - John Hersey
"Quake movie"
"Atlas Shrugged" - Ayn Rand
"Bioshock movie"
"Rowan of Rin" - Emily Rodda (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emily_Rodda). (for the kids)

Kick-Ass - Violent, funny, entertaining. The wife and I both enjoyed it.

Gran Torino - I rate this movie. Finally convinced the wife to watch it, she hates Clint Eastwood, but she thought it was one of the best movies she's seen recently and is happily recommending it to everyone she knows.

Robin Hood - (the new one with Russel Crowe). Thought it was pretty good until about the last 20 minutes. Like a lot of Ridley Scott films I'm guessing the director's cut will be better than the theatrical release.

Three things may suprise you:
*If you are not a big rugby fan, you'll see rugby differently after the movie.
*If you are a big rugby fan, you will not wait for the 2011 Rugby World cup.
*...and at the end, you will be gob smacked to find that Clint Eastwood was the director and the producer of the film.

The "special" is gob-smackingly horrendous, the review is hilarious.

also watched last night while son's computer was linked up to the tv his download of nostagia critics review of some mindbogglingly bad movie called "The Room" written produced and starring some gutwrenchingly dreadful man. But again, the review itself was so funny I nearly peed several times.

You might not want to read this.....

I think the chic thinks she is inherently evil, as she let her kid fall out the window and die because she was in the middle of an orgasm

So sex is a way out but makes her feel guilt too...

Apart from all the close up sex and the chic franticly going at herself in the forest the worst bits start when she is attacking him, trying to have sex (a common theme) and she flips out and grabs a massive bit of wood and smashes his dick with it, he is knocked out cold then she proceeds to beat him off and he comes blood.

She then drills a hole in his leg and puts a big weight in it so he cant leave her

Later on he wont kill her so she cuts her clitoris off with a pair of scissors (of which you get a lovely close up) and he strangles her in the end

If you can get past the brutality at the end (most of it isn't that bad if you don't mind a bit of sex) its a kinda interesting portrayal of chaos and order and the male/female roles in it

well, watched Dim Sum Funeral this afternoon...It is one of those soppy movies that makes you feel all good inside....basically is the story of an americanised Chinese family who have to organise a traditional funeral for their mum...The family is disfunctional to start off with and by the end of the movie is very much together....

4.5 out of 5 for the feel good factor....worth a look

Resident Evil: Afterlife

If Sir Issac Newton was alive, he would be one angry son of a bitch.
This is one of those action movies quite enjoyable to watch without logic or brain (the first 20 minutes). Plus, not knowing the actual game's story will improve enjoyment by 500%. Since I know the game's story in detail (big Resident Evil fan, played 2, 3, and 5), I was disappointed in so many levels (characters and heros).

Apart from that, not THAT bad movie. Could have been worse.

The Last Airbender.

Taken off of the anime cartoon of the same name. Most will not have heard anything about this storyline and this movie is only "book 1" of the series.
The four elements of air, water, earth and fire can be manipulated by trained individuals but only one can manipulate all four. His name is Aang.

Surprisingly, I quite enjoyed this 3D forray into the cinema.

Me and my whole Family *LOVE* the cartoon, and know it very (perhaps too) well.

My Daughter went to the movie and came back wanting to murder M Night Shwhatisname. She said she nearly walked out of it.

(I took my Wife to it, but knowing it for years and years by it's T.V. series name I made a little error with the on-line booking process. Didn't notice until we'd sat down and it started - and a spaceship went past.)

Same. The new family are really into it and also made the same comments. Obviously it varies from the original but, as I'm a noob, the storyline wasn't too onerous!

After having seen The Fifth Element I didn't think it could actually happen - ever, but Claire IS hotter than Alice!

The film does raise some important questions such as:
Ok, there was a lot of water, but how did they stop all the water from evaporating in the shower scene?
and
Who would win a battle between Alice and Ripley?

really? I thought it wasn't bad for what it was: much better than the rollerball remake for example. Ian McShane and Statham lifted it above the tedious, and the splosions and deaths were good.

THE AMERICAN is good. Serious George is serious (think SYRIANA, MICHAEL CLAYTON, not O BROTHER, or THE MEN WHO STARE AT GOATS).

One or two genuinely unexpected plot twists, a very naked and very bust Italian starlet (what is it about Italian women???) and some genuine tension.

Very worthwhile.

check out LITTLE FOCKERS: Its got Robert DeNiro and a bunch of A and B listers, and its at 10% !!

Ive done fuck all but watch movies this holidays. Seen THE PRINCESS BRIDE (which I liked a lot) and PITCH BLACK and CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK (both barely watchable, particularly in light of the Mark Vincent/Vin Diesel (Vin Diesel? really? thats your stage name? Vin fucking Diesel?)

also GET SMART (I'll watch anything with Anne Hathaway pretty much) which was a bit lame but watchable enough. I had had a couple of beers too which made it better-er.

ALICE IN WONDERLAND. I didnt attend at the movies thinking it would be lame. It isn't. It is in fact really good.

PULP FICTION. Probably my favourite movie of all.

STAR TREK 2: THE WRATH OF KHAN. Definitely my favourite original crew movie. (well its a tossup between this and ST6:TUC)

Agree entirely. I'm not a huge fan of the genre, though I am a fan of George Romero (DAWN OF THE DEAD is one of my favourites of all time, and every time I go to a shopping mall I think of that film).

Yes, another Liam Neeson film.

Quite powerful, merciless and savage action packed thriller. No dramatic or deep heart touching stuff. This is simple, pure "what-you-see-what-you-get" savage blunt force trauma. But be warned, the movie ends like BOOM.

I'm very suprised how Liam Neeson has gone from cognac-drinking-gentleman (Shindler's List) to Bourne-Identity-isque action hero. Considering his age, he executed very well.

Much impressed. 8.0/10 but I'll give extra 0.5 for Liam Neeson.
