Awesome ride last night. Best one I've had for a long time, apart from you pricks all pissing off while I was taking a leak :)
Anyway had a great ride back with the guy on the TL1000, sorry, don't know any names yet. I was right in the groove. Awesome. I'm still buzzing.
Where did we lose you ? if it was the summit we all took off just before that petrol tanker arrived at the summit, and yep good ride back over hill only problem was moth splatter all over my visor made it harder to see .
I've been doing TCWNR a while now and still dont everybodies names.

The Tin Shed. I went for a leak and when I came out everyone had buggered off. Must have been something I said.
It might have been you I was tailing back over the hill.

Well shit, one small group of people left the carpark at 615, then an even smaller group, containing two black bikes, left not long after. People were saying the "red pub in Featherston". We get to Featherston and some people turn off to the "Royal" (I think thats what its called) some turn off for petrol and others start heading strat through Featherston. Then I saw a couple of wankers at the Royal and thought I'd join them for a bit.
All in all, I only lost about three hours of sleep over it

Gareth51 and I had a nice run from the top of the Tukas back to the Sandbar for the RAT meet. Damn sunstrike was a bit of an issue tho at that time of night.

No need. I'm pretty sure all the regular destinations will do saucers of milk ... :niceone:
Seriously tho if you're worried about riding back in the dark my wife would be stoked if I was home a bit early.
With daylight saving running a bit longer this year it will get a bit darker yet. Eventually TCWNR will stop for the winter and we'll meet on Sunday's instead.
Wasp
25th February 2008, 22:38
pah, we rode until about halfway into winter last year - it was dark at 5
the only reason to leave sooner (and you newbies will soon work this one out) is that i dont like sitting in the fucking cold waiting for half an hour for stragglers and late arrivers to turn up
admitedly this year will be different for me as it takes alot more time to get from town to the duck pond as compared with from lower hutt...
Rev DJ
26th February 2008, 09:00
:2thumbsup Hehe, I guess I did ask for that response
And, yes riding in the dark is a 'test' for newbies like me even though I have been driving for yonks... Looking forward to tomorrow - the weather should be great - not TOO COLD!! ... now where did I put the liner for my jacket...

Well I'm considering to venture out tonight and was thinking....whatever happened to the Pizza run that was supposed to occur as one of the 1st rides for the season?
Did it happen?
Is Elle still cooking?
Is Elle's pizza World Famous in Carterton yet?
If I were to sally forth, would I be met with "Pizza Resistance" (orright "Piece-de-resistance) or just another Mother Hubbards Cupboard?
Where is Elle's anyway?
and for that matter.....where is Elle?
Maybe a kindly 'Rapa Rider' could enlighten me and assist in the decision making process for whether, where and if I ride tonight.

Do you think we would upset anyone if we arranged to leave late and sneak over the hill to sample some gastronomic delights? That is assuming said pizzas are OK and there's no options like 'Kina Marinara' or '4 Seasons Rotten Corn'!!

The country is run on the basis of polls, focus groups and any committee's output that supports the agenda - I am just looking for a straight answer to a simple question.

Elles busy making Pizza () Jacobees is open and located in the main street of Carterton and have been creating gastronomic delights for a wee while now. Don't know if Elle will be working, I think Jens does all the hard yards. Not too sure if there is going to be many of the Rapa Riders out tonight (I'll be there but not sure if I count any more, Elle and Ronin could be anywhere, and I don't expect Mel to be going far from Skel*)

No decisions are made until you get to the duckpond.

Quick wee plug for the time honoured TCWNR organisational protocol here eh?
A bunch of dudes hang around talking shite for half an hour before one of ‘em checks his watch and notices it’s 6:35. A brief exchange of glances establishes the fact that no new leadless fearler has arisen while nobody was looking, and there’s half a dozen simultaneous mutterings denying all executive responsibility. This is, after all a "Cruisy" ride, and such things aught not to be taken lightly, even to the point of occasionally forgetting to breath.
Eventually one of the older and crustier dudes concedes that it wouldn’t actually kill him, (well not actually dead, as such) if a certain destination or route were to be attempted. More mutterings about dodgy roadworks, sunstrike, blardy traffic hurdles and “fookin’ long way home” ensue, along with vague meanderings concerning dinner, the desired components it might ideally contain and appropriate venues for the consumption thereof.
One of the group, (usually a newby, for reasons which will transpire), assuming, (about now) that a decision has not only been reached but that cunningly detailed project management procedures have been instituted and an actual PLAN has been pressed up, troubleshot, corrected, published, appealed, taken to arbitration, completely rewritten and cast in granite, starts his bike. (Yes it does make sense damit).
This throws the complete assembly into panic, jackets are zipped, helmets are fastened, unfastened, swapped for correct ones, gloves retrieved from the pond and wrung out, keys are eventually found maliciously lurking still in ignitions... and eventually a line of idling bikes transpires in the carpark. At this point some shuffling of order in the line occurs, as various participants relieve themselves of any responsibility for absolutely anything to do with the ride whatsoever.
Departure. Typically this happens within several minutes of each other, a fact that has nonetheless not always prevented several riders turning in different directions at each successive opportunity. Eventually a semi-coherent flotilla arrives on the motorway, (sometimes representing a completely different set of riders) all heading in roughly the same direction. At this point the rider on point is the one least able to avoid taking responsibility for the destination, just like real politics really.
Inevitably, the single salient piece of organisational data common to most participants is the “first waypoint”. This is a necessary part of any TCWNR in that it allows the whole process to begin again, with the bonus complication of the likelihood that some erstwhile companion is, in fact, missing. In spite of this the process here is somewhat more refined, with the nescessary utter failure of clear directions to emerge taking a mere 15min.
I urge all TCWNR participants to avoid re-engineering this organisational paradox by attempting to introduce the more usual or conventional methods for managing such events. The traditional anarcic ways are best, the existing non-structure works, delicate sensibilities remain un-trampled, uncertainties are certified, ennui eliminated, rampant actual racing reduced to a sensible minimum, rides are rid, food is et and all other necessities successfully provided for.
Your’s, some old phart.

Lissa was great to catch up with you at the Tin Hut and spending a few minutes before the main group arrived....for some strange reason I just made the connection between: Pizza, The Tin Hut, and Faulty Towers, with Elle delivering the pizza, Manuel [Kiwibiker to be identified] taking the drinks orders, and Bassell Faulty [I'd volunteer but some say I am too organised;)] and of course Bassell's wife and the Major. Perhaps we may just have a theme for a ride one TCWNR next spring.
Best regards to you Sean, and see you in the spring time.
I'd like to thank all those that joined in these last six Wednesday Night Smaller Group Rides and to thank all those that ride in the main group that I meet at the Duckpond and have a chat before we set off on our respective rides.
To those that expressed their genuine concerns about why I elected to ride earlier on a Wednesday evening a sincere thank you and for taking the time to listen. Anxiety can be a dreadful condition, and whereas people can look at life's challenges in many different ways, for some it is very difficult. Learning to ride and to have accomplished so much in 22 months I am pleased with my riding ability and honoured to have met some real good down to earth people - and that is all of you.
My Best Regards.
Thank You and Until Next Spring:

Truth be told I was moderately gobsmacked to see you lot in Upper Hutt, I'd taken fookin' ages to polish off me burger & chups and the barmaid chatted for some time after that.
I did get a good tow via a local Falcon ute, passing the pub at a good 160 just as I left, at least as far as Feathers'. Thought I was fairly restrained on the hill too, 'cause while the Buell's lights might be legal they probably shouldn't be.

Since it’s the last ride before daylight savings ends, I would suggest we go on a ride that’s not too long, with the final destination being the carpark at the Taita Bowling Club. There’s enough off street parking available there for about 200 motorbikes, and from there it is a 15 second walk to my place, where I would be happy to put on a barbeque. I would supply all the sausages and bread, and if people want any other meat or salads, then they can bring it themselves.
If this is a goer, then I would need to know by Wednesday lunchtime however, so I can make sure I’ve got enough sausages, bread, and charcoal.
If you are attending please go to calendar and click on attendance. Here is the calendar link: http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=1604&day=2008-4-2

And does the exit on the Hutt Highway say "Avalon"?

Yes folks it's on again this Wednesday - Weather permitting.
Departing 6:30 at the southern end of Avalon park by the duck/elephant pond.

The bowling club is marked with a big red A, and comes off Reynolds Street. The easiest way to get there is to turn left as you leave the duckpond carpark, then take the next left BEFORE you rech the roundabout, onto Taita Drive.
If you follow Taita drive along, it naturally turns into Reynolds Street, and the bowling club is well signposted, on the right on Reynolds Street. Once you enter the bowling club carpark, ride down to the far end of the carpark. My place has gates from the carpark into the back of my section, and I will be leaving these gates open, so we can easily keep an eye on our bikes.

[QUOTE=Number One;1502352] I left the other 2 bros at the party, they can sing their own way back to Kapiti.
Which we did - the Triumph tune (the triple and the twin), all the way over the Paekak Hill on a beeeutiful starlight night.
Thanks for the hospitality Russell.
I guess its time for the Sunday rides again.

Good ride, my first with you Wgtn lot. :niceone:
Got back to Masterton at 9.15 pm, glad that the Rimatukas and the Waiararapa road was dry and not wet like in the afternoon. It was 10 degrees when I got home but was warm and happy with my new gear.

I'd been wondering why its called the elephant pond. Your statement is starting to answer it.

When I came along to the very first weds night ride, I was told it was at the Avalon Duckpond but when I got there I never noticed the duckpond BUT there was an elephant wandering around - FOR REAL!!! There was some circus thing happening there at the time..... Uncle B kept going on about some pond but all I had noticed was the elephant so from that first or second Weds night ride he named it the Elephant Pond. I did end seeing the pond eventually!....

Yep - good on ya Russell for letting us descend on your place - and organising the :Police: security patrol for the bikes. It was a stroke of (single cylinder) genius
Great to see everyone there especially the guys from PPM and the rapa - roll on next summer - only a few months away now - and we''ll be annoying the ducks (and the odd elephant) again... Cheers DJ

Anyway - what do you mean all women there - there was me and one other and she wasn't even standing nearby at the time - and I got the distinct impression that she is not a biarch :sunny:

Great turnout, think it was the second highest we had all year...and it was slightly warmer on the largest one:bleh:
Despite the official end being yesterday is anyone keen to carry on anyway?
Its not like its that difficult riding in the dark. Might just have to have the drink inside at the destination?

Riding back over the Rimatukas last night would have been better with a few more around me (group ride) but it was no problem.
Dark is OK but dark and wet, forget it.
Bullit - go ahead and organize a "Wednesday Night Dry Weather Ride" and see who turns up. Personally I'd rather go for a Sunny Sunday ride during the short day months but I may join you some Wednesday night.
