*The meaning of regroup.
...is to stop and regroup. Not take gear off and light up a smoke.

RIDE RULES
: Each Group Leader will control the group speed (80-100)
:There Will Be No Passing Within Each Group
:The Use Of Mirrors is Paramount in a Group Ride Situation, Please use Them…Always
:Watch Your Following Distances With The Bike In Front, That Person is Your Friend.
:Please try and stay within 5-6 bike lengths with the bike in front of you.
:Staggered Formation Where Possible (no single file on the straight bits)
:If a car is bothering you in any way, indicate left and slow (where it’s safe to do so) and wave them passed.
:But ultimately have a way cool time.

**On a couple of occassions, I will be looking for the group to ride as one like we did on the way back from Kaikohe.
That worked well...some can then go on ahead etc.
I will explain in person how the ''revised'' corner points system will work on this ride.

There are different types of units/cabins/bunk rooms/tent areas..all different prices.
Some with bathrooms some without etc.
Its best if each can arrange thier own accomm for this trip at the Camp Ground in Taupo.
The eating place is communal as per photos in post 1.
Last time we stayed there we had three to a unit and used the camp showers.

Yes but like the Cape ride, some dropped out for what ever reasons so spots were opened up for others which, in the end, worked out well.
So Dougal, if you want to add a couple more, thats ok by me.
I like to know those on any ride I organise and I trust your judgement.

I can possibly arrange someone to come down who doesn't ride who can bring my car along for the trip, so that we have vehicle back up for the trip away.

Probably won't be in, as following weekend is Paeroa, got marshalling there, and the following one after that is the TT2000 in the South Island, so I'll be sorting work and things...

Still (for LankyBastard) Taupo is less than 3 hours from (east) Auckland, so maybe I'll help him down (down all the gravel roads of course ) then pop back up... we'll see as the time draws nearer...

Did a lot of work a while ago getting all the 24hr stations updated so it flowed through to the NZ open source maps.

Last time I was there, I thought it might have closed down... or was it just unexpectedly closed (at a reasonable hour, I swear). Not sure, perhaps don't count on it if you don't need to... haven't been through there for a good year or so, but it's really nice riding. Just don't go into Pureora Forest... I haven't even finished tracking all the gravel roads in there

That's a shame Alan, but hey i'm sure we'll see you on the next one :) Sweet...less then 3 hours...wait...your speed or 250 speed??

Finally fully figured out what happened in waipu. My ill fated attempts at a hotwiring demonstration DID result in me shorting out the electrics making the fuse go pop.

Bluerider, you have to connect the red and brown wires.
Connect the red and black wires like I did .......

 :brick:

The same thing happened at work last night (no, not the hotwiring, the bike not starting up) This morning I stripped the bike at (with a little help) finally figured out the fuse I put in at maha/moms was cheaply made and was only giving intermittent connection. A close look at the circuit diagram afterwards showed me why the bike didn't go after I connected wires that shouldn't have been connected up north.

...and this is the sort of thing I was talking about earlier...Mark Waters did the same thing or the Cape ride and was big help in other aspects of the ride. As when the lads walked the Anna home in the wee hours, just showed me and others that its all worth the effort when everyone does thier bit.

:clap::niceone:

here here! nice feeling of family when everyone is watching out for others whether it be checking roads, special toilet stops, encouraging those who a bit shy on the road and escorting wee females in the dark. it's brilliant stuff! i dont get the same support from my bio family

Haha I shall save my stories for the camp fire, and I shall make an extra big smooth batch then. It sits on the tounge for just the right amount of time and then melts down the throat.

Haha it wasn't so dark with my torch, though that big bad possum seemed to like it.

Roughly 2 hours, depends on which way you go.

You can take the motorway and then it will only take you 15-20mins, but that is no fun!!

Really? you have probably stopped there before...its the BP/McDonalds truck stop thing on the southern M/Way just past the Karaka off ramp.
Similar to the one at Dairy Flat.
The Autobahn is a Cafe' next to McD's.
The ride to Taupo is approx 300 kms from there.

All (99%)bikes have a fuel gauge, it's your trip meter. Learn how far you get before the light or reserve happens. Then you have 30km before it is pushing time. Now all you have to do is the maths when you see distance signs. Regards Richard

I've been considering it since this thread was first posted, it's difficult but it's about 80/20 in favour at the moment. Will there be room to camp if we leave it till last minute I wonder, would be cool. Working on it babe x

Should be ok, it is a HUGE place, cant see it being totally booked out that weekend. Be fan-fucken-tastic to see you if you can swing it. :wari: now I am getting excited

hmm. This is going to require some finesse. I have surgery not long after this trip which means more days off work. Not to sure how happy my boss will be.

So do you just strap your tent and sleeping bag at the back of your bike?
Still unsure of how to do this.... Never been on an overnight trip with my bike before
But I'm definitely in favor of camping :drinknsin

Yup just strap it on. Photo here, http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/144243-Cape-Ride-Calendar?highlight=calender

Ive got a smaller sleeping bag now and am getting a much smaller tent so will take less room.

I don't think I've got the smallest sleeping bag or tent.... but I'm sure I can strap it on somehow...
If I loose it on the way I guess someone will just get another roomy

Hopefully I will at least make it to the meeting point so that I can just put it into a car that is driving down :msn-wink:

A good friend of mine has kindly invited me down to her families bach for the week after Xmas, down in Opotiki, I'm thinking if the weather is nice I'll take the bike down... I'm already getting restless waiting for the Taupo weekend! Lol

I dont think unless taking the kids the car would be used for trips away now. I now only put $25 gas a week into the car so I can get and drop the kids. Probably dont need such a big car now.
