Is there anyone who is going tonight?
I will put my hand up - yes ma'am I am going for a ride and will stop at the Duck Pond to see who else is there. If no one is there (highly unlikely) I am still going for a ride.

Well good size group tonight ... all said they were coming that I knew about accounted for ... skunk included :)
not sure of numbers but a good group headed over to the tin hutt with the stragglers heading to Sandbar in need of a gentle ride ...
Sure there will be a ride report from the hill ride soon.
Cheers

Thanks and apologies to all those who waited for me on the way home.
Since we'd all left in dribs & drabs from the Tin Hut, I'd kind of assumed I was on my own ... so when my parents called me, I stopped and called them back, and talked for about 15-20 minutes.
Then heading up the hill, I met Wasp coming back to look for me, and there were a whole bunch more sitting at the summit - we almost never regroup there on the way home, right?
So - sorry about that, and I'll try not to do it again.
Having said that - perhaps we need slightly more organisation when it comes to the homeward leg? At least perhaps have a nominated 'leader' who has a vague idea where everyone's going?

Mrs H and I did our own cruisy ride tonight. RWH was spotted gassing on a cellular and also a group at the top of the summit.
Female HP tried to bust me at Upper Hutt for doing 103kmh somewhere she wasn't exactly sure of when questioned, it could have been near the roadworks at the Mangaroa lights (not signposted going south). The presence of another motorcycle that may or may not have been in front at the same time further compounded the ambiguity. So we exchanged pleasantries and then went our own ways, as you do.

Nice night for a ride; though I did find the RD's headlight a little lacking on the downward side of the hill... Some of the corners jumped out of nowhere at me so I fell back a bit and used high beam.
Time for some work on the old girl I think.
Who was the female on the red Kawasaki at the Tin Hut?

Was great night for a ride! I really wished I had a camera attached to the front as Going over the straights before Temarua it was a great image with the bikes in the evening haze. Things started to flow again so I had to do an extra lap of the rapa side.

Probably not the right thread, but the context is good, so here goes...
I'm very disappointed with how quickly the front Michelin PR2 is going off. I suspect that for the first time ever in my riding career, I will wear out a front tyre prior to its matching rear. I've done about 11,000km on the set so far, and estimate that there's at least 2,000km to go on the rear, which is behaving itself beautifully. The front, at current wear rates, may only last 500km tops.
And the forecast isn't looking that flash for a perfect summers evening tomorrow.

I'm very disappointed with how quickly the front Michelin PR2 is going off.
Must be that Ohlin shock you've just fitted. It's not that the front is wearing out faster, it's that the rear is wearing out slower. Simple really. Either that or too many stoppies!

Knock it off with the overtaking on double yellows into blind corners, the late braking overtaking move followed by the panicked rapid pull in front of the car you haven't quite passed, and what is up with the frantic arm waving, both hands off the controls when things are turning to shit in front of you?

Was that you? For chrissakes move over a bit next time!
By the way that panicked arm waving was to scrub off some speed by increasing wind resistance 'cause I have no brakes.

You are good and naughty.
I'm in a really pompous mood thanks to this (as Deano has pointed out in another thread) and I can only come across as a grumpy pompous arse by saying anything. I comment about how other people ride, based on second hand information (albeit my wife whom I trust in this) and yet I whinge about other people doing the same. I know I'm doing it.
But the Wednesday night ride should be calm, collected, and gentle. If you want to behave like a cock you could try it on the Thursday night ride, but I think you'd most probably be behaving like a cock a long way behind the the Welly Fast Crew. Who'd be having good safe, clean, FAST, fun. Not riding so slowly you irritate the crap out of a middle-aged woman in a Renault Megane Scenic for goodness sake.

You have me confused with someone else Jim. I ride over the hill at a speed that is safe for me. On Wed, when I reached the top, I followed both Elle and Lissa down to Featherstone, keeping a decent distance back and never once putting myself or Lissa/Elle at risk. At no point did I ride 'ride like a cock'. I ride 'my' ride not someone elses. And I certainly don't try to be something I'm not. Who the f^&* do you think you are! :angry2:

I wasn't talking about you Hawkeye, and I think you've read what I wrote completely wrong.
The first sentence was in response to your post. Read it in that context and it will make sense.
Who do I think I am? A husband whose wife and kids were put at risk by a bunch of motorcyclists - but not you, I wasn't talking about you, I wasn't addressing anything to you. Calm down.

Uncle B's mission was to encourage younger riders and newbies. That's his legacy for TCWNR and something those who continue it strongly believe in. An environment of sensible good fun, and enjoying the company of people who love riding motorcycles, irrespective of background or riding ability. Roll on up tomorrow or any Wednesday evening over summer and you won't be a stranger for very long!

Anyway that hill seems daunting until you've done it a few hundred times, then it becomes second nature to ride it, just always give it some respect otherwise it'll catch you asleep one day and watch for the arseholes who own the road (The other arseholes in the cars).

A good ride - Haywards and Paekak to Raumati Beach, with good food and conversation. I think Paekak gets bumpier every time I ride it though.
Tried swapping bikes with Wasp for part of the ride home - got almost as far as the main road before deciding that his bike, while nice and light and with a smooth engine, was just too damned uncomfortable for my build.
The best bit was him introducing me to his bike beforehand - you know, the usual pointing out where stuff is in case it's different.
Stuff like:
Odometer!
Trip meter!
Tacho!
Indicators ... ah, no. found them after tooting once ...
I figured he'd work my bike out.

I'm thinking it could be time to blow some of the cobwebs off the SV... will hopefully see you at the pond tomorrow.
Assuming I actually go, I'll be leaving the Mobil by the lights in Paraparaumu about 5:30pm if anyone else from the sunshine coast wants to meet there...

Till next time - keep safe

Cunning plan #2/c, contingency (d) may well involve a lazy trundle from the duckpond.

Merely moist at the pond.
Orta be ashamed, the both of you.
Must admit I got moderately bruised by a sustained burst of hail a couple of hours ago, as it wafted NE, the general direction of most excursions...
I'll content myself with a slight feeling of guilt at the raincheck, manageable enough from the vantage of my nice warm couch, consoled as I am with leftover chocolate and Moet.
