21st October 2010, 20:47
I think it was Cruza, followed by Mr hornet who overtook me (i slowed down and let you pass me :not:) on the way back to Chch and Cruza almost tamed a Mother duck and her young ones, Cruza then braked quite hard, with mr hornet just behind him.
I think it was you two
Yep . just had time for controlled brake and swerve, great having confidence in riding buddy following thru , otherwise probably few ducklings short about now by taking easy route.
Mustn't have been my night , had cat in halswell road run out in front of me , stop, then start leaping in air after moths...........bugger the approaching bike lol .

enjoyed the ride last night - mrs leopardskin did too - her first ride on the back on ninja - another bonus was the vastly improved mileage with wifey on the back - how does that work??
Less drag.
Hey wait for me!
21st October 2010, 21:01
Well it was definitely the night for losing things, I had my back pack on and had changed my visors for the ride home in the dark and got home to find my bag had come open.. goodbye $60 black tinted visor!! @#$#@ so if anyone happens to come upon it between litte river and St Asaph St! aside from that, great ride!!

I thought that cat was having a fit in the middle of the road, darting all over the place.....

Nah, your alright man. Just was an interesting moment there on the way home. Sounds like most people had a weird moment or two, cats spazzing on the road, ducks crossing, missing wives, visors, wallets and 2 people coming off bikes at low speeds.
All I can say is, bring on next week. :woohoo:

Let me know if this looks right, I have just had a big glass of Wiskey and well, it was a very big glass.
This is a great open road ride for beginners, it is a mix of motorway and 'B' roads. If you have any concerns about riding back into town at night, just let us know we can put you into a pod of riders heading back into town after dinner at the cafe.

I won't be along next week, have a fashion show prep to do, me being the model, this could be interesting! So have a great and safe ride guy!
I know who I can  ... and whom can't ... :gob:
No questions yet ...from the person concerned yet ... as to what damage was done. Apologies at the time ... but within an hour ... stated, it wasn't his fault ???

Could you call the Greta and give them a warning about what is heading their way?

Stopped at two spots but no luck . limited with time and 3yr old , to have serous look.
Leave it to rumgirl To show off her bike. Probably at burgerking wed and a quiet local ride this week for us, before group thing. few minor things to do on it first . been parked in garage 99% of its 3year life . Will be fully sorted by next week.
Sorry thanks donna , needed extra set of hands to get it off the trailer safely:sunny: . be lucky if ya get a ride I'd say , be her new baby.
So if ya do know what it is, don't spill the beans aye . sent rummie pics and she is super excited.

3yrs old eh, sounds like you got a great deal considering the vintage you were looking at. You could take a pic of one little bit of it so that we can start guessing and speculating, a bit like tagorama.
Took the youngest lad up to lake Lyndon for a trip today, was awesome watching all the bikes heading off to the coast, sadly one cb thou was not among them :violin: The friendly aforementioned constabulary :Police: was also cruising up and down the highway, so if you haven't left yet keep your eyes peeled :scooter: between Sheffield and Porters Pass.

I can see a bit of idling along behind for me with the boy when he gets out on his bike, I might have to play TEC with the L platers for a while when he gets up to speed enough to come along on a WNR. I guess you do what you have to in order to get them out riding.

another casualty to the attendance of the ride
and for the next for weeks min i think.
my little motor cross event last week was a bit more than expected.
bikes OK, a bent hand brake lever, bent handle bars and a bent rear signal light stalk,
all fixable with spares in the shed,
but ,, fuck, bugger, damb, curse, and all those other words
When the bike landed on me, it broke my arm....
Didn't notice on the ride home, but Thurs morning, well, a tad swollen,
rather painful, went to Doc, = xray, = fuck! BROKE!
Just remember slow speed falls off of " push bikes" into road works can do more damage than you think, well thats what I told the doctor. And ACC.
So thats twice, in 6 mths, the same arm.....
have fun guys
and watch out for grass, its more dangerous than tarmac!

Was a good ride once on the scargill road, that Hyosung was humming:yes:
I've deliberate on posting this but.... I got a tad brassed off by one young "hotshot" who seemed desperate to get in front of me on two seperate occasions, causing me to have to brake hard on the second where they overtook into oncoming traffic and pulled in braking directly in front of me. After all that, they then cornered like a stuck pig along the scargill road so ended up overtaking them anyway.:finger:
I realise that everyone had the right to participate in the ride, but that behaviour doesn't make sense to me. If you get your jollies from passing people in a straight line then try drag racing. Cornering is where motorcycling is at, and I suggest not bothering trying to get to the front of the group if you're no good at it. I also suggest not trying to put other peoples lives at risk or this will result :spanking:

I also suggest not trying to put other peoples lives at risk or this will result :spanking:

Was a good ride once on the scargill road, that Hyosung was humming:yes:
I've deliberate on posting this but.... I got a tad brassed off by one young "hotshot" who seemed desperate to get in front of me on two seperate occasions, causing me to have to brake hard on the second where they overtook into oncoming traffic and pulled in braking directly in front of me. After all that, they then cornered like a stuck pig along the scargill road so ended up overtaking them anyway.:finger:

A friend of mine has left a Yamaha XJ750 in my garage with keys, granted I do ride it up and down the drive  to maintain the battery, thankfully I have my wee 250 that I can ride legally but have booked the Defensive driving course to get my full down to 3 months, which means I could potentially sit my full in Dec, just before the KB Rally!

It's not a WNR rule, it is actually illegal to do it (pass on the left within the same lane).
Quote from The Official New Zealand Road Code for Motorcyclists (http://nzta.govt.nz/resources/roadcode/motorcycle-road-code/about-riding/passing.html)
You can only pass on the left when:
* there are two or more lanes on your side of the centre line and you are able to pass safely by using the left-hand lane, or
* the vehicle you are passing:
- has stopped, or
- is signalling a right turn, or
- is turning right, or
* you are directed to by a police officer.
At all other times, when you are passing, you must pass on the right.

Rather than YOU vent your frustration here, just why don't you just talk to him.

I vented weeks ago and by doing it here I'd hope it would be seen by other people who may also be doing it.
Seeing it all rise up again I was simply stating a fact that it's law rather than a particular WNR rule as you suggested and quoting you just gave my post some context. I'm sorry that seems to have offended you.
Unfortunately my facial recognition is not great and I didn't fully identify the bike either but ifI was able to identify the rider in question at the destination i would have spoken to him/her directly as well as posting here as I want to fix everyone, not just one at a time.

Oh well GP, gives people a choice. Personally I enjoy the riding most on WNR so the longer twistier ride suits me.
People will have a choice on which way to go which is always a good thing and a staggered arrival at the pub will save the queues ( except far queue).

Yep, with all this dissention in the ranks, I might just give it a miss and take the trail bike out for a ride instead.
That and the fact that the duc will probably be still naked in the garage
Hey Neels, If you're up for a jaunt this weekend 'round the waimak (or anywhere else for that matter) I'll be keen, need to try out my new 'Im not as hard as I used to be' settings and adjustments on the DR ...
Anyone else keen?

As long as I get away from work early enough, I will add to the number choosing this route... see the rest of you at the Tai Tapu Pub :D

As a relative newcomer to the WNR and possibly at risk of being flamed for this post, could I please put in a request to those leading either or any group:
1) Make yourself known to new people - we have no idea what you look like from your avatar.
2) In general, I and some others think that far too much time is being wasted at the BK carpark. If we are having a group ride at 6:00pm, why can't we move off at say 6:15 instead of hanging around the carpark until after 6:30pm?

why can't we move off at say 6:15 instead of hanging around the carpark until after 6:30pm?
Because most wednesdays you'd be gone before I got there :killingme
There is no compulsion to turn up at 6:00, the ride is advertised as meeting then and leaving at 6:30, so if you want to roll in at 6:25 and avoid the hanging around fair enough. Some of us like to catch up with people and drool at the new bikes for a while before we ride, some don't.
If you want to know who's leading a ride ask anyone that's there, they won't bite and most people are happy to meet new wednesday night riders, and someone should be able to point you in the direction of the person you're looking for.

On point two some folks come from outside of the city, Rangiora, Kaiapoi those places, the 6:30 start gives them time to get there, just as an aside this ride has been running a few years now, experience has shown these times work.
On point one there used to be a rider briefing, everyone gathered around and it was easy to work out who was leading which ride etc, I take it this is not being done now? I cant make it often now days as working situation has altered so I am a little at a loss as to why you are having trouble identifying the leaders.
As to getting to know the folks, wander around say hi and don't like some sit on your bike, in the corner or away from the group then complain that no one interacted with you as has happened in the past. These folks are unlikely to bite, its not just up to them to meet you.

The Wednesday night ride time of arriving at 6 but leaving at 6.30 gives people the choice to come earlier to catch up with friends, check out bikes and meet new people, and also gives people a choice whether to turn up early or turn up at 6.25 if they like. Without fail before we leave the car park we always brief in a group where we are going, where the stops are along the way and who is leading and who is tail end charlie. It can be hard to find out who is who if you can't see their face on their avatar but the best way is to introduce yourself to another rider that night. Each night there is a mixture of who turns up to ride but socialising at the pub with other riders is the best way to find out. We always try and cater for experienced riders to beginners. New people don't be afraid to ask on this thread also. We have a great bunch of people and are always willing to help out in anyway we can. There are a number of routes we ride and not every route suits everyone. We tend to stick to about 6-8 different routes and as seasons and earthquakes change so do the conditions. Some loving the twisties and some the gentle riding and the straights, its hard to please all the people all the time. We are open to new routes and don't be afraid to suggest a route on this thread. I hope Jmemonics reply and this one helps answer some questions

On point 1, like everyone has said, just jump in and say Hi, we don't bite that much, it can also depend on the amount of bikers we have, sometimes there isn't time to get round and meet everyone, the pub is a good way to get to meet everyone!
On point 2, as the others have said, you don't have to turn up till 6.25pm or not at all and just meet us at the destination. It's up to you what you want to do!
Looking forward to meeting you!

The ride was really good, I don't know how you other lot could handle cutting the ride in half like you did. Even if it did make it more enjoyable having less people on the ride.
Went home via Gebbies in Dyers. With a fogged up visor, fogged up glasses, in the fog, with a smokey car in front of me. Thought my bike was smoking until I spotted the lights ahead in the mist. Might be time to investigate some eyewear that doesn't fog.

I do not think the fella who was on the 600 or 636 posts on here, but if he does then 'my bad' for running wide on one of the corners heading up dyers pass (in Cashmere area), I assume he/you were trying to pass me on the corner? on the outside of me that is, none of that undertaking rubbish.
Just going past the lytelton tunnel some copper pulled out in front of me and the fella from oxford on the cb1000 or cb1300, so was forced to follow him at 50k's for the early part of the bays and got well left behind.
I was hauling ass to catch up once he pulled over, but could not :bye:
most might have seen me revving my bikes tits off on the way to purau, (still thought i'd be able to catch up with gloplg and the rest of the summit road crew) and did not notice them coming towards me from purau, so got there and the fella on the big honda caught up and he and myself just went back to Chch from purau.
Was a great ride up on the summit road though, was awesome being above the cloud line/sea mist or whatever that was. Some pretty mint views

Peeteey - sorry for not stopping at the Teddington side of Gebbies. Thought you were just messing with your camera, obviously something else was up?
No worries, nothing too major, just my front brakes exploding! 223169
Just after turning towards the hills at the Weacheaf, doing about 100km, felt a little jolt, saw something (my brake tube-thing it turns out) flying past my head at speed spewing liquid! Gingerly touched the front brakes to find a limp lever. Thanked my lucky stars it wasn't my wheel flying off!
In the attached pic, there should be two tubes coming out the top. The one still there is the input from the reservoir, the missing one goes up from the little stump on the right, over the top of the wheel (between it and the mud guard) to the brakes on the other side. That over-the-top tube is what came off.
Seems the tyre caught it and ripped it off in a frontwards motion. It's sheared off cleanly on both sides at the little stump bit so hopefully will be an easy fix for the shop tomorrow!
Sam, green Ninja 250 up from Queenstown, stopped and followed me home. Pottered along at about 40k, remembering that the front brake does 90% of all your braking and that the rear brake on the bmw is bad at best.
The real bugger is both Sam and I make vids for Youtube and neither of us had our cameras running! Buggery bollocks! I always miss the good shit! :violin:
All in all, nothing major, had a good giggle about it

re: peeteey's brakes
I had the R6 clipping 240 at the end of the ruapuna straight when I thought my front brakes had failed, I went to start braking but it felt like there was nothing there, much like what you would've felt.
So I used the rear to chop the bike down from 240 to like 90 for the first corner haha.
I checked out my brakes on the back straight and they were sweet again, I looked them over and talked to a few guys and it cant have been brake fade, sure they were hot but they came back almost straight away, I think what happened it my hand slipped and didnt pull back hard enough....scared the shit out of me though lol

My reason for mentioning is that last year I was the one that released the kraken known as tags and got in trouble for it, and I'm sure to many came across as a self obsessed cock since most of them were self referential. Thus I wanted to play it safe and clear my name.

Would have been a starter B. You must realize that often there is quite a time lag between posting your message and the time the message appears on KB. The upshot is that potential riders won't be aware of your intentions until hours or mins after you have departed.
It was so f*cken perfect today that anyone not taking advantage of the conditions, unless constrained by family or other commitments, must be considered a total fwit. :)

Sorry for the confusion on the way back CJ I was heading back on Old West Coast road so was going via taitapu.

...bike shops are? ... looking for some stores that have some sweet bikes to drool over and also somewhere to get my bike serviced
Can't vouch for any of these as I do all my own servicing...Use google to get the exact address or map.
Norjo in Main South road (Kwackers)
Superior Motorcycles in Cashel St
Just Motorcycles in Hawke St, New Brighton - generic bike servicing and theres all sorts of used bikes in there - quite a treasure trove :) .
Most of the other brand dealers are all at the bottom end of Manchester St, just past Pak'n'Save except Hampton Honda in Hornby and Avon Suzuki off Sockburn roundabout.

Just motorcycles in New Brighton are good. Hawke Street
Trevor Pierce Yamaha. Ferry Road
honda shop. Manchester Street
Sportszone Suzuki. Manchester Street
Street and Sport. Manchester Street
Norjo's on Main South Road (I dont recommend these guys though)
Emoto. St Asaph Street
there are more too, but that's all I can think of at the moment

Sunset tonight is 8.37pm so there will be usable light until about 9.00pm, two and a half hours should be enough time to do BK to Akaroa and back to Little River with most people off the hills before dark.
Those of our number that don't want to tackle the hills can stop at Little River and keep the bar warm for the others.

See you tonight ... no hills for the two old girls so keeping seats warm sounds like a plan.
