Yeah, like Halswell Tavern car park. Massive area, and it's right at the edge of town.

How aboout meet, eer :shifty: Rangiora.... so much closer to home;)

Though I'll meet anywheres, not much point me meeting where no one else is, as that would not make a meeting..... what is a meeting with yourself called?

Quite a good meeting place, that... only downside being with the meeting time people need to be able to get home from work, get kitted up and get to the meeting place in time for leaving. Having said that we do seem to have a number of members over that side of town already. Thoughts?

I guess if you decide to meet at Halswell and the ride goes north it's still easy to skirt around town from there.
You might just have to make the meeting time 6:30pm (if Halswell), depart 7pm sharpish?
Last time I looked (long time ago) there was a Fish & Chip shop there to get your burgers at if anyone wanted to grab a snack before departure.
In the end I don't really see much of a down side to a Halswell meeting place.

Its just getting a bit too late, especially at this time of the year when its still dark well before 8. Can people not get out to Halswell before 6.30? It's not that far away. I do think that would be a good meeting place though. I'm just a bit worried about pushing the departure time back

I agree with that. Leaving at 6.30 is about as late as I'd want to leave... especially if we're going slightly further afield than just to the Wheatsheaf. So, I think for next Wednesday we'll just meet at BK Moorhouse again, same time... and regroup at the Halswell Tavern (in case of being split up at lights) not long afterwards. So if you can't be arsed going all the way into BK, just wait for us at the Halswell. How's that sound for a winner? ;)

Transalper
5th October 2007, 14:02
Thing is it was actually just after 6:45 when we departed BK and very close to 7pm when passing Halswell anyway.
Make the departure time a little firmer at 7pm from Halswell instead of giving everyone an extra 15minutes after the quoted departure time then the times work out same as what we just did. I do hate to feel rushed though.
Not really going to affect me either way, if work picks up again I'll be stuffed until 10pm those nights.

So if you can't be arsed going all the way into BK, just wait for us at the Halswell. How's that sound for a winner? ;)Works for me as I am about 4 or 5 minutes away from BK.

Yea stick with plan 'A' don't confuse anyone.

For me, the 6:30 aint good as I work early mornings every two weeks.. and then I work nights the weeks in between. So I'm either at work, or I have to be in bed early/already asleep by 6:30. Even today, I got home at 3 and jumped into bed as I have to be back at work at 3am and get out in time to head to Biketoberfest. Im only up now as someone bloody rang me, and the thought of the ice cream in the fridge made it hard to sleep :D

Waiting at Halswell would suit me good, but any Wensday ride I show up at I'd leave early to get back home by 8:30 at latest.

i agree 6.30 is a good leaving time ATM, but its going to be getting dark later and later so maybe in the future it could be 7???

Sorry i missed the first ride-busy with work.I think the BK meeting place is a good central one.As not all rides are going out through Halswell are they?Would get a bit boring doing the same run week after week and ending up at the Wheatsheaf pub.How about getting some ideas of some rides worked out and send a PM or post up for the run organiser/s an option of where to head on future nights. I wont make the next ride as i will be up North swapping bikes, but will try the next week. cheers.

Hey all,

I just got my 2007 Suzuki GN250 on tuesday and have been buzzing around now all week. It's great fun!

My question is would a L-Plate Rider (myself) be suitable for a Cruisy Wednesday Night Ride? If people expect to be going over 70kph or riding later than 10pm it might start getting tricky for me.

Obviously I can always leave when I need to (so the time factor isn't really an issue) but I don't want to turn up and find that I'm the one Learner there who is slowing down a bunch of hard-core bikers who expect to be going 120kph!

I'd really like to meet people who are experienced riders and get a chance to learn about riding (since i really have zero knowledge). I also love to get to hear about more rides to fun places! Riding by myself is fun, but I can only imagine that riding with others is better

Anyway, let me know... if you can think of a better regular ride for me to attend I'd be interested to hear.

phoenixgtr
8th October 2007, 07:35
Hi Mach,

One of the points of these rides is to get learners out riding with more experienced riders so you're definately welcome along. We will always cater for you, i.e. there will always be an experienced rider at the tail to make sure noone gets left behind. We do tend to ride in 100k zones but if you can only do 70 you won't be left behind. We were home before 10 last week, so I don't see that being a problem.

I hope you can make it along

Sounds good, Phoenix. I've already been PM'd a couple of times about CHCH rides so it looks like the ol' KB community is doing itself proud!

Unless something random and horrible comes up I expect to be there on Wednesday. As I understand it, that is BK Moorhouse at 6pm on Wednesday for a 6:30pm start?

Dunno. I'm not really a leader type of person, donchaknow (didn't think I'd have to make a speech last week!). Not fast enough to ride in the lead... though since it was supposed to have been a cruisy ride (and no-one was really interested in just cruising) the pace should've been fine... I dunno. Any ideas? Not looking like I'll have my bike back for this one either.

Ok, so for those of us who are Canterbury challenged, how do you get there and how long do you think it would take? If it's a bit of a longer ride maybe it would be more suitable for later in the year. Perhaps the Lincoln suggestion, but I can see that having to opposite problem

.... weather's not suppose to be too sh*t hot though :S

NZ City forecast shows Partly Cloudy going on overcast and about 10 degrease ain't to bad in my book. MetVUW shows a little spit coming in by about midnight. Just have to wait and see I guess.

I'll be coming out to play again.
I thought the leader and tail end sweeper did a fine job. Just make sure we are all together on the edge of town this time and every thing will be fine.
The only other thing you could possibly do is Lemans suggestion (post #142) of keeping together by staying in visual contact with the person behind you, especially at intersections where you slow or stop and make sure the next rider turns too, then they do the same for the next person and so on. Be good when going back roads to Lincoln or such places where there are various route choices.
Problem with that is people are usually more interested in keeping up with the rider directly in front of them so don't/forget/ or can't be bothered.

As for this weeks route, well that's the big question isn't it, now don't let the big boys and girls on fast bikes run away with the destination, just bearing in mind the novice and small bike friendly intention of the mid week ride.
If all else fails we could always do last weeks route backwards this time.

yeah, exactly my thought. The gorges route would be good on a night when we have plenty of time, later in the year. It prob a couple of hours riding at 100kmhish pace all up

If we did this we would definatly have to throw dyers pass into the mix rather than miss it out like last time.

However I would have hated to go over Dyers pass when it was as dark as it was last week on the way back.

Had another look am my favorite weather sites and hate to say that they both moved the rain a little earlier in the day now. Prediction now is just 1 to 2 mm of rain accumulated in the 6 hours from 1pm Wednesday to 7pm, and more like 4mm over the next 6 hours. 1 or 2 mm is ok, that just spits at ya, maybe a quick shower and done with. 4mm gets you wet. Here's hoping it comes late.

Last time I did Dyers Pass they had a road work traffic light just over the other side. Annoying thing it is.

I remember that. After some heavy rain there was a slip from the hillside above the road and some heavy debris including large rocks fell onto the near lane. I was coming back up the hill the following day, and there was a lot of crud on the road, only one lane was open. That was quite a while ago though, they're still there?

I did Dyers on the way home from the last run. Pain in the dark. I think we should leave the three gorges until its lighter later[great ride tho]. If we go to Lincoln via the back roads-can I suggest Springston Pub for a stop, or even the Lincoln Tavern.

Right, were going to check out this Lincoln route. Could someone who knows where they're going please post up the route and maybe even a map? That would be awesome. I'll also ask if that person could lead the ride (seeing as they know where they're going).

We will still meet at the BK carpark at 6 but we will try to leave there at 6.30pm sharp and regroup in Halswell before heading off.

Sound like a plan?

P.S. Welcome Mikkel and don't worry, if it's raining I don't think any of us will be going

I think the problem with the backroad to Lincoln is that it's just not twisty enough. I made up a map for it (including posted corner speeds and speed limit changes), which I'll attach to show you why I don't think it's that good.

The good part of it's the twistys leading up to the 35K corner. After that, the road's bumpy, and there's bugger all corners to keep it interesting. I've ridden this road many times, and it's just not twisty enough to keep to the speed limit, because boredom sets in.

If we wanted a better route, how about down old taitapu road and head to little river. There's a pub there that we can stop at, and we can then split into three groups: over gebbies then through lyttleton tunnel, over gebbies, then over dyer's pass back to chch, or back the way we came. I think these would make for a better ride than just to lincoln (or springston) as that way's boooring.

Have a look at the map I made to show you the lincoln route. Please don't go this way unless we're going somewhere with twistys afterwards.

Now you have my interest again. If you were adventure riders then there would be more than one way back from Little River, I'd be real tempted to take the Western valley rd to Port Levy which completes a loop taking me home thru Diamond Harbour. Awesome run, took the CBR1000F over it once or twice when I owned it, real hard work, corrugated shingle and a bit of a stream/ford to cross, very scenic but kinda shakes the fairing and creates or opens up any stress cracks that you might have, adds a half hour or so to the trip back past the the Weatchef too, but your not Adventure riders so I'll try to forget that it's there if we find ourselves in Little River.

Nice ride to KBs. Waited 20 mins in the rain (sort of - there was a roof :) ), gave up and then ordered a curry and decided to make the cruise to Ferrymead by myself.
Just as I was about to head out onto Moorhouse the other participant of todays shining cruise showed up and we had a good chat before I headed on. Good to meet you Transalper!
Now I'm back home with a full stomach and still nice and warm - the weather wasn't too bad to be honest. Hope we'll be able to improve on the number of attendees for next week though. (Average is now down to 13.5 if 25 people attended last week)

Nice to do some wet wheather riding actually - but fuck me I need another helmet, I can't have the visor down on this one without it fogging up immediately. So yeah - got a face wash tonight.... hope it's good for my pores. ;)

I'm home now, just put the bike away and feet up.
Good to meet Mikkel. I was all dressed snug warm and water resistant, as we departed I said I might just go home since it was raining, Mikkel says why... I thought about it a bit while putting helmet and gloves back on and decided he was right.

My ride went down Colombo up Dyers Pass to the que at the road work traffic light.
Bugger it I thought, so I angled right, went over the curb through the little car park and out on to the Summit Rd, a glance in the mirror saw the cars still waiting as I rounded the bend out of sight on my way to Gebbies.
Got to Gebbies with the intention of going back via the Tunnel and decided bugger it again and turned right then left at the bottom and cruised in to Little River.
Little River, well, I couldn't stop now so off in to the slightly muddy Western Valley Rd where I started encountering various small animals on the road, both live and dead, also several groups (not enough to call a flock) of sheep and even a cow standing in the middle of the road, actually when I went round the cow I hadn't even reached the dirt bit yet.
Got off the shingle and dirt after a big grin run at about 8:05pm and followed the bays to the Tunnel then home about 9pm.

Got to say I throughly enjoyed my little adventure.

Mine is showing signs of being that time. I have one on the way, sprockets too of course.
Was going to try get a few more kms out of them but starting to wonder is it worth the risk of a potential failure if I push it too far.

Good on ya Transalper - that's the spirit! Glad you got around to a nice ride after all. If I hadn't had my girlfriend waiting for me to bring home the dinner I'm sure I'd have gone for an hour more or so.

Hah, yeah i just moved here to CHCH at the beginning of Feb. The weather changes a lot less here than in Auckland.

Sure, while it means one or two events might get rained out at least the weather stays doing the same thing for more than 2 hours. When its dry, its dry. :sunny:

Bizarre facts are what I specialise in. My XB12X is still in Wellington, and it will be down here later this month. I did some research for my company in regard to rain and the results I outlined above gobsmacked me.I came down from Auckland 4 or 5 years ago, and it struck me how many people said "It ALWAYS rains in Auckland." This is regularly followed by "The garden could do with some rain." Go figure. Anyway, when my bike gets down here I want to get out and use it so I'll be checking out anyone who wants a ramble. Does anyone know wnayone with a Buell down here? I ain't seen many.:cold:

I do think that would be a good meeting place though. I'm just a bit worried about pushing the departure time backWe did a heap of rides to Akaroa last summer in the dark. Was heaps of fun, roads to ourselves, easy to see oncoming traffic... so long as you're not treating it like a race, it's a good blast on a warm night.

Only trouble is the bugs... you get spattered something chronic

Otherwise I guess if it's curves that we want then we'll have to head to the hills. If it's easy crusing on the flat we got a plethora of unused straight roads out on the plains...

im keen to do the gorges this wednesday...

rashika can you name the 3 gorges you have in mind? I'll try whipping up a map on google earth.

Transalper
14th October 2007, 22:42
When people refer to the 3 gorges run as far as I know they are usually referring to the Ashley Gorge, Waimakariri Gorge, Rakaia Gorge loop (home via Highbank, Barrhill, Rakaia, and SHW1).

The Great Escapes book also mentions this route as the 3 gorges loop. It says it's 246km an to allow 3 to 4 hours return.

As a point of interest or comparison the book mentions the Christchurch to Akaroa loop as well, making it a loop by going one way via Taitapu and the other way via Gebbies and the Bays or Summit Rd. From the Gebbies turn off to Akaroa is of course the same each way.
Book lists that as 170km return and 3 to 4 hours also.

Machiavelli
14th October 2007, 23:29
"the Ashley Gorge, Waimakariri Gorge, Rakaia Gorge loop ... [is] 246km"

"the Christchurch to Akaroa loop ... [is] 170km return and 3 to 4 hours also"

What am I supposed to do on my GN? I've been filling up at <200km and my calculations put the range on my main tank as less than the route you first suggested.
I wouldn't like to run afoul of a tiny tank after hour 4 of a gorge run as the sun has truly set and I realise all of the rural petrol stations have shut.

Transalper
14th October 2007, 23:55
You could always pack a can of gas like some of us do on our duel sport adventures in to places where there are plain and simple no petrol stations, open or closed.

Personally I'd still prefer to go Akaroa direction, like even if only to Hill Top (about 1 hour/68km from center of town) or Little River (about 52km/50minutes from Burger King). I still tend to think these are better for a shortish mid week ride with smaller bikes in tow. I know other people don't want to ride the same road every week, but to me the penisula beats flat n straight every time.

How about stuff like Sumner, Evans Pass to the Summit Rd to Gebbies Pass to Little River and then the Bays back through to the Tunnel sometime too.

(Times quoted this post from google maps.)

Rashika
15th October 2007, 04:09
Yep transalper has it right with the 3 gorges. But I was talking just about either Ashley only or Ashley/Waimak and back, its a bit shorter and you get the nice windy stuff out the back of Loburn to start with and straight back via tram (boring but direct) road.

I'd much rather do akaroa, or the Hilltop for a shorter trip, but for variety the gorge(s) would be nice. Or to Greta valley. Over the port hills is always fun, altho whats the road like at the moment? And the traffic light situation at the top? Haven't been over for a couple of months, trying to avoid the road works up there.

Altho its feeling ferking cold out there at the moment, must be snow about... yes I am up normally at this time... to go to work

Try to remember that this is a newbie friendly ride. We don't want to be riding for 3-4 hours. By the way, who takes 3-4 hours to ride to Akaroa and back?? Maybe that includes the time it takes you to eat your lunch while you're there.

Anyway, Little River is definately an option and maybe 1 of the gorges. Around Sumner side of the Port Hills and out to Diamond Harbour could be nice. Some mid summer rides to Akaroa later in the year would be lovely

I'd tend to think any newbee who hasn't learned to corner yet especially on a low powered bike, especially on a cruisy ride, especially when timed coming all the way from the middle of town could easily take 3 hours round trip... especially when the bays are included.

The c. k. cruisers and s.g.c. (don't know if i got the letters right) made plans for a short ride on the weekend and lot's of people decided to voice their opinons that they thought the destination sucked. People laughing and poking fun at people instead of laughing with people and the thread was deleted.

Now back to this thread, I don't think we'll get rain but seems we might have to put up with a bit of gusty wind.
I'll see who ever turns up at BK, if I'm not too late :pinch:

Ahhhh...I heard about the ride but never saw the thread. I was genuinly confused. Cheers

As long as its not raining I'll be there. I can handle a bit of wind. After all, I came from Wellington

As I was heading up Mt. Pleasant about 30-45 mins ago there were some rather gloomy clouds rolling over the top of the hills. We've had a slight and insignificant drizzle up here but it seems the cloud formation has dissipated after moving out over the city.
I'm still waiting for the rain radar to update. If it hits the peninsula instead of Chch city we might wanna consider something else than Diamond Harbour...

Keeping my fingers crossed.

Good to meet some more of you fellas. 9 people showed up at BK and we headed out towards Evans pass via Sumner at about 6:35. From Evans pass we went to the pub (can't remember the bloody name now) where the road over Gebbies meets the road to Diamond harbour. Here we had a look at the weather and decided - nah, it's turning to shit. cruza and uNople went over Gebbies towards Halswell while the rest of us doubled back to Lyttleton, through the tunnel to Ferrymead where we had a couple of beers at the watershed. All in all a good night out - although the weather could've been better. Still, we managed to stay dry.

See you guys wednesday :)

Bloody good fun I must say.

My rear suspension was set way to hard though and some of those ripples in the road around corners were murder. Set the rear sliding cos of that a few times. All good fun though.

Spent most of my time behind Machiavelli on the way towards The WheatSheaf. I did enjoy just plodding along and oogling at the scenery and followed Transalper most of the way back into town at a reasonable clip.

A very plesant night. Could have been a bit warmer but thats motorcycling for you.

Yeah, I'm a silly bugger... but I'd feel bad constantly using the Bandit. I can't take it for granted that I can use it. I'd feel even worse if I were to damage it. Sure, I'd be able to fix it... but that money is already spoken for, having to fork out to fix the Bandit would mess up the game plan.

Yeah it was great. I managed to have fun, riding in a group is awesome compared to riding solo. Perhaps with a few less people it'd feel even more casual, but riding in a pack certainly has a great feel to it.

Absolutely beautiful day for a ride. Met up with Spuds1234 at Northlands Mall and decided to head over Dyers Pass Road and fang out to Diamond Harbour and Godley House. Great ride over there, apart from a little traffic towards the end... lovely and sunny, warm, no breeze... Enjoyed a quiet drink out at the pub in the sunshine, then honked back over the hill and home again. Nice run on the way home too, chasing a racey Audi back over the hill :niceone: Running up the hill I lost much ground, with the NZ's lack of grutn... but would always catch him up again round the twisty bits. Looking like it's going to be a cracker tomorrow evening - hopefully it isn't too windy. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the Summit Road because I see it as a goat track unfit for the purpose... rutted, off camber, with grit and gravel where you least want it let alone expect it. But that's just my personal humble pie opinion. IMO if we're going to do the Summit Road length as Spuds is suggesting, we should blast up Dyers Pass Road and down to the Wheatsheaf, turn off up Gebbies Pass, then turn onto the Summit Road and go from there. Any opinions on the matter? Anyone like to buy a vowel? I suppose the other school of thought is to do it the other way around, so it's not dark when we're actually doing the Summit. I doubt it will be if we go the first way I suggested - it's light to near on 8.20pm now - but this is something to consider.

Either way, I've got my bike back now, so I'll be there with bells on. :wari:

I've gotta agree. It's a really rough road and the suspension on my bike really doesn't handle it too well, but I figure we can try it once and if the group really doesn't like it it won't be a route we repeat.

I like your suggestion but there are people who don't feel too good about Dyers, but then again, if they don't like Dyers I can't imagine them liking Summit Rd.

At a leisurely pace (not overly fast, not overly slow) the road is a piece of cake, although it's likely I don't notice the bumps like your sport bikes do. There was hardly any grit up there about two weeks ago. The Sumner end has a few of those endless corners that appear to be reducing radius corners if you get on the power too soon, so taking it at a cruisy pace is the best way to ride up there in my opinion.
Watch out for push bikes and oncoming cars especially on blind bends. Just ride at a speed that keeps you well in your own lane, that includes keeping your head as well as your bike on your side of the road. Do that and any grit encountered won't be a problem either.
Between Sumner and Dyers there are a few bail out roads if it's too much for anyone (heaven forbid) and don't forget to watch where you are going while waving at the people in Gondolas.
I'm in for the Summit Rd today, this could be my last Wednesday though.

Not every road resembles Ruapuna Race Track and so not every road can be ridden fast, if you go in with the mind set of trying to ride the Summit Rd fast then you could be disappointed most of the time and yes then it will seem like a pig of a road.
Chill out, back off, stop trying so hard and find the flow slower than you're used to, then it may become enjoyable for you all too... or not, I don't know, but I still did enjoy the Summit from on board my CBR1000F and VF1000f when I had them too. I get the impression that some of you arnt very comfitable with doing the Summit Road and I can understand why. And this is supposed to be a newbie friendly ride. The last thing we need is someone panicing and having a crash while we are up there (just thinking of myself here, a crash -any crash- would ruin my night).

Reguardless of what we do though I think that once this wind goes away its going to be one cracker ride tonight.

I'm always keen for a strop to Diamond Harbour, one of my favourite rides... up over Dyers Pass Road, down the other side (careful of the road works), through Teddington and on around to D/H. You can of course turn off at the sign of the Kiwi and do it that way... but I don't find that part of Gebbies Pass that much fun and as I've mentioned before I'm not a big fan of the Summit Road, esp. for a newbie friendly ride. If we take it at a newbie friendly pace (read, much more cruisy than usual), I don't reckon it'd be a problem... if the wind wasn't so strong at the moment. Bah!

There were a fair few cyclists up at that end and the weather was great, although their was that big cloud looming. Bugger, left the wet weather pants at home in my last minute rush. Oh well what the heck, and on we go.
No one to wave at on the gondola, in fact I think they weren't running.
I got struck by the pea sized hail passing the Sugarloaf driveway, passed another cyclist sheltering under a tree. The hail was funny, just bouncing off but not getting me wet.
On over the Dyers Pass intersection and a few more bends had a spectacular view of the rain front closing on the city. Dumb ass, left the camera behind too. Hmm wonder which cloud sent the hail as the one coming was much bigger and darker than anything above me at the time.
Nearing Gebbies and I'm in the cloud, wind picking up too.
Down Gebbies and no one at the Weatchef so on to Diamond harbor to see if they went there.
Got a little wet on the way and when I arrived there were a heap of bikes there.
So we chatted for a bit and ate wedges (thanks guys) and with the rain looking set in headed for home... most went through the Tunnel and some to the pub in Ferrymed.
Another ironic thing was on the Christchurch side going down Dyers Pass it was practically dry again.

Had a good ride tonight-that is until the weather turned crap and a slow ride home.
Was good to meet some new CHCH riders and catch up with some of the oldies.Roll on summer and nice warm nights for riding.

Well talk about 4 seasons in one day, nice and fine to start with then about the time we got to Diamond harbour we had a bit of wind, light rain and hail. The weather proceeded to go down hill from there with strong winds (a phone call to a weather station in Lyttelton revealed 20 knot winds gusting to 50 knots).

I split away on the ride back was going to meet you all at the pub but the weather and lack of a decent sleep today had caught up with me.

Was good to get out there with you all again.

I don't think I've ever been so cold and wet, for so long, at any other point in my life. I really got caught out, no weather protection whatsoever - a leaky (read: deluge) jacket, a regular pair of jeans that are about as much protection as a tent in the sea, totally waterlogged boots and gloves. I was beyond cold. In fact, on the way home I knew it was bad when I noticed it wasn't so bad any more - parts of me had stopped aching because all feeling had been lost.

Had a shower when I got home and tried to warm up... by god it hurt. My fingers and toes are still aching even now.

I really need to get some decent gear. My gloves just aren't up to scratch... and wearing shorts and a t-shirt on the way back probably would have been better at least weather protection wise - they wouldn't have held the cold water against my skin.

Other than that, great turnout, good to see some of the usual faces again and a few new ones too. :niceone: I really enjoyed the ride over there - great fun honking along in the evening sunshine... noone predicted it'd turn to a hammering hailstorm, thunder, lightning, and sideways rain after the lovely day we had! One day I might thaw out. :cold:

Great ride!!!

Was pretty nervous when we set out but I took on the advice of "it doesnt matter how fast you go, as long as you get there" and so thats what I did. Pitty we got stuck by the lights at the top of dyers, but much to everyones relief phoenix and I made it in the end. And we made it back which was even better! Figured if I can ride in that, then I aint doing to bad.

Great to meet some new people (was 17 of us there in total) not bad for crap weather!!!!

Thanks Tris for staying with me at the back (like you had a choice :shifty:)

You should have done the wise thing and joined the three of us for a beer at the warm pub at Ferrymead. Thawed us out nice and slowly - no pain :)
But I hear you on the lack of wet weather gear - especially the part from Diamond Harbour to Wheatsheaf Inn was nasty. My fingers lost feeling and I had wet balls by the time we got there - and it wasn't because it was scary. Also, I had a nice facewash since I couldn't close my visor without everything fogging up.

But good to see a nice big turn out tonight. I do however suggest that we try and organise it a bit more in the future with an option for the speed crew and an option for the cruisy crew so that we could stay a bit more together. But then again, what do I know?

Was fun when the hail hit though - rarely have I seen so many go fast bikes travel that slow. Both feet on the ground and very very easy on the corners. :)

Looking forward to next week - perhaps we'll even have nice weather. (oops, jinxed it again)

Had a blast tonight.

And the weather was awesome. To be honest I couldnt wipe the grin off my face when the hail started I was really enjoying myself, until we caught up with the people taking it easy at the front. Got a bit to slow for my taste at that stage but the hail and rain was still fun.

Thanks to Fireliv and co on the way back for stopping to see if I was ok. I'd just stopped to tuck my gloves into my jacket as the rain was running down my arms and into my gloves :( For those wet days I really want heated hand grips now. It was really nice to be able to lean over going along and putting my clutch hand on the top of the engine. No such luck for my right hand though.

Stopped off at the Watershed on the way back into town and spent an hour shooting the breeze with Dave- and Mikkel. Pity about the weird guy that came over and started talking to us. Kept telling us horror stories about what the police do to you when they chase you if your doing a runner (apparently they will touch your rear wheel with their bumper if they can around a corner to knock you off). Heh he sure didnt want us to leave and we sure couldnt get much of a word in to say we were leaving lol but we got away in the end.

All in all a good night and I'll see you guys next week.

You would have to pay a lot of money at a lot of amusement parks and perhaps add a few drugs, to get the same blend of psychedelic sensations as a single night weather ride on an fxr150

I loved that hail aye, i was cracking up in my visor, sitting back watching the lightning and counting the seconds till the thunder.

on the way back I was amazed by the light from the city in the clouds, it was so orangey reddish, was so surreal.

Oh well, it just made the ride more interesting. Great to see so many bikes turn up!! I spent the ride looking after Liv and I reckon she was doing alright. Pity we got stuck at those damn lights at the top of Dyers.

So very true!!

My most memorable ride was back in my days on an FXR150. I was riding around the bays in Wellington in fog so thick I could barely see 5m ahead or behind. It was so sureal. There was no sound other than my bike. It was like the whole world had dissappeared. I'll never forget that

Hey dude!!!!!! :Pokey: It is a fully good excuse. If I had had my bike in time last night I could have made it. And hell, if Mrs Bullet had not just this second gone out the door for some girly shopping(maybe I should throw the bank accounts into lockdown to bring her home), and left me with the kiddy's:baby:, then I would be doing just that.

It's more my partner who needs a holiday, I'm there in a supporting role. She's got her final exam for her chartered accountancy today - capping off seven years of toil. She's done nothing this entire year apart from work, study, and sleep. So yeah, she's definitely earned a break! We head away tomorrow morning somewhere nice and quiet so she can do something quite foreign to her - relax.

My guess is that we'll figure it out when we're at the carpark like the last times... Doesn't seem like people are particularly keen on sticking to a plan.
