Is that because of no pack rack or no bag or because you don't want to use either?

Hmmm decisions! Becca and I took a Triumph Tiger 1050 for a spin on the weekend, and boy was it nice! Might even be good enough to have me trading in the zx6r.... as we all know 600 sportbike + distance riding = "now why did I think that was a good idea?"

Nevermind the lack of luggage or the fact the better half refuses to even contemplate pillion.

On the plus side however the ZX6R performed amazingly well at the ART day yesterday! Wooo 200km/h!! :woohoo:

Keep it to the track..................

Seems everyone is...a bit of effort has gone into it but no hardship, alot of pm'ing about different stuff and its all fallin' into place, hence the time frame given from the outset of eleven weeks.
All thanks has to go everyone who is attending, it wouldn't be a happening thing otherwise.

I have pm'ed Harris Ang asking if he is still on pending licence etc...

I did some riding today. My daily commute.

I also did a tiny bit of falling. Watch out for those green bits for cyclists at the front of the lights. Combine that with a wet day and a pool of oil I hadn't seen and it only took a tiny bit of throttle for the rear to spin out on me from a standing start. I had the bike leaned over, stationery, on to my right leg and just couldn't hold it. Dropped it about a foot from the ground. Bent the brake lever and cracked the indicator (and one or two really tiny scratches). As for me, my upper right arm and hand are a little saw but that's about it.:

Some shorts, jandals, t'shirt, jumper, undies/toiletries, bottle of water, rain gear and whatever motorbike gear you are going to be wearing on the ride. Maybe a pair of draggin jeans or similar if you have some and that should see you fairly well right.

Worse thing I find on a long ride is dehydration and dry skin/lips (Chapstick is the bomb).

Nah, too much stuff. Visa card, lighter and a pack of smokes

The biggest damage of all was to my ego. Bit of a wake-up call to us "experienced" bikers. Even a seemingly harmless standing start can go horribly wrong if we're not careful,

The arm should be good as new in a few days, just a bit of muscle soreness, no real lasting damage. Not even a bruise (but then It takes a lot to make me bruise, my capillaries seem to be almost indestructable).

Carcinoid syndrome:
a symptom complex associated with carcinoid tumors, marked by attacks of cyanotic flushing of the skin and watery diarrhea, bronchoconstrictive attacks, sudden drops in blood pressure, edema, and ascites. Symptoms are caused by tumor secretion of serotonin, prostaglandins, and other biologically active substances.

The adrenal glands are approximately two and half by one inch long yellowish-orange colored glands that are found just above the kidneys. Adrenal glands provide a very important function in protecting the body against stress. This function is carried out by secretion of a number of different types of hormones by the adrenal glands.

Adrenal cortex The adrenal gland is actually two glands that are fused together into one gland. The outer part of the adrenal gland also called the adrenal cortex produces steroid hormones that are involved in regulating a number of different body functions. The adrenal cortex also produces a hormone called aldosterone that is involved in regulating the amount of salt and water in your body. Adrenal medulla The inner part of the adrenal gland is called the adrenal medulla.

The adrenal medulla produces hormones called catecholamines such as adrenaline and noradrenaline. Catecholamines play a role in the response to acute or sudden severe stress, for example during life threatening event. Catecholamines are responsible for the palpitations (racing heart), sweatiness, widening of eyes and shakiness of the hand when faced with sudden fear or other stressful situation. What are adrenal tumors Tumors of the adrenal glands arise from the cortex or the medulla part of the adrenal gland.

Adrenal tumors commonly present because symptoms from excess secretion of hormones by the tumor. The tumors from the adrenal cortex produce excess secretion of steroid hormones and aldosterone and tumors from the adrenal medulla produce excessive amounts of catecholamines. Adrenal tumors can be benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancer). Often this separation is difficult to make and long term close follow up is necessary after removal to detect recurrences early in patients who have adrenal cancer.

How do adrenal tumors present? Adrenal tumors may present in the following ways: An unsuspected tumor that is found on a CT scan performed for another reason: As CT scan evaluation of the abdomen has become widespread, an unsuspected swelling of the adrenal gland is frequently detected in many patients. These tumors should be carefully evaluated. Production of symptoms due to oversecretion of hormones from the tumor: The adrenal gland may produce distinct syndromes based on the profile of the hormones that are secreted by the tumor. Some of hormones that the tumor produces are: Steroids: Excess secretion of the steroid hormones produce a Cushing’s syndrome Aldosterone: Excess secretion of aldosterone produce a Conn’s syndrome

Catecholamines: Excess secretion of catecholamines produce a pheochromocytoma What is the treatment for adrenal tumors? Observe with no surgery: Very small tumors tumors not producing any symptoms and found by chance on CT scan can be followed with a repeat CT scan in six months, larger tumors should be removed due to the risk of an underlying cancer. It is recommended that tumors greater than four centimeters should be removed. Laparoscopic adrenalectomy:This is the treatment of choice for tumors less than 10cm. Open adrenalectomy: This is recommended only in patients where there is suspicion of cancer Laparoscopic removal of both adrenal glands: Recommended for patients with disease in both adrenal glands causing Cushing's disease or pheochromocytoma.

This what I could find, may help you understand it better!

Agree, very underated the meals.Spent 9 nights in Taranaki base in New Plymouth in Oct 03,and Wellington in June 09 for 8days,both times never had a meal that I hated, usually 2-3 choices of dish, heaps of fresh fruit, was like being in a motel with room service lol.

And a tip, always grab the oranges, you can then sqeeze the juice into your water jug to give a flavour to the water,in Wellington my partner would grab them from the guest/staff kitchen, all visitors were told to help themselves to tea, coffee from the kitchen and any food on the table,so she would grab a couple of oranges for the water jug.

Back on topic hope my prayers are helping Anne and Mark,is just as bad for Mark I bet, waiting and nothing you can do but be there,as a patient that helps.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery MOM,

On another note, the idiots that be up here in Norfland have decided to restart the roadworks from earlier in the year, this means fugging great rocks and lots of them, there is a section about 1km past the BOI motor camp (an area known as Lilly pond) as you leave Paihia after lunch watch out for it - it's about 5-6kms towards Puketone JCT. They are also redoing the Kerikeri roundabout (by the Caltex) the metal being used is large and bloody rough with sharp bits. I now have the pleasure of replacing an already new P Diablo II rear tyre with a fecking big slit in it - the thing had only covered 700 ish kms. It got me the 3 kms home but it was a struggle.
The reason I hardly used my bike to commute on over the summer was the damage being done to the tyres by the road works.

Other than that, Mom heal well and see you all in two weeks......

Yeh not gay to the calander idea as well

Morning all,

Road works are a fact of life - no matter where in the world you ride.

Learn to get over it - and then ride through them - because if you don't you won't get to many destinations!

The Kerikeri roundabout road works (beside the Caltex) aren't even on the route of this ride.

If it makes it easier I'll ride the route from Awanui to the Cape and back on the Thursday immediately before the ride and as I am hoping to meet you all at Gull Whangarei I'll do the planned route on my way down on Friday morning. So I will be as current as it is possible to be when I meet you all. Relax.

It is coming into summer and that is when most road works happen because road working machinery doesn't work very well when it is belly deep in mud.

Totally agree. Still, they do have to be treated with caution. As does any less than ideal surface.

And while we're on the subject, what ever happened to rolling the loose gravel in to the tar before letting the traffic on? Instead they let the traffic do their job for them?

What a shit sleep, Wankers next door thought it would be good to have a party (which is all good, didn't really hear them) until at 2:45am on the road at the top of there driveway and outside my house (my room is right at the front of the house) they decide it would be a fucking great idea to let off fireworks! FUCKING AWESOME

Its here for you, how can I get it you? or do you want me to bring it on the day?
I am heading for the North shore today ...Northcote rd about 1:30.

If you bring it on the day it would probably be easier, can't ride out to come get it because I hit a bloody huge slick of diesel mid corner, half tilt. Back end slid out faster than you could say "damn truckies" and now i need a new RH clip on and throttle housing. Leathers did a good job though, only a couple of worn through spots and a nice patch of raw skin on my knee where the air vent moved whilst sliding.

Here's hoping I can get the piece before the ride!!

I am home. It feels wonderful. I am once again totally impressed by the health system in this country, from the wonderful Paramedics that came to pick me up from work, to the ED staff, to the Doctors and the Nurses on the wards.

Sorry to give everyone such a fright, though if it helps I managed to scare the shit out of myself fairly well, I dont think I have ever been that worried about myself before. Paramedics are nothing short of amazing. From the first comment "dont need to ask who the patient is" to the last comment "I almost cant tell where you are, you are the same colour as your dress all over now" to the double large lines of fluid being pumped into me. Having your blood pressure in your boots like that is not very plesant at all.

Still I have survived. It will take a few weeks for the results to come through, but mean time life goes on.

Thanks for all the wonderful good wishes too, made all the difference :D

Yeah well, got to keep things interesting after all

The stay in Ward 6 was most interesting and entertaining at the same time. I got to share a room with 3 80+ women with a range of problems, not least of all confusion and deafness. It was a bit challenging at times to stay calm. I had to ring my bell each night to get a nurse to come and sort them out.

One helping the other untangle herself from the wires (drip line) she had become tangled in was a biggie one night. Once free this old girl who is not to walk unaided, got out of bed and headed for the door, stretching the drip line as she went :pinch: The other came to the end of my bed while I was snoozing and started talking. When I opened my eyes she was staring at me with her hands hovering above my bare feet. She told me she was just saying "I wonder if she will wake up if I tickle her toes" Fairly sure I not only would have woken up, but kicked out at the same time.

Glad to be at home :D

Back to work tomorrow. I have to just get on with shit really. I cant stop and wait for something else to manifest itself, sadly I dont get paid to sit at home. With any luck the results will come back with something that sticks out like dogs balls. It will be so obvious and easy to sort a quick "snip" and a few pills will sort it for good.

Positive thoughts all the way here

I have actually written a synopsis for a one act play based on my hospital stay this time. Along with my own life experiences, this is a story I want to share. It has characterisations, and many notes of behaviours I want to share. I will beef it out a bit over the next little while and see if I can get it to a pre production stage. It is called "Clinical Notes" and it is a celebration of mothers and how important they are, and how we need to appreciate them while they are vital, nuture them when they are not, and remember them with love when they are gone.

More so on lighter bikes, if you do happen to load it up and have it hanging out the back, it can feel like towing a trailer.
A loaded pack is better suited over the rear wheel/axle, not beyond it.

Oh and we are going up to the caravan this weekend.

Cool, will be good to see it. Whats the difference between the 2011 and 2012?

They improved the EFi so it not gets about 30km per litre instead of 25km per litre ad increased the strength of the fairings. The guy that sold it to me purchased one himself for racing and down it the second race. Ripped the bars in half and only cracked and scratched the fairings. So there much stronger. Oh and the changed the decals so they actually look good and not like a random design just thrown at the bike. Ill upload some more decent pics later on today.

Just go up to your highest gear and stay there. Lower rev's = less fuel :innocent:

Cant do that. THe engine is being run in so you need to cycle the gears and go through the ev. if i keep it at low revs during this period then afterwards when i want to go faster and rev the crap out of it it will throw a tantrum.

Him. Hadnt thought of that. I will give it a go. But it is a heavy bike 160kg dry weight. and i dont plan to overload it. Ill try each way on my way to paeroa today.

So anybody got a looooonnnngggg range forecast?

Yepper I do. A group of mad, keen bikers will head norf for a weekend. They are a mixed bunch. Some are not of the experienced kind, or of the need to prove anything by going super fast kind. Some really have no open road experience, some have lots. Some are on small cc engined bikes, some are on bigger engines. Some come in a car  All are up for a good time.

The weather is immaterial. It will be grey, but dry, there will be a bit of wind about, but manageable. There will be showers (there are always showers) but it will be mostly dry. It will be mild, one will find the temps too hot no matter the temp.

The company will be fantastic! The hosts wonderful, the accommodation amazing. The photo ops will be many, some will pay bribes to avoid publication of said photos

I forecast a fantastic weekend for all :sunny:

(there are always showers)
If it's anything like my last trip to the cape the rain won't metter. It went something like this:

1. Ride north - brilliant sunshine with a hint of rain in the distance
2. Pitch tent
3. Immediatly after entering tent - TORRENTIAL downpour and STRONG! winds (even blew the tent down to nothing at one point - gotta love the bounce-back feature in them domes).

That was how it went for four whole days. Although the rain eased and for half of the trip I was riding south. Oh, and sometimes west or east or north by north north west and all the other 29 points of the compass.

There was also Southern Mist...but it got taken off the market because it contained some kind of drug?
Isn't alcohol a drug?

no no no, you marinate the cherries in the alcohol and than you dip them into choclate.....its drunken cherries (or any other fruit)

we have this lovely desert dating to the 14 century, called drunk/drowned virgins (versoffene jungfern) the word versoffen can mean drunk or drowned... go figure,
but is basically fruit which layed in alcohol for some time, dipped in batter, deep fried with some cream on the side........so good, goooood

Are you coming on the ride?

If I wasn't using a loaned bike I would have loved to have been able to put my name forward, it will be a great run.

Riding is Riding in any weather.

If you are worried about weather now, might as well stay home and sell your bike :shit:

More intrested in if i take a sleeping bag or not.

And adjust the tune of my bike to the weather and to run slicks or wets.

I reckon a set of set of slicks would work a treat!! Especially over gravel

Nah wouldn't be dissing someone elses steed, thats just not on! Bikes come in all shapes and forms just like us human types. Just becuase some are not as visibly appealing doesn't make them bad.
