Hopefully I will at least make it to the meeting point so that I can just put it into a car that is driving down :msn-wink:

Took the old CBX for a WOF today, not due untill early next month but wanted to sort any problems they find first. Got real worried when all the inspectors went over her for ages.:gob:

I went over in the end and asked if there was a problem. They said no the bikes in great nick for its age and they were telling stories about old bikes. It passed. :woohoo: We went for a little celerbration ride.

Post #2 now includes the Ride Rules.
*But here they are....I will add to post #2 once some finer details have been settled on.

:Each Group Leader will control the group speed (80-100)
:There Will Be No Passing Within Each Group
:The Use Of Mirrors is Paramount in a Group Ride Situation, Please use Them…Always
:Watch Your Following Distances With The Bike In Front, That Person is Your Friend.
:Please try and stay within 5-6 bike lengths with the bike in front of you.
:Staggered Formation Where Possible (no single file on the straight bits)
:If a car is bothering you in any way, indicate left and slow (where it’s safe to do so) and wave them passed.
:But ultimately have a way cool time.

Have just read this thread from beginning to end. Gutted when I got to the middle bit and saw it had closed off due numbers. BUT, it looked a little but like maaaaybe someone pulled out since then?

What if I ride the route first and make some (mental) notes? Heading to Chch via that way on Tuesday so can check it out and make literal notes if that'd help?

What if I'm happy to pillion anyone that needs pillioninginging? Including pets. Share my tent? Pay someone off? Fix stuff? Bring lots of beer? Beg?

I feel like reading the whole thread shows I'm committed and I'm not too proud to do anything at all since it sounds like it's gonna be tons of fun.

What say you? If all that grovelling didn't work, can ya just stick me on the reserve list please? Cheers

I will explain in person how the ''revised'' corner points system will work on this ride.

Currently there is 24 with 3 possibles joining at Te Kuiti 1 maybe and 1 riding down later in the day.

Seeing as attendance is closed those people I had thought off ill let slip.

However I have a guy from work who is interested in coming. I asked him because I thought we were down one (and I'm still down a roomie). If we have a full quota, then I can tell him sorry but no.

If he can be accommodated then it would be awesome. But if not, then thats fine, i'm sure someone on here won't mind bunking with us :drinknsin

I believe your best to avoid the Kaimais (Mountain Range that seperates Tauranga from Matamata) at the moment as there was a spill of Tallow on it recently. So your best bet is down either via coromandel loop or straight down via Waipu/Paeroa.

Well you go straight, straight, straight and your there... :innocent:

A nice one is to go through Miranda and Kaiua. Only a small detour, but be carefull because on the corners through the forest area there isn't much sunlight so there is alot of moss and crap on the corners. Just go slowly through there, but it is a beautiful road!

Early 80's...Fitzgerald Glade...1am..I was chasing three sheep on foot while my then boss was herding them with his 351 Ford..
Yes I was pissed and didnt get a sheep...looking back, fuck knows what I was going to do with it if I caught one..
And no...shagging it was not an option....:shifty:
The last thing I remember ...there was a massive blaze of lights coupled with a thunderous noise entering the Glade from behind me..:gob:
Turned to look and ran like fuck!
I dived into the trees just in time as this fully laden Kenworth logging truck went by...

Be stonking along again even faster, last week (albeit only ridden like 3 times) bike was just not feeling cool at all and took me a while to figure out I just couldn't get comfortable. 5 mins adjusting each side and she's banging!

I am a bit slow at times, but thought initially with new suspension and pegs things might be alittle different doh

Okoroire rd (turn right at the Mobil in Tirau) takes you straight to the pub...we saw on car on that raod and it was heading in the other direction (saves using to much of SH 27)

I'm finding this a bit confusing myself.

Is it the intention that the first person to get to a corner stops and points the way for everyone else?

If they don't know the way, then hopefully they are followed by someone who does, thereby enabling them to point the way for everyone else?

If that is the case, how do they know when the last person has passed? Will there be a designated TEC who collects the "pointer" as they pass.

Maybe I'm just confused  (situation normal)

I am hoping that he means corners as in turning into a new road so that we don't all end up in different parts of the Waikato/BOP area. Normal travel on the road should be no different than what we did on the cape with FEC leading the way and keeping overall eye on the group with TEC following up the rear.

re-group if ultimately FEC feels that there is to bigger split happening.

It's to avoid any unintentional detours.... so if there is a gap in the group and we get to an intersection/turn off/fork in road etc, and you can't see the rider behind you - you wait until you know that the person behind you has seen which direction/turn off/route/fork in the road the group is taking so we stay together and get to the same place - believe me we have lost people by NOT doing this...

Yes Grant, turning a corner is turning into a new road from the one you are currently on, everything else is a bend.
You dont turn in a bend, you go around a bend (not to be confused with going around the bend)
One turns a ''corner''.

Are you saying you bend the bend straight so you go straight round the bend?

I've heard of bending space before but only on a theoretical level and then with a VERY large mass - somewhat larger than the average motorcycle (although Gremlin's GS might be getting close with a few more gadgets).

Ah, just clicked - "you go straight, straight and straight, and then you're there...." (bend or no bend).

Holy shit, I've just clicked that I'm gonna be one of the "old" guys on this ride :weep: Yesterday 1000km in the pissing rain and now this??? What a grim way to end the year....

My first decent crash was on my way to a 21st. Taught me never to ride in jeans and shoes, no matter how short the ride or what you're doing when you get there. Also helped teach me not to ride like a dick :tugger:......

Oh God not another Grandpa we have to puree steak for... :bleh:

Yea jeans and shoes went after my first crash too, still rode like a dick though, till my next crash.

1000km in the rain! Where on earth were you coming from?!

I do still have teeth! They are made of wood though, so perhaps pureeing my steak would help?

I said it "helped" me to learn not to ride like a dick - didn't entirely stop me either ;) Neither did the next one but I'm getting better.

And Chch to Auckland. Brrrrrrr

Bother! Like Methane-Grandpa above, i just read the thread from the very beginning, after being quite excited about this ride for several days, only to find out its full.

I don't neccessarily expect the royal exception treatment, as I realise the limits are in plave for good reasons, but if someone does have the misfortune to have to pull out, I would be most keen to join you, if I could be added to the ever-hopeful reserves list ...

Cheers

The other 2 bikes I was going to bring along dont seem to be showing any interest whatsoever.
I will consider them not interested and out, esp seeing as there are other people here and willing, and this isn't really fair to them.

I haven't ridden the road but have heard the it is very technical and should be taken by competent riders. I have no problem attempting it but not sure about any L-platers that may get a few clenching moments!

SH22...been on it once.
114k's V 73K's...size does matter on this occassion.
I am not adverse to those who want to take that road can do so on the day.
Its just a matter of splitting into two groups.
22 can be a technical road for those who have not been riding long, and thats where the time gets eaten up.

We are going to regroup in Ngaruawahia anyway.

I just drove through there on my way back from Cemtery Circuit and road was in ok condition however there was a couple of dodgey patches with no sign posting on them. But would make for a fun diversion but a long one as although only few k's etc it is windy and technical route.

I also see from Pirongia we are going through Te Awamutu then to Otorohonga is there a reason we cannot go straight through and bypass?

I will be sticking to plan A but...
We could have a 'hands up' on the morning for those who want to go that way as an alternative.
As long as there is a FEC and a TEC then all good.

Your to quick, I edited my last post.

I would love to go but unless whole group goes I would vote no as anybody going through there would have to go through at the speed of light as it is extremely windy and technical so add time on for that as well as the extra distance and fact no one knows the road. Make extremely hard for a re-group unless other groups were left waiting for ages.

Also I asked another question about Pirongia to Otorohonga via Te Awamutu instead of direct down was there a reason for that?

The reason behind that going that way was because, its not that far to Te kuiti (our lunch stop) from Pirongia our first coffee stop...which reminds me, I better see where exactly that coffee house is...
Pirongia/Te Kuiti = 46kms
Pirongia/Te Awamutu/Tekuiti = 60kms and Scott will lead the way through that part.

Actually a question for everybody - If you can please do some research on your bike if you don't know the answer to the below questions.

How many k's do you get to a tank of gas on average before your light comes on or you need to flick to reserve?

How many litres of fuel does your tank hold and how much of that is the reserve? i.e My tank on the predator is 17 litres of which the last 4 litres is reserve.

For your reference if your reserve light comes on you do not need to fuel up instantly as you will not run out of gas on majority of bikes for at least 50-60kilometres (that is kilometres not metres)

Please take the time to calculate this information as not necessarily on this trip but on any decent trip you do it can dictate where you do need to stop or if you should make the effort to fill up when you see a gas station it is a handy piece of information to have stored in your brain.

To put it into perspective my bike on average gets around 200-220 before reserve (13 litres of fuel) 210k's / 13 litres = 16.15k's per litre x 4 litres of reserve = 64.6k's I should be able to run on reserve before i am pushing my bike.

Hi Grant
All bikes after the mid 8ies have 50kmfrom light on or reserve. This is at the most economical(as listed on the sales brochure) As a rule of thumb I allow 30km. The only bike I have had with a fuel light was a BMW k75 it would run out of gas, I would suddenly do counter steering this would slop a couple of ks down the fuel line. When I gased up I could get 18.5l into an 18l tank. I think I was pushing my luck, but I never had to push the bike,I'm abit more careful this days as pushing a bike more than 10ft even down hill is not posible.

Hi Richard

I know this and you know this but a lot of people who ride on these rides do not seem to know this, so its not a bad exercise to complete to know exactly how efficient your bike is and how many k's your bike can do once you are on reserve whether you have a tap you turn, a blinking light, or a flashing fuel gauge indicator.

Becuase I know on the trip to the Cape we ended up stopping at 2 gas stations instead of 1 becuase someone all of a sudden had a blinking fuel light which in turn just wasted time for everybody.

That road was the first "long" ride I did. Doesnt seem so bad to me but I guess Im used to it.

weekend....hot pools.....wine....o goddess i need it

I have not taken holidays, YET, but I feel your pain, I have done 2 weeks of payroll, in a company with one payroll person on holiday, and one day to process what usually takes 3 days  We have had 3 days, but the pressure has been intense. Some errors have been made and the time taken investigating them and then putting them right has eaten into time available. We even managed a bit of a software problem on Wedneswday this week. Mark said to me when I got home, it had been 12 hours since he had seen me

All of the above for me thanks :sunny:

Wish me luck too you guys, am having another x-ray tomorrow, fingers crossed for a good result :buggerd:

Searching for another Tail End Charlie to take over from time to time?
All TEC's and FEC's will play swap a job to suit.
There are currently FOUR FEC's

My dad, if there's still room on the ride? He got his cast off yesterday morning, the minute he got home he was out on the bike lol. That seemed to go ok so he should be sweet providing he doesn't do anything silly in the meantime, and I know he would be in heaven on a nice long ride like this :niceone:

Hi Maha, I would be happy to take on a TEC role if required, I carry a reasonable first aid kit as well

Thanks Virgil, as above mate, jump on in..
I encourage the FEC's and TEC's to swap at each stop, giving the brain a rest and it will allow you to enjoy the ride without having to use too much of the top two inches..:msn-wink:

I went down 22 for the first time since at least last year on Wednesday. It's certainly in better condition than some previous times, but mostly it's unchanged. One corner proved interesting with loose gravel all over the road as I'm about to enter it (left hander), and as I was happy dealing with it, there's a bush hanging right across into the road around the blind corner, blocking half of my lane. Interesting times. Agree it's not a fun road for learners.

btw, Phreak, if you're reading this, have you got a useful contact at council I could email re bush and gravel? Got the GPS co-ordinates and wouldn't mind passing onto council.

Do you mean Karaka Road/Paerata Road...? My internet is slow as buggery at the moment so my maps aren't loading very fast.
I don't really have any contacts within the greater Auckland area councils if this is indeed the road you're talking about, but I could definitely ask the boss man from up those ways if he knows anyone to get in touch with for ya? PM me the GPS details and I'll have a look see...
