Good fun tonight guys (yeah, I was the only chick, come on gals, where were ya!!??) We did make it home, had to stop in Featherston to swap out visors and caught up with Wasp and a few others in the Hutt.
Lovely to see you all, some of the usual suspects and some new ones too!
Might see ya next week!!:wari:
Good ride tonight.
Damn those Hutt motorway lights are annoying aren't they Doug
You guys are just lucky I don't pass people in the same lane otherwise you two would've been eating Hornet dust!! (LOL):chase:

I waved. I think Wilber waved back.
Why don't motorcyclists wave anymore? Back in the day we all used to wave and then invite everyone round for a BBQ, every time we saw other bikers on the road, and they'd drink all my Waikato Draught in about 5 mins and it was much better than to today, and a Z1 could fly to the moon, blah,blah,blah.....

Sorry, I did wonder if you guys had waited somewhere, guess it's the lack of tailend charlie organisation on the ride home, it was just starting to get a wee bit dark, but thanks anyway.

Well I was on the ride. On my way up the hill I noticed that my front way dipping alot under braking and tipping in alot in the corners. Got to the top and and pushed down on my hande bars and the shocks went down a very long way. So I turned back and slowly rode home. Really pissed off because I got it serviced on monday.

Nope, checked that straight away. I had new pads put in and maybe they fucked about with the shocks adjustment

Seems unlikely.
New pads can be quite grabby for a while, are you just pulling up quicker without realising it?
Checked front tyre pressure?

I can press the front end half way down by hand.

I can press the front end half way down by hand.
So can I, (but I'm a fat bastard).
Is the spring preload adjustable? Don't know what the sag should be on that, someone else will. I'd expect somewhere around 10mm static, (bike weight only) and maybe 30mm with you on it, (in normal riding position). Need someone to hold you up and measure.
Either way, if the sag's way too much then it's nothing to do with damping, either the preload is way out or a spring's broken, (rare).

Indeed there was. Welcome to Paul and Erin, nice to meet you guys.
Unfortunately the slow leak in the front tyre decided to become a fast leak about the time I got back to Featherston and found the servo had shut so tried to make it to Greytown but ran out of air at the outskirts so the bike is overnighting at a motel there and I will have to get it tomorrow. Grumble- brand new tyre fitted today- will be interesting to see what they have to say at the bikeshop that fitted it.
Thanks to Gareth51 for the pillion home.

The weather in the Wairarapa last night was better than perfect -- it was cranked all the way up to 11! The pre-beverage excursion was a delightful way to spend a Wednesday summer's evening.
However, it still managed to blow on the Hill for the return trip, but I must have been well "zoned" despite that, managing a bridge-to-bridge of just under 11 minutes.

Grumble- brand new tyre fitted today- will be interesting to see what they have to say at the bikeshop that fitted it.
A little update on this. When I went into the shop the next morning and told them what had happened. They immediatley sent one of their blokes in their ute from Paraparaumu to Greytown to pick it up. No charge - brilliant.:niceone:
They put a new tube in it and it is now all good.
They had reused my old tube initially when fitting the new tyre and maybe hadnt fully checked it after fitting - one blokes oversight perhaps. Thats ok, everyone can make a mistake - "its the putting right that counts"
And after sales service was excellent. No quibbles, just "sorry - we'll fix it" - and they did. They wouldnt have made a profit on that deal, but they will definitly be getting some repeat business and some word-of -mouth advertising from me.
The shop is Bike Clinic on Kapiti Rd, Paraparaumu. They have just opened but Phil Burgess the owner has been in the bike business for many years. Great staff, great service, I reccommend them.

We went right around the Grey road bay and then over Piecock and off to the pub/cafe above the swimming pool for food and drink.
I had a brilliant ride coming back through Piecock. Got onto the main drag along Judgeford and my motor went pop :blank:! Had to get it trailered back to my place. I'll be ringing TSS first thing tomorrow morning and hopefully getting it back on the road as soon as possible.

Maybe aye They are almost in my price range for second hand ones now so a hybag for winterseries on the track and summer on the roads is an attractive option. The Wainui boys one has served the well on the track so far and it is certainly good value for money compared to wanking up the VFR.

I had heard a few 3rd hand stories that some hyosungs can pop early
I've heard a few "pop early" stories (including a 650 seizing completely), quite a lot of "buggered rear shock" and not many "pop late". It appears that once a Hyobag is over it's infant mortality thing they're generally good to go. Mind you, 13,000k is not exactly infant mortality and it is outside the warranty IIRC.

TSS has confirmed there is something wrong with the engine... I think they are going to start pulling it apart tomorrow and find out what exactly the problem is. Then they will contact hyosung and try to get it fixed under warrenty, seeing as how the engine should last a little longer than it has.
Hopefully Hyosung will decide to be good buggers and fix it under warrenty.
It sucks so much having to drive everywhere

Sorry to hear of this disaster. They should fix it - there is something fundamentally wrong with a 10,000km limit on warranty. It makes me suspect Hyosung know something - and it is not good news.

You also have a redress under the Consumer Guarantees Act. There is a general expectation when you buy the bike that it will last at least 50,000km before needing some replacement parts. But at no time as you say, would you expect a total mechanical failure within 100,000km at the very least.
The Act basically says that you are right. "Manufacturer's Warranties" have really been superseded by the Act where the test of your reasonable expectations when you made the purchase becomes the defining factor.
That's not a card to play lightly though. Wait until all othe avenues have been exhausted

This is an interesting one. The distributer mught be tempted to argue that the customer should not reasonably expect the bike to last longer than the warranty because of the coutnry of manufacturer is not "generally accepted" as being a location that make quality prouct, unlike say Japan. However, they would be shooting themselves in the foot.
Distributers of Italian and British bikes could also make the same argument.
This is not a piss take.

Arrived at duckpond last night and mentioned to KoroJ, I was thinking of doing a nana ride around the western side of Lake Wairarapa and back the East West Access Road and Kahutara Rd. John said he did that last weekend and would be just going onto the Tin Hut.
RussellWhitlock arrived on the 650 Savage and he was keen and so were a few other 250 riders to do the lake loop, Russell suggested a stop at the Royal hotel [the red one] to order meals, allowing a 50minutes to an hour for the ride.
I was TEC and KoroJ was waiting at top of Rimutaka Hill, thanks John, and followed down to the Royal. When I arrived in Featherston, apparently quite a few of the riders stopped at the Royal, I don't know who/how many may have gone onto the Tin Hut.
Rev DJ and Mowgli on their L's and [dang forgot name - another rider on his Firestorm he just purchased and ridden back from Hamilton on the weekend], Russell and I had a good ride. Caution with sun strike, then a bunny across the road, and on the way back, we nearly had some prime beef up in the distance, with a stray outside the paddock fence on the road. We came to a crawl and had to move right across to the opposite side of the road, fortunately a clear stretch and good visual distance.
Got back to the Royal around 8.15pm, 65km for the loop and 50minutes the ride, just as the meals were being brought out. The riders that remained there were just getting ready to leave when we got back.
I think Russell may be onto a good idea for next riding season when the days get longer, say once every 3 or 4 weeks to BRE 'book & ride & eat' out of Featherston.
Thanks Russell, Mowgli, Rev DJ and blue Firestorm rider, for a great evenings ride.
Heads Up and Enjoy

We came over the hill with the others, (i dont know how many there were,) but a dozen or so. Took the long way back home via Ngauranga interchange and SH1. Got back around 9.25pm

Had a bit of a scary moment on the way home, though. Just after the Takas someone in their 4WD decided to overtake Nivram and I about 6 - 10 metres before a blind corner, since we had the audacity to be only doing 80 kph in a 100 zone!!!
And if someone had come around the corner going the other way, I know exactly what would have happened - he would have moved back into the left lane in a hell of a hurry. I mean, which would he have considered the lesser of two evils - that two motorcyclists are killed when they are crushed by the side of his 4WD, or that he is involved in a head on collision. After all, only one of those scenarios involve his life being put at risk.
On the bright side, I've got his numberplate, and will pass it on to the cops today. I may also go into the Post Office, and get his name and address, and send him a very polite letter explaining that the two motorcyclists whose lives he seemed to care so little about are both married, and between them have three children. And unless he wants to spend the rest of his life supporting our two wives and three kids with his wages, since his careless and thoughtless actions prevented us from doing so ourselves, that he should perhaps take a little more care in future when he's on the road.

I didn't make it to TCWNR, but did make it to welly briefly. The rapa riders had a wee cruise out to Martinborough in the morning for lunch then back to Masterton. Seeing as it was still only about 1.30 in the avo, it was a sunny public holiday, and I have a new bike, I might as well ride to Welly and catch up with a mate.
Tracked him down, then learnt a new trick in the evening. He's having a 28 day break from motorcycling, so had my first go at carrying a passenger. Just cruised round the bays taking it very easy.
Eventually headed back to Masterton late last night. Was warm when I left Welly, but it got rather cold between Carterton and Masterton.

I am thinking a two to two and half hour non-stop ride over the hill this evening from 6.30 and perhaps stopping back in Upper Hutt before 9 for coffee if it is not getting too dark.
A group of no more than 5 would be preferred. And no it will not be a fang, just a cruisie ride.
PM if you are interested and we may get away at 6.15 from the duckpond.

Don't take offence, Guy. The Wednesday night is famous for its relaxed spontaneity and the general vibe is for it not to be a highly organised event. People are happy to go with the flow based on what the weather looks like, who else turns up and so on. These events have worked well for three summers without anybody in particular assuming "organisational" status.
Your organised events appeal to a bunch of like-minded folks. I guess the message I have taken from the earlier posts is that having two KB events happening in the same town on the same night detracts from both.

It's quite simple really. TCWNR is "cruisy" and it is for newbies. That is the purpose of the ride when it was started x number of years ago abnd was celebrated as such by UncleB. The txt that begins this thread is a copy of a copy of whoever started these rides. The Thursday rides are for the serious riders but they also come on the Wednesday nights and are welcome.
TCWNR starts at the duckpond at 6.30. If a whole bunch of people leave at 6:15, where does that leave those that turn up between 6.16 and 6.30?
If anyone wants to have different rides that's cool, the more the merrier ... just not at that place at that time (minus 15mins)

No offence taken Hitcher.
I have always appreciated the whole concept of the Wednesday Night rides, and since the beginning of 2008 I have been more than happy to take the Tail End Charlie over the hill. I trust that that has not been seen as being a 'highly organised event', nor have I assumed to take on any organisational status. Concensus on the evening is always the norm.
Between now and the end of daylight saving, and I am sure we are all aware that the days are getting shorter, I am going to ride on a Wednesday night, leaving from the duckpond at 6.30, or if as arranged by PM. I may leave earlier and limit the group to myself and a maximum of four other riders. I am conscious of the fact that group rides in the twilight can become hazardous, hence limiting the group to 5 riders. Generally my intention will be to go just for the ride and perhaps a coffee or soft drink. I am not too concerned about ordering something to eat as the sun is setting.
Yeah, what he said... Sorry please keep breathing.
Its just that Uncle B started the Weds night ride for exactly what Hitcher said.... Wasnt trying to put you down mate!!
No sweat, Uncle B as most of you are aware was my mentor, and what I propose doing limiting my group to 5 riders between now and end of daylight saving, I somewhat think Bruce would be supportive, he might even say 'where will you be riding Guy, the main 6.30 ride may see you there.'
It's quite simple really. TCWNR is "cruisy" and it is for newbies. That is the purpose of the ride when it was started x number of years ago abnd was celebrated as such by UncleB. Brett, don't be concerned, if it is arranged by PM, and limited to 5 riders, we know who we are, then we will have the opportunity to explain, if it is necessary, that 'we are outside the 6.30 ride group and leaving as a core group of five only, wait until the others arrive for the 6.30 group.'
Hmm... didn't realise TCWNR was a franchise
I could see you were going to get this reaction Buck.
Cheers Sean, makes you wonder if the earth is flat or round sometimes doesn't it.
As has been said. The Wednesday night rides were created by Uncle B, and should stay the same.
Sparky Bills, Amen to that, I couldn't agree more. If however there is an option to leave earlier primarily for safety reasons then I am sure, a group of 5, myself plus 4 will not overly disrupt the usual 6.30pm ride.

I am thinking ....etc
Might as well put my 2c in...
There is no "rules" about organising rides on KB, anybody can organise any sort of ride, anytime, just by posting the details. (No need to have a poll on it...)
Having said that, I tend to agree with Hitchers earlier post about leaving the format the the TCWNR as it is...nice and loose.
However if BBNo1 wants to mentor new riders then good on him. BuckBuck often plays the Tail-end-Charlie role now, and I for one appreciate that as I have done it a few times myself and am glad when someone else does it. I think the two concepts can work together. Often now the ride tends to split up into slower and faster groups anyway, people can chose where they want to be. Lets just keep the lines of communication open.
BB also makes a valid point about the daylight - it is getting noticably darker earlier now. Perhaps a slightly earlier departure time would not be a bad idea?

Love the TCWNR's
Teaches me something new every time
Love the 6:30 kick off - gives me time to get home from work, dump the gear and get changed.
Love the general vibe of the assembled masses (27 bikes) the other night. (And not one bin - how comfortable is that ).....Great to see
Not put off by being on "L's" and having to ride in the dark, rather it has stood me in good stead as I have to ride home from work at 10:30pm and 3:30am after some shifts...It definetly ain't light out then...
The ride is of sufficient length to get the fix, and the drink and small feed while enjoying a "Talk some shit" session is one of the great selling points of the evening. Hints tips advice are always passed on, and worked on. Wow Grp Mentoring from lots of different riders, and it's free...Damm are we lucky buggers or what...

And this is what TCWNR is about .... the Ls are there ... there is some challenges ... we, most the time, ride not as a whole but as smaller groups .. I never rode with more than 6 of the larger group as a learner .... with a leader and tail end charlie .... some of the fuss here is just one persons perception of how things should be done ... and as it is a free ride .. and not controlled by that person he has created issues ... oh well ... TCWNR goes on ... Wednesday 6.30 at the duck pond ... this was a time choosen to allow multiple finish times from work and still have a reasonable group to meet at the various stop points.

Amen to that. Thanks Trudi, you know like they say, it is not a case of 'toughen up' but keep on asking until you find someone who understands.
What ever issues exist, it may pay for some people to get to know me to fully understand. I put a period, full stop, finish, to any harmonious relationship that goes sour and move on. Life is too short to get hung up.

Yet another great evening to go over the hill. Blobbed out in the front lawn of the Tim Hut eating good food with a bunch of KBers as the sun goes down ... sublime!
The cafe at the top of the Takas didn't look like it had taken any heat but it was hard to see the generator shed damage at the back. I just hope this doesn't mean the end of the place. I so wish that the Regional Council would invest a few bucks in the building, then charge a good operator a peppercorn lease - it's a great facility to have, I would hate to see it go.

They're not going to. The lease is being extended month by month and it is fully intended that it will all be ripped down. The toilets are no longer serviceable and will be removed shortly. It isn't a profitable site because there are no services, so the generator and septic tank maintenance eat any profit that a two day a week business makes.

I so wish that the Regional Council would invest a few bucks in the building, then charge a good operator a peppercorn lease.
They have and they do. Although the "good operator" part is problematic. It costs the Regional Council about $30,000 a year to maintain the toilets at the summit. Maintaining public dunnies (apart from those in regional parks) is not core business for the Regional Council.
Even if there was no rent charged, there is no mains electricity or city water supply and sewerage at the summit. The absence of these places significant constraints on what an operator may do. Everything they sell up there has to be driven up the hill, as does their workforce. And given that this is, at best, a two-day-a-week business, Nobody is ever going to make a *go* of it.
While the views of a handful of bikers who like to have a wee and buy a coke at the summit once a month are interesting, any profits from that are unlikely to fund the running costs of an African orphan.
