Thinking about it, yes.
This ride is really the only legal way to ride anything in that area with out upsetting the land owners or breaking any laws.
Unfortunately they have had more and more problems with unregistered bikes helping themselves to the private land and using the one public road through that area since these rides started and this is causing us on street legal adventure bikes a bit of grief as we are being tarred with the same brush so to speak when it comes to seeking land access permission.

Next Event

The Suzuki Trails Lees Valley Trailride is on Fathers Day Sunday 1 September this year. Forget the lawn mowing and enjoy a day out in some genuine high country terrain. Riding over Okuku Hills and the Glenburn we will have a good shortcut available for children novice riders of 15-20k and the usual 40k plus a bit for the main course. With the terrain available this year we can put in a longer enduro option that will get the experts sweating. Just for Fathers Day there will be a very special enduro hill climb where everyone can see from the car park and I’m yet to see anyone except for myself get to the top. Definitely be worth a DB if you get to the top. Team up with your mates as it is a slow windy drive into the Valley.

Since the WR is a Regoed and WOFed legally plated adventure bike I would probably drive out to North Loburnish area and ride in from there to avoid the majority of other traffic which would probably be coming in from Oxford end being the dry way of bridges vs the Loburn ends fords.
Just chuck the mirror in my bag with the snacks when we arrive and good to go.

I will have to drive in & out...
I have the use of a trailer & the
bike only has a 9.5L tank...
Could be pushing it's range a bit..

Just home from the Lees Valley ride. ~42km laps again.
Slept latter than planned, mucked about a bit long then eventually signed on to start my first lap at mid day on the dot.
Lap 1 took me 2 hours including the silly move of trying one of the Enduro deviations again. Got an owchy thumb from that. Got up all the ups though I'm still not sure how. Last decent turned steeper and/or looser looking than the rest and my panicky front brake finger squeezed a bit much about half way down. Then I picked and dragged the bike in circles several times for the next quarter and finally sorted my shit to ride down the last quarter. I always said I was a 'red arrow' rider, the blue arrow sections are just a little too much for me.
My knees didn't like all the extra standing through that bit either.... now they hate my stairs at home.

Over all had a good ride, enjoyed the second half of the track more than the first as that's where all the mud and streams were. Muddy ditches caused me grief at the Dalethorpe forest ride, I had my head around the stuff this time and blitzed (as blitzy as i get anyway) the muddy holes and ruts this time.

Lap 2, all main route, 1 hour 15 minutes.

Next one of these I do is likely to be the Balcairn Trailride on October 5th-6th (http://www.myrides.co.nz/content.asp?syscmd=dl&ID=6D36E081D90A4E28AE774942D66C0191), it's on both days but I'll probably only do one of those.
Think Peeteey is up for to that one too.

Oh yeah, GoPro memory card was full by the time I got of the Enduro option (there were several but I only did the one... once) so missed recording most of the loop and GPS went flat sometime during the ride too. Must remember to pay more attention to preparing this stuff the day before if I want to use them on the day.

Looks like there was a bit of fun to be had there, I'm sorry I wasn't up for it but I'm back to picking and choosing, can't simply do them all.

Anyone interested in checking out the Black Ridge Park up Greta Valley (http://www.myrides.co.nz/blackridge-park-xidc100562.html) Sunday coming? (That be the 22nd). Cheaper than the usual farm type trail rides at $30 entry but only about 15km main loop. I've been interested in checking it out for a while now, heard various opinions both good and bad so want to see for myself.

J is busy all weekend so I have Saturday and Sunday to play. Might take the Transalp for a bit of a ride Saturday to see if the gas mileage has actually improved with the carby and clutch work... if it's not too wet to put me off.

But did u do all four challenge sections?
I did and fell off several times on all of them! That last one with the nasty hillclimb was tough, gave up in the end after 3tries, just too steep and slippery

No I did not do the enduros on this ride - to be fair I don't have to be on an enduro section to fall off usually :)
I heard the 4th one was very tough.
I was riding well within my limits, recovering from a sprained wrist (thanks to the slippery Dalethorpe roots).

and back home.
Greasy as out there, with a few nasty deeeeep ruts, but the weather was ok as in the drizzle came and went but I was more wet from me than the weather.
The track destroyed me in 3 places, 2 slippery hill climbs and one rut that caught me.
I really started wishing I had a couple of mates with me at one point and was lucky to rope in a couple of guys from the neighbouring property that happened by while I was resting after digging the WR out of the one deep 'must avoid' ruts that I failed to stay clear off. They were kind enough to pull me up a slippery slope I got a bit stuck on a few bends later. We used my rope so they could pull me up instead of push and catch my roost.
It wasn't over yet but I made it to firmer and/or flatter ground eventually and was toast so only did the one lap.

So when the ground is damp I'd recommend taking mates or maybe simply being more aggressive than I am, when everything is dry should be a piece of cake if a little short.

Pretty entertaining day today, met some people, lost some and caught up with others.
The laps were nice and short (I like the long ones too but today short was nice) and a bit slippery.
Only did two though, had a clean lap one, fell a couple of times on the dryer lap two, tweaked the sore thumb again so skipped a potential third lap and got home in good time for tea.

Dent
6th October 2013, 14:08
It was very warm out there today, 24 by my car thermometer at approx 1 pm.

There were some quite muddy places to keep it interesting.
By the time I did a third lap it was getting very dusty on the open parts of the track.

Some of the ruts at the bottom of hills were getting cut so deep the bikes would end up resting on the pegs.
I took one enduro option on my 2nd and 3rd laps, which while steep, was at least not rutted and muddy like the main track at that point.

Overall not a bad ride, but a bit too open for my tastes, and no real forestry.

Amberley in two weeks should I hope be good.

I bellyed the bike in a rut 2nd loop on sat , coming down hill into the first mud bog... It would have been
comeing out of the last bog 2day "sun" that would have been a shit of a climb today in reverse with
the rut so steped & muddy...

Done the 2nd loop with TA & Peteeny till we got separated early on..
It was a short loop... with a couple of stops only took around 60mins...

Nice laxed easy ride... But I to like the more tighter treey rides...

I will try for Amberley... sounds OK

Next Event Amberley Sunday 20 October
Progressing well I thought on the track clearing and then I got to the South boundary where all the trees in the bottom of a gully we ride through were tipped over. I guess there will be plenty of extreme enduro obstacles to practice on as it is easier to build a crossing over the really large trees than to cut them out. As usual there will be a number of options from ATV Novice & Children to Enduro only depending on the difficulty and the weather on the day.

Nice job on the highlights clip.
It certainly seemed wetter than the Sunday.

For a change I tried filming at 60 fps 720p on my GoPro Silver 3. The raw footage is certainly good, but the edit process to reduce to 30 fps (for YouTube, they don't do 60 fps) compromises the sound.

On lap two and three I took one enduro option, to bypass a rutted hill, which I show in my clip. I actually rode off it by mistake the first lap, and went directly up the hill, back to the main track.

I also had a slight off in a deep rut, shown at the end :)

I see where you went off the enduro track straight up the hill back on to the main track.
I got up that hill on my first lap and lost Peeteey at that point who took the enduro option after having problems with the slipperyness of the main track climb.
I'm using the GoPro HD1.
Unfortunately my gopro had a flat battery on the first lap, changed it back at the van to record lap 2.
I was using the 960p option to record this time, I think I like it, I feel it worked better than 720p with my current mounting position.
For your 60fps could you just upload the 60fps and let youtubes rerendering sort it?
I used to use the 720p/50fps (set my camera to PAL) and did my final export from Adobe Premiere with a 25fps rate, I never had any noticeable change in audio.

I'm currently using the GoPro studio s/w (free and recently upgraded to be reasonably good), then handbrake for final compression. I need to experiment with it more, and yes I will try uploading a short 60 fps clip to youtube. It was my first attempt at dealing with 60fps footage.

Had another newsletter from the Regional Park Ranger, Environment Canterbury regarding access and the tracks around the Waimak (both sides)...
*check their website (http://ecan.govt.nz/advice/recreation-and-parks/Pages/regional-park-notices.aspx)for the latest on access and things like tree fall danger and flooding...

Good Afternoon Everyone,
As you are probably all aware we have had a huge flood come down the Waimakariri River this week.
Kaiapoi Island has been closed for most of the week. I have now been able to open up between the bridges so that jet boaters and general river users can access toilets and the river itself.

So for trail bikers…….
There was little damage at the trail bike area, we have pooling water, but I will not be able to do anything with that, until next week.
Access to the trail bike area from tomorrow, will now be from Taylors road for at least the next week
Hays road has had a lot of damage, in particular under the motorway bridge. I will be getting that repaired next week, along with the rest of the road.

Please can you pass the message on to all trail bikers that the trail bike park at Kaiapoi Island is Open and access is from Taylors road

Some of the previous one where everything was closed still applies...

What has happened:
Our Forests within both the Waimakariri River Regional Park and the Ashley Rakahuri Regional Park have had a hammering. We are now in clean up mode, BUT, it is going to take a long time for us to get through the amount of work in front of us. We have about 20% of our forest windblown and now have to try harvesting these dangerous logs.

Open area:
The only place that is safe for Trail biking at present is the Kaiapoi Island Trail bike park.

Closed areas:
All trail bike tracks on the South bank of the Waimakariri River are closed. There will be dangerous trees out there on and near the trail bike tracks for some time yet. Yes this does include the Car park at Weedons-Ross Road, heading upstream or downstream. The track upstream of Weedons-Ross road has been effected by flooding over the past week and there are huge washouts on it, so it also remains Closed.

We are regularly updating our website, so have a look here regularly as it will have the most up to date information.

Its usually a good ride. I like the variety of terrain, including some forestry on the hills, with some decent elevation changes.
The forecast is 23 degrees and sunny.

In his most recent email update, Grenville says:

The arrows are going up as you read this. Amazes me how much variety of terrain we have on this one property with easy to challenging sections to cater for everyone. Good tyres are always a big help at this time of year with spring grass growth and a few wet patches, the track will be a bit slippery still.

Amberley was a great ride... combintion of balcain & dalethorp.... open padocks / forestrey / mud holes....
I had a little  half way round my first loop... high sided at about 30k comeing into a gate a tad fast... hit the brakes on grass
the rear went out to the right... grabed... then I was doing a dam good bird impression for about a second..
left sholders arn't good to land on... then a couple km on..... front wheel got in a rut on a down hill.. on the deck at about 30k again
think my sore sholder from the first one had a bit to do with it... now I was really bloody sore...
And I still had those dam 600mm high logs to get over with out being able to use my left arm for bugger all..

got back .. had a rest for a hour... went for a 2nd loop.... but took some of the kiddy sections this time...

hurts typeing this.... barely lift my arm up to use the shift key.... i'm going to pay for it 2morrow...

I was out with my son on Wednesday afternoon heading North from Weedons Ross rd and barely noticed any flood damage. Just bought my boy (12yrs) a DRZ125L big wheel, what a great bike for kids he absolutely loves it.
The weekend before we were out at the end of Haul Rd (Mcleans Island), there were lots of trees down, while he was riding around I chain sawed up 4-5 trees blocking tracks but gave up in the end, just too many of them

Ouch, I hope that recovers ok Pete. I am fairly careful with gates since I had a couple of near misses.

I had a good day at Amberley. Only a couple of offs, nothing bad.
Loved the forestry, pity about the number of open dusty paddocks but it is what it is.

I will put up some highlights once I have a chance to do the editing.

I have my Amberley Highlights video up http://youtu.be/pu-ee8ybIaA
or the same thing on Vimeo http://vimeo.com/77479240

Its a mix of my three laps of footage - you may spot the lighting changes if you look that closely. I really messed up the first log crossing as you can see - I really should know to hit them at 90 degrees.

The sound is much better with the new firmware and open GoPro case. I can hear the mud/water slopping when riding in the really wet stuff.

Our family went out to Murray Downs today for Grenville's training day. We had a great day and received lots of tips and support. Began with practice standing up on the pegs and wheel locks and stuff. Then we took to the trail, which was forestry and rolling hills with some fab views out to the coast. To my embarrassment (and my kids!) I had an audience for most of my many minties moments. But the same was true when I tackled a section that held the promise of going spectacularly wrong - the applause and thumbs up made my day!
Big thanks to Mark if you are on kiwi biker.

Sounds like a fun time had by all. You guys had a beaut day for it.

My muscles are soooo sore! The bruises are coming out. And I burnt myself on the exhaust. Then there is my poor pride - the first thing my kid did when he arrived back at school today was tell the other mothers that I canned off my bike. (Thankfully he didn't elaborate on the number of times!!)

When all is said and done, when the kids have poked all my bruises and my husband has reenacted my most undignified minties moments, I just revel in having been part of the fun.

It's not a very sophisticated word, and yet it sums up trail biking for me in just one syllable - Yay !

I heard many people say they go better on a 250. Something i might try when there's more room in the garage. A friend of mine bought the new YZ 250 FX that's a nice bike, kick start and electric plus a side stand. Hook up the YZ power tuner and change your maps to suit the day or your mood and they are nice and light. I can change maps on 450 but still heavy compared to 250

So then……I did Pigeon Bay (Last weekend) - things were going well….until I tried the last enduro section- not realising I need a trails bike…I was immediately in trouble- what the hell….second gear…slipping the Shit out of it….large rocks everywhere - all I was thinking was jarvis jarvis…jarvis….dreaming…bang….thinking to myself wonder what the hell that was…grabbed a handful of front break…no one home…over I went.

Thinking I’d torn a break line , I was surprised to find the front disc bent…..jesus….no need to panic…mmmm…..so……right…..nothing I can do…back on the bike….mental note to self…..no front brake…yeah that was going to work….I kept on pulling the leaver…..with no one home….watching the front calliper moving around I new it wasn’t pretty.

Made it back to the pits had a good look at the disc- at that stage it had stared to eat the calliper……day over.

Apart from that - it was great!

Who runs a disc guard on the front? was it just bad luck or.......I was thinking about buying:

I don't run a guard on either bike, been lucky i guess. Although i try not to do all the enduro loops except when my oldest son is with me, he makes me do them. I'm slower than some and cautious, when i have an off it tends to be at slower speeds.
That guard sure looks nice. I wondered what it was made of. With all that venting i wonder if it would bend easier than your disc. But I'm sure they know what's needed. Good luck with that, I'll watch this space for updates.

FARK $245.00 just for the disc, ouch and they wonder why they don't sell genuine parts, have you weighed the disc, they are around 500 grams, that is $490.00 per kilo, Double FARK.

Given that the disc guards are plastic they wouldn't protect much anyway.

When I think how many times my bike has ridden off without me (bastard thing) and then crashed and I haven't bent a disc so I think it is just bad luck really.

Geraldine….great ride…..always a little apprehensive arriving at a track you’re not familiar with. I started asking questions while signing in….”It’s great….goes up there….down there….and back around there”…..right I said.

Back at the vehicle, guys next to me had done it before “Fairly open….lots of undulating fire brakes, few slippers uphills…a little rocky in places….some big ruts”. Excellent…thats what I needed to hear….

Loop was around 36km….and yes ….all of the above…the slippery uphills were a little challenging in places….I had the boots flailing about trying to get some kind of traction….not carrying enough momentum at the bottom of the hill was probably the cause… had a small off….due to the large ruts hiding in the long grass….at around 3 gear- I bent my bad knee which wasn’t appreciated…..came across a guy with broken shoulder….Westpac heli etc etc……so yes…..another day full of adventure.

Conscious of being two hours out of town, with a young daughter at home, I decide to do three laps…before packing up.

Previous posts:
Front disc was outstanding…..I was really surprised….lent on it fairly hard towards the end of the day….waiting for it to start squealing…considering it was brand-new…..rock solid.

To be honest I still haven’t made my mind up, regarding the disc guard….I like the look of the low profile unit, as apposed to fully enclosed….but as “Flashg” pointed out, it looks a little light weight…what protection it would possible give, given the same circumstances could be minimal.

Who’s keen for Waipara next weekend?

It's amazing how long many people have had to wait to have their homes repaired. We were very lucky with minor damage which was repaired in September 2011. I'm sure the easy ones were done first. We had good tradesmen who did a great job.

I'm keen to get another the same as it's the most comfortable helmet I've ever owned and very light @ 1000 grams (carbon fibre)
Actually just thinking about it, i should have stayed home. I had 2 offs on lap one while riding the WR, bike and i survived that, then the Beta tried to kill me (didn't work) I'm so bruised all down one side. (Beta is also fine)

Ah yes, it was the first time in four years I didn't take my tools and it is the first time in four years I got a flat tyre, murphys law. I got home and pushed the bike in to the garage and shut the door.

The ground is still rock hard from the drought, but now has nice green grass on top + morning dew made it slippery in places, first challenging hill found many riders unable to get up (they found another way, cheats)then on to more easy going even fast in places until we came to the tree block which had a good steep hill many struggled up, after that it was all good and thoroughly enjoyable, then time for lunch, good BBQ hamburger for me then lap two which was much faster as traction was perfect. I spent the day on the Beta and had no offs, so my new helmet is still new. Looking forward to the next ride.

That is flash!!!... Whats the verdict so far?

Yes I like them, even at zero pressure the tyre stays in position and the traction is amazing, it is weird feeling to ride a flat tyre that works and doesn't roll all round and roll off the rim,

The tyre casing moulds better for the tread to work, the only thing I can put it down to is no inner tube influencing/ pushing against the side walls and the bead lock system holding the bead in place supporting the tyre.

Short answer after all that, yes I reckon they are good, I can also see fixing a flat tyre can be done without taking the wheel out which on a ride will be a big time saver.

Hi Ants, can't make it tomorrow. But i did spend the day at scargill doing the trail riding part at the Beta enduro championship round today. It was a fantastic day -2 when we got there @ 8am and stayed slippery all first lap. Had some refreshments and back out, much easier this time and far more fun. I was on the Beta and my son on the WR, he spent the day Marshalling and didn't ride as much as he hoped.

Went riding today at the Whiterock Trail Ride, 7 awesome Enduro deviations.

It was fundraiser for North Loburn School and with 671 riders the school will receive a huge boost for funding, very pleasing.

We managed todo 3 laps- all enduro deviations- but…that bloody up hill… (last photo in your post)….I tried to get up it 5 times…different laps……not happy….stuffed it up every time….had to take the cheat. Nothing worse than seeing ya mate at the top- doing the lion king thing- hands in the air- only to then attempt- and fail fail…fail….fail

During the first lap we mist the cut across the swamp….buried the front and over I went…...dam it was deep.…20min later we managed to get the bikes out and back track.
Later on that day I rode past a few guys in the same position…they also mist the turn off- buried….made me laugh!

Appreciate the effort- big thanks to the organisers.

Good post Ants, sounds like you had your work cut out for you. Looking at Pauls position on the bike going up that hill would most likely be a fail from me as well.
PS if your thinking of upgrading to something a little more powerful, test ride a 300 2t very light and easy to live with power wise. You just might like it. If you like a lower seat the Beta is lowest.

So…..decided to pop down to the Taiko trail ride….2.5hrs south of Chch.

Arrived to find the terrain consisted of open rolling hills, steep rocky inclines, small amount of forestry, with a couple of bogs for good measure. There were serval Enduro options which to be honest were a little challenging in places

The loop had a lot of potential, but was sooooo badly marked out, I found myself a little hesitant, unable to get in any type of rhythm.

Second lap was a little better- as the 250+ riders had been though…but again with the loop being so large it was hard to remember where the next marker was for reference, it was really that bad..

Third - conscience of time, we ripped around the novice loop before heading home.

I managed to case the bike attempting to jump a creak- landed on the face of the bank :brick: the bike basically stopped, but my ankles didn’t….woke up on monday morning……jesus….spent the day walking around like a cowboy.

Hey Ant's my guess is that was you that waved at us on the way home. I saw your van at the ride but didn't know it was you. I know what to look for next time.
What a great day, we did the yellow track at start, then decided Ajay would handle the main track, it was bloody tough for him but he did the whole track, impressive from a 6½ year old. We got back at about 1.30 pm got a sausage and packed up to come home. Ajay was asleep in minutes, poor wee man.
It was fun watching people giving their bikes death trying to get up all the slippery hills and falling off or just running out of traction. As you all know I'm running a tu-bliss on rear tyre and @ 3psi i just puttered up the hills (no slip) best money I've spent in years. If your thinking of trying them just do it you'll be glad you did. Without the wheel spin my tyre is going to last a very long time.

Hi Flash- yes that was me….It was funny, we pulled out of the car park around the same time…. There I was following a silver Cherokee with a Beta + EXC and TTR on a trailer….and I starting thinking….….thats probably Flash !

What a ride……Loved every second of it!!!! I would rate it just short of Dalethorope….fantastic!

We only managed two loops- did the first including the enduro sections…before Shane the guy I was ridding with fell off at the start of the second, hurting his shoulder…..so we limped all the way back- before calling it a day.

The mighty FE did very well today- but yes it was very slippery - running around 10psi in the rear….but this talk of running 3psi…??? did you buy it from Paul?

Yes Ant's i bought the tu-bliss off paul (motomox) and i run the Michelin F.I.M. enduro competition tyre, very open spacing of tread with small blocks, but works for me, it gets traction everywhere it has over 25 hours and showing signs of wear but it amazes me performance wise. Bikes with snatchy power and suspension setup for fast dirt tracks and jumping are the bikes that have the most trouble I believe.
Controllable power, good tyres and suspension set soft to soak up the tree roots and rocks are the bikes that help you get round instead of resisting your efforts on a trail ride.

Yeabut you do the impossible every day Pete.

Editing videos brings interesting dilemmas, to cut or not to cut. Usually a cut video is more entertaining to watch showing only a few highlights, but sometimes a few longer bits with less cuts can give a better actual picture of the big day out.
This guy Richard often posts videos which I find impossible to watch end to end, almost totally uncut laps of trailrides 1.5 hours long. I don't think I've been able to watch one completely without skipping forward but here's a 15 minute Dalethorpe cut of his with multiple medium(ish) length segments showing a good perspective of the track... if you can tolerate non steady shaky head cam without turning green.... long live the Sony action cams which incorporate a steady shot feature, though they have other small issues of their own. Probably what I'd get next if I upgrade the old GoPro HD1.

The last video I will be posting here today.

Yes, make no mistake, I have watched many of Richards and will continue to do so, they are good for what you describe with the ride in full, but I just prefer what I'll call the medium length stuff with some trimming for that while the super cut highlight videos such as yours are simply entertaining and can be watched more than once. There is an easier Childrens & Novice riders course as a slip on Bell Hill prevented us using this area last year. There is a number of other changes which avoid very wet areas and keep the course ridable. Important thing to remember is use the course options as appropriate for your bike and your riding ability. Options available are Children, Novice & Children, ATV Novice & Children, Main Course, Enduro [only suitable for experienced riders].

In 2012 the road near the parking area was quite slippery for my old Corona with two bikes on the trailer, Scott nearly had to sit on the bonnet to improve traction. No worries now as the Harrier is AWD with traction control. But my riding mate on his KX 500 and myself have decided to miss this one. I'm just not that keen on the amount of hard work in the mud and snow.

Wonder how TA is doing ?

Transalper

TA is doing great, drive in was firm and stony this year offering no challenge to the old 2WD Hiace.
Weather got better and better as we went in, only a couple of spits, no actual rain the whole time we were there, heck the sun was even trying to break through by the time we left.
After a little umming and arrring I decided to leave my rain jacket in the Van and just take the pocket jacket in my bag 'just in case'. It stayed in my bag the whole lap, yes Aidan and I only did one lap and we stopped for a rest and to eat our packed lunches half way round.
The Red Track itself started the same and that long stretch to the first hill gave me one heck of a head freeze and watery eyes but after we hit the hill and thus slowed things got a whole lot better. My first overtake happened right there half way up that slope as i went past a ziggy zaggy guy who couldn't keep his bike straight, I could feel the tubliss advantage already, although I remember managing something similar last year with standard tubes, gentle throttle, some balancing and I had brand new tyres then too. All the riders having the most trouble appeared to be the ones with rounded knobblies so yea, fresh tyres are best no matter what you are on. Back to the tubliss, yea, as the ride progressed it became obvious that the fabled extra traction was certainly there assisting me.
So anyway, the at the top of the first hill we went left instead of right this year and followed some roads, sometimes ducking under overhanging branches, sometimes riding through 'nice' snow. Happily not icey snow. This went on so long I was starting to think I'd wasted my entry fee or should start taking the Enduro options for some action but then it started, up, down, round and round, eventually coming to the bogs but again not as boggy as I remembered, up, down, round and round and eventually out. Was feeling good but a little toasted so rather than go again and have a bad lap we called it and headed home.... back into the grey drizzle.

Track time - Total Moving 2:21, Overall total including stops like lunch and help I'm stuck under my bike kind of things 3:20.
Distance , well the sign at the entrance said 45km, my GPS says it travelled 36.5km and I forgot to zero my trip meter so no idea what the bike reckons but my body says I went far enough for a good time.

Once again TA a great write up of your day. Sounds as though i really should have gone but i would have been one of those guys on rounded knobbles and might have held others up. Also sounds like the weather was good for you. I did go for a ride today, but nowhere as challenging as yours, well done.

A little over 200 turned up, for what IMO was a Great day/ride.

The bog area of last year never got as bad, though as the day went on, was a little work :)
Later in the day, it was near the end of the track that got very muddy...Very!
Luck would have it no issues today, though power sliding side ways down that step very, very , very slippery part of Enduro 1 did have me puckered up on my 2nd loop.

Here is a short Vid of a small part of my 2nd loop I up loaded on what you missed out on if you didn't go.

Oh, a little hard to see, but like last year, as the day went on, tree roots everywhere lol

Guys here didn't go either - their tyres would not have served them well in the conditions. A shame the weather took a turn for the worse - earlier in the week the forecast had been looking more promising.

Glad those that went had a great time. Good on you for getting out there.

You could borrow my green one Flash as another option, only problem is I'm thinking of going up for a look too.

Might take it up the Bovenvale reserve tomorrow, the signs says ' Motorbikes are welcome '

Na mate will pass on that offer, but thanks. Another mate has a nice tidy one he bought back from the good ole USA which he did a complete rebuild on, new barrel, new pipe, the whole works standard. I struggled starting it, i enjoyed riding it though but was worried about stalling it in some bad awkward spot. I might see you up there. This time traveling with a mate (series 2 landrover canvas top green)

I was up there about 10 years ago in the 4x4 and I remember there being an annoying amount of gates. Everything is always worth a look at least once though.

You're talking about Huntsbury Track in the Bovenvale Reserve. Signage says you can not leave the formed road. We occasionally adventure through there on our way to other places. Vehicles should be Regoed and WOFed too. I have actually seen the odd unregoed dirt bike up there off the track giving us a bad name though. Gates are all turned in to cattle stops now but you still find walkers, horses and cyclists there. The good thing is the sign makes it clear they can expect motorised traffic so no one gets pissy like they do on Rapaki.

Nice wee ride today, I liked the first half the most with the rocky climb and all the little muddy bog parts.
Later the day when the snow turned to mud at the top of the hill, that was fun too :)

Here is a wee video of the rocky climb, if you didn't make it, this was imo the most fun climb of the day.
Step but doable for all, with lots of rocks to keep you on your game.
First loop, it was also covered in snow (which I added to the end of the video)

Good video Deanzo, on the first lap i was at the top of the hill on the WR 450 and we chatted, i was waiting for my mate on the Beta RR300 who got it a bit wrong on the last climb and went back down to have another go. It was a good fun ride, we managed two laps. My mate got a flat tyre (cut) but also has a tu-bliss and kept riding all the way back without knowing till i showed him, he said it was moving around a bit but thought it was the slippery conditions.

Yea I heard there was lots of flats, the two guys I was riding with both got flat fronts, the Gas Gas on the first lap and the KLX on the 3rd.
I'm loving my rear tu-bliss so much, and with so many flats happening, I ordered a front off T7 when I got home, turned up at work today :)
I also rate the X20's ALOT, as good if not a little better in the mud over the S12's, but way better on firm slippery ground.
On the Honda I've had two sets of S12's, a 403/404 combo, X30 set and now the X20's
X20's by far the best winter tire out of the above, for me any how.

Holly shoot that was a windy ride today at Amberley, bit of carnage early on but avoided getting mixed up in the group pile up as half a dozen others got blowen on to a fence and thus a bit tangled.... then my goggles actually blew off, guess I should of tightened the strap a bit more.
Would be good if it was $25 for lap one, another $25 for lap 2 and after that they were all free. Wouldn't seem like such a waste as paying $50 for one lap is but I wasn't keen to go again with it blowing like that in the exposed areas.

It was soo much softer under wheel/cut up from loop one.

The main bonus was I have the Tubliss on board http://www.motomox.co.nz/shop/show_single_product.php?prod=271 so I rode the one and a half laps with a flat rear tyre no probs, still did 3 enduro deviations with a flatty, was interesting riding I must say, it was like riding a water bed without baffles but is was my get out of jail free card to carry on riding for the rest of the day

Yep gotta agree TA. Took both bikes and did a lap on both, the whole track was backwards and I really enjoyed that as well, the beta proved to be more agile in the forest and just tractored up all those soft powdery climbs, but the WR was smooth with perfect suspension on the rest of the track and just grunty throughout it's whole rev range. Bit knackered now though. Looking forward to a fast recovery from getting my new knee on Thursday and then roll on next summer when I can ride again. Ride safe guys, have fun.
