What a lot of crap this thread has turned in to.
All that happened was a few, me included jumped the gun at one of the stops to re-group.
THAT"S ALL.
Done, sorted. wont happen again!! :calm:
Will do devauchelle route in future if Im able to make it along
Just an idea.. for the devauchelle route how about a meeting/pick up point in Halswell on the way through? For those of us on that side of town anyway would make sense not to go into town in rush hour traffic only to come back out again if its going past that way every week. Also might give the organised group more of a chance to organise their route... if they're going that way as well, could be the meeting point out of town.

The Devauchelle crew usually go via Dyers and Gebbies pass. Less traffic lights and more corners ;-)

Hey Dave sorry to hear about you accident. Sounds like just one of those things that happen. Will miss you tomorrow night. Get better quickly. How is your bike?????
Ignore the knockers and detractors. There are lots of people who are happy to follow you. I look forward to being TEC to your Lead.
I'm with gloplg, Dave and I had a great ride on sunday. He was going good speeds and was willing to slow down and wait for me after the hills. He was even considerate enough to see if a kid pushing a dirtbike needed help.
Yeah great oppitunity to get the step up bike!!

Sorry to hear about you bike (and willy) Dave, having a zippered willy will give even more cred to your dodgyness "Yep I've got a scar, wanna see it?"
I enjoyed following Dave and the other young guns over Gebbies last week. Good job.
I like 3umphs idea but it is not new, I suggested the same last year and got the same reaction. For the sake of a few minutes seperation it doesn't seem to be a big ask.
Nevermind, catch you all you fellow renegades (or is that re-grenade) tomorrow.

There was a thread in GD where someone was figuring out whether they could fix their bike for less than the cost of the insurance excess.
Although I suppose if the dude had third party it's up to them.
If they do you could try and buy it back for cheap, get it back to roadworthy, and try to get a little extra money for the pocket. But you'd really have to sort out all the costs ahead of time, otherwise it could end up costing you.

Cheers to Hornet and Cruza for the swift escort home from Duvauchelles (I'm still picking bugs out of my teeth), I must have only been a couple of metres shy of hitting reserve before we got back to civilisation and a petrol station.
Poxy little peanut tank of mine.
Good bastards, the both of ya. :niceone:
And it has to be said, BK in rush hour is quite possibly the worst conceivable place for a large group ride to depart from. I know others have said it before, my vote's with them. Somewhere on the outskirts of town would be much easier. Especially for newbies or people that don't know their way around too well.
To the dude on the ZX10 I led on the ensuing wild goose chase around the hills, I hope you enjoyed your ride any way.

Surperb ride everyone. I know my little VL loved it because she was just humming along there and back. Luckly I didnt not suffer the wrath of the bugging because i just hid behind my handy windscreen (best investment i ever made). Couldnt say the same for my mate who had to stop at Tai Tap to clear his visor.
But of course some bugs decided to lay down their lives on some of the chrome. Oh well more polishing to do!

I left a bit earlier heading home to get a headstart on the hill:scooter: and missed most of the bugs by the sounds of it, although that could of been because i was trying to improve aerodynamics, hiding behind the fairing just to keep the wee cbr above 110kmh. Cheers to ben (vfr400) who on the way there grabbed my pillion handle and was pushing me up to speed in the head wind:niceone: Great ride everyone...

Good ride and I enjoyed the ride on my old MKIII.
I do not ride it that often now days, but think I will if I can on WNR's.
As it's rego ran out today I may have to to rego it again soon.
Good to meet you new people and I feel bad that I did not meeting more.
But food was calling and I wanted to leave to be out of the hills as I thought my head light was crap, as it turned out it was fine.
As yes my jacket and helmet are covered with the bugs as well and thought I was going to lose sight of the road though the visor.
When is the last WNR happening?
I guess that is when day light saving finishes, so when is that?
I seen the Red Daytona (3umph ?) at the East Gate corner after I had stopped for some Bourbon, I did wave and tried to keep the Cold can's in my open jacket at the same time.
Well HOT and I got stopped at a Booze Bus in town on the way home, so it seemed right to have a Bourbon after that as I was a good boy at the pub and just had a Coke.:done:

Hehehe, I figured you were at the HOG nationals, havent seen you over a couple of WNRs. Will be great to catch up next Wed. I should be there too.
I'm getting these little spots on the chrome on my muffler which is a bit of a pain to take off. I think it is the excess grease flicking off my chain. Might try the slightly more abrasive autosol to see if i can bring it back to its "can be seen from space" shinyness. Polishing wheels is hard too.
Right better continue polishing then ;)

If anyone's interested, 84 non blue cars and 34 blue cars travelled along the top section of Dyer's Pass Rd (Christchurch side) between 18:04 and 19:09 this evening.
There were also 2 Suzuki motorcycles and 7 non Suzuki motorcycles.
And GammaGuy has a very loud RG.
Also, it is very hard to flick a pebble from on side of the road to the other without it bouncing first.
My RG has the colours red, white, orange, yellow, black, blue, silver, purple, and darker purple on it.
And Dave from the AA tow company (lowtow or something I think) is a good guy.
If anybody requires proof, there is a tally etched into one section of the white rail. Ignore the brown one, I dropped that after I realised I had keys.

D: The piston was rooted and so he did a rebore, new piston and rings etc.
A circlip had popped off and caused havoc.
Well the thing this time is that I know EXACTLY what's wrong.
The thing is that the clutch is stuck IN. So it's permanently in neutral as I can't get the cable to release. The bike runs mint, nothing wrong with it, I can change gears and stuff but I can't actually go anywhere, because the clutch is in. AA dude seemed to think the cable had seized up.
So everything is going, it's just the middleman who's doing it.
So I got it towed to Duane's, left it out there overnight, and I'm gonna give him a ring to explain the situation in about ten minutes. It was going in there today for new brake pads anyway, so they'll just be getting it a bit earlier.
The hilariously painful side of the situation is that I went out riding yesterday to get away from my family for a bit, so I headed to Charteris bay to just lax out for a bit. 2 hours up Dyer's Pass though wasn't quite what I had in mind
Edit: Possibly add a new front disc and spark plug to that order, just got off the phone. At least it didn't get it stolen, woohoo!

cause it'd take too long to get there + the average time we spend at a pub + the ride home.
as it is you wont get home from greta until 10:30ish maybe later.
also the route contains a lot of turn offs and junctions, on such a newbie friendly ride it's best to keep those to a minimum, especially that part of chch where every single long straight looks exactly the same as another.
at least those are the reasons I decided not to go that way
still waiting to hear about my bike....withdrawal symptoms...

Already have the clutch cable fixed, it had seized up so he just made a new one so that's all good. Need a new front brake disk though, woop de doo. 2 weeks ex Japan and lots of money :buggerd:
Location pending I think I might come along this time, but as I'm only using my rear brake except for emergencies I'll gladly go TEC or at least just ride at the back of the pack. I'm just that kind of a nice guy.

If you decide to do the Waikari Scargill Valley Gretta Pub route,
be aware
from the Scargill turn off , over the railway to the top of the hill past the golf course they have resurfaced the road,
So there is some loose chip and NO white lines.
Irode it yesterday no problems, but would advise larger following distances due to the loose chip.
Let me know tomorrow night if this is a go, I will tell the Publican that she can expect some hungry buggers.

We seen and heard you guys ride through.
Our bikes were parked in the middle of the car park behind the old hitching post, I think that there was a car in the way for you to see our bikes.
We also had a great ride and meal.
And did the bug culling on the way home.:whocares:
It was interesting to see the bugs hover above the white lines, like they were a curtain.
It was a barrier that you did not want to cross or ride through on both sides of the road.
We must have ridden at just the right time, when the light was just right and no wind. (later we got the wind)
Would have made a right picture.

Would it be possible to do a winter WEC on a case by case basis if the weather is OK?
The front motor mount on my scoot is broken at the moment, I am waiting for the courier to deliver another one. Its an easy 4 bolt low cost fix, but the part has not turned up yet.
On my scoot the swing arm bolts onto the motor and the motor is supported by 2 rubber mounts at the back and one at the front. If you do a lot of two up hard riding the front motor mount rubber fails over time. The motor doesn't come out or anything like that it just vibrates a bit more and you loose a bit of swing arm alignment.
One of my old school buddies (and best man at my wedding) has just brought himself a BMW R1100 RS, kind of hoping to bring him along on a few rides to get him used to riding again.

Well. Not much I can really say about that.
Thank you so much to everybody who pulled over and who helped get me sorted. Words can seriously not express my gratitude right now, I'm just amazed. All of you are awesome.
I did get home safely, better than that in the comfort of Flip's truck, next to Ted his obedient and awesome dog. While all of you poor fools were outside on your so called "motorbikes" I was sitting down comfortably and with a seatbelt! Hah! Feel sorry for me? I feel sorry for you!
But again seriously thank you, and Duane's will be getting a phone call tomorrow morning.
For anyone not in the know, my front brake caliper came clean off after I've just spent the last couple of weeks getting a new disc and pads. This was just outside Teddington, I heard a small clunk, a big clunk, a scrape, and then I had no front brake. Naturally, I pulled over, swore numerous times, and waved my arms frantically in the air. You know, all those reasonable, thought out reactions.
Now if you'll all excuse me I'm going to bed. Thank you all again, hope I can give you beer or something sometime.

You know, all those reasonable, thought out reactions.
....ho....ly....shit....glad to hear you're alright...

McW I think all of us in WNR were extremely lucky not to loose you. The only casualty last night was your laundry!!!!
Had it been worse the police would have been involved and the brake caliper floating in the breeze would have had THEM KKKnocking very loudly on the door of your mechanical person.
Brake calipers are designed NOT come off our bikes!!!!!!!!!!!! I think your mechanical person has some serious questions to answer about the quality or lack of his work. :nono::spanking:
I think we all deserve the highest quality of mechanical service. Our lives depend on our bikes being roadworthy!!!!!!!

So we gave Duane a call this morning, and he was NOT pleased about it.
Long story short, he gave one of his boys a kick up the ass, the bike is fixed after leaving it out for him this morning, and he feels very strongly that we were lucky it was nothing worse.
Any other questions just ask.
And I'd like to make it very clear that I hold nothing against Duane and his business, that I will still be relying on him as my mechanic and that I still hold the utmost faith in him and the quality of his work.
I hope none of you hold it against him, as I certainly don't, and by the sound of it after this, this will NEVER happen again, to anyone, ever, at his workshop.
Off for a blat now. Weather's bloody amazing.

Hey, I was at Duanes this morning and to say he was fuming would be an understatement.:mad:
I recommended McWild to Duane because I feel Duane is one of, if not the best motorcycle mechanic in the south island, its because of his many years of experience and excellent service he is so highly respected and his service is always excellent and i will always use him.
Glad you got it all sorted out.

Very pleased you got it sorted McW. How was your ride???? I hope we will be seeing you next WNR!!!
I understand the next WNR is the Summit Road starting from Sumner.
I love riding the Summit Road and would like us to be up there more often, however with low sun angles at this time of the year we could have a lot of sunstrike. Combined with the shear drops on a lot of the corners I'm rather concerned about the safety aspect. Even starting from Gebbies there is some sunstrike.
As an aged rider I can cope with shear drops, or sunstrike, but not both at the same time.
I would like to see an alternate ride unless we have total cloud cover.
What think the rest of WNR?????????

So tomorrow at 10.00 at the PEG (the Belfast tavern just before the northern motorway starts.) view to leave at 10.30. Head north to amberley regroup there take the back road back to ashley out to Loburn and the Ashley gorge. Lunch in Oxford at Cafe 54 (?) Those who want to can then head out to Hororata to visit the hogs at the rally and anyone who doesn't want to can make their own way home!!...
