Sweet, just making sure there would be a bed if we turned up on saturday. She's not super keen at the moment but I'm sure that will change once she recovers from the weekend.

We could always tent it if need be, particularly if someone that's taking a car could cart some gear for us *not very subtle hint*

Oh christ, there's another one of you :eek:Nothing like D, possibly much much worse

I have a map, I know where to go, now to sort some new rubber for the bike....

As far as beds go, all I can sugest is to P/M Shrek however remember it is 1st in 1st served so best people pack a tent just in case.

freight transport... Those that would like to off load any shit then I am able to transport it over, this means those that want I can take that tent that may or may not be needed and food that needs to be kept cold. Please p/m me if you would like me to drag any shit over.

there is a bar in the dance hall next to the kitchen block.

if you dont want to bring a tent, there is still a tin roof over the old sawmill, after the night events a corner of that will keep the dew off you. The alcahole will stop you freezin

For those that are new to the tradition of the south island rally, heres how it began.

By 2006 the south island KB community had built up such a repore with each other that they decided they should all meet up and the place was to be Otematata, a old farming lodge of several cabins, lounge and kitchen was just what was called for. With a BBQ booze and a Ipod with speakers the night was briliant. The attendees (aprox 18) were and are the base of each s/i kb rally to come. A group ride was sorted on departure to head into Mt Cook, most with hangovers and a few claiming they were fine, so we decided we should do this again the next year.

2007 saw the Staging Post on the east coast north of chch a perfect place, with a few more newcomers keen to see what the fuss was about. After the meet up at the post, all enjoyed a day ride to Kaikoura and back to the post where a pig on a spit was toasted and the Ipod being up graded to a cheap boom box and we all have very little memory of the end results.

2008 danseys Pass, with even a few more newbees joining in. Camp KB was the Danseys camping ground, a brilliant wee spot in central south island. The day ride was out to the east coast and back where once again... rather non-rememberable night went off again with A BBQ and bon fire and no regrets.

2009... well yet to happen but the way I see it there will be a few extra riders joining in with the faithful crew from 06, the day ride being a blast to blackball... ohhh shit I hate to think what the night will bring. Enjoy all.

Thanks for the history lesson, I'm in, with the girlie along for the ride. Probably aiming to meet up with y'all at Blackball for lunch. Quick edit: What's the story with food, I assume it's a BYO affair and fight over the kitchen?

As far as beds go, all I can sugest is to P/M Shrek however remember it is 1st in 1st served so best people pack a tent just in case.'tis why I was asking, seeing as I'll be heading over on saturday, and anyway I'm usually late getting anywhere

Plenty of alcohol as insect repellant if you're sleeping outside I would think, otherwise you'll be sandfly fodder for the night.

Time to subscibe to this thread, me's be there, that will be singular, but then I do have other mates inside me head that wont go away.
As for drink...who knows what will bring there, 1st year was a few beers and rtd's, 2nd year was those hot damn 12% super fuck woodstocks... and I have not forgotton the bourban spikers that turned them in to grunty little tins.
The 3rd I took a bottle of jim and some rum, and mixed them on the Fri.... no no that was be bad.

This year I might choose healthy.... do rabbit and eat carrots, laced with 1080, that's sure gotta lay ya on ya back.... shum on!!!

If I can get sorted, I will bring kebabs, and some other stuff to share on the BBQ..... there is a BBQ??? if not, then raw chicken could do the same as that 1080 stuff.... wooo hooo

Dont worry to much about the numbers regestered as for some reason it often automaticly regesters ya, last year there were about 60 regestered to but up to 10 never showed.

Having said that those that are going have you regestered? http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=2007&day=2009-12-12&

As there seems to be a number of people wanting to come along via Lewis Pass on the Friday I figured a post with “The Plan” needed to be made. So here it is …

The route …
Woodend > Lewis Pass > Murchison for lunch = 268km
From Murchison …
Plan A – Murchison > Upper Buller Gorge > Inangahua > Reefton > Kopara = 173km Plan A (http://maps.google.co.nz/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Murchison&daddr=Reefton+to:Kopara&geocode=FSEugv0dE4pFCinnp1glRtE6bTEAu42Di4Qc_g%3BF d9fff0d8ms-Cinz0r2JaV0lbTGqHFwpPvLutg%3B&hl=en&mra=ls&sll=-41.94088,172.083105&sspn=0.60064,1.058807&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=9)

Plan B – Murchison > Upper and Lower Buller Gorge > down the coast > Kopara = 246km Plan B (http://maps.google.co.nz/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Murchison&daddr=inangahua+to:punakaiki+to:ngahere+to:kopara&hl=en&geocode=&mra=ls&sll=-41.244772,172.617188&sspn=38.652776,67.763672&ie=UTF8&ll=-42.177653,171.971741&spn=1.196811,2.117615&t=h&z=9)

Plan A or Plan B would be decided on at Murchison.

1. 0800 - meet at Woodend across the road from the BP station.
2. 0830 SHARP - leave from Woodend, if you're not there then it's up to you to catch up.
3. I’m not stopping every 5 minutes for a stretch, smoke, piss, etc.
4. 1st stop will be a quick one at Springs Junction for fuel only, for those that don't have the range to make it to Murchison in one hit. Woodend to Springs Junction is 183km. I’ll stop and wait, but will be filling up at Murchison myself.
5. Murchison is 85km after Springs Junction and is the stop for food, drink, talking shit, etc. We should be there by 12ish. I'll be going to Beechwoods Cafe for a feed and a coffee.
6. The reasons for the above are that I actually want to get there at a reasonable time, and too many stops can really eat into the time. The idea is to go at a pace that 90% of the group will be happy with – 100 > 120kph.
7. If you want to tear off at light speed – no problem, go for it, we all want to have fun, so feel free to do your own thing.
8. If you want to go slow – no problem, go for it, we all want to have fun, so feel free to do your own thing. All I ask is that you let others know so that we don’t worry about where the fuck you are when we stop.
9. If you want to peel off at some point on some other route – no problem, go for it, we all want to have fun, so feel free to do your own thing. All I ask is that you let others know so that we don’t worry about where the fuck you are when we stop.
10. Yes, I can be an anal cunt :D but I hate doing group rides where no one knows what the fuck’s going on and we’re stopping all the time for Joe or Jane Bloggs  :wait: This way, everyone knows the plan, but everyone is still free to do their own thing :ride:

If you want to come along, just be at Woodend and ready to leave by 0830.

Out of towners – if you want to crash at my place Thursday night, just PM me.

Any questions, just ask.

Hello Guymeister,
Its sort of a mixed affair.
Some will bring purely for themselves, but others will bring enough to spread around & share. Think of something you can BBQ or bake in the kitchen, boil in a pot etc. If there's leftovers share it.
Remember that for the 2 nighters you'll need enuf for 2 breakfasts & 2 evening meals. :apumpin:

Ive got an iPod portable stereo thing that does pretty well so I'll be bringing that to. Also I can put 38gig worth of music on a portable harddrive and bring that to if you will have your laptop.
If people bring their mp3 players then you can dump whatever onto the laptop, I'll bring the speakers and you can load it up and set it going.

Probably don't need 38Gb of music though, unless you're planning on staying for 3 weeks

I'd suggest an early Friday AM start, with an early PM arrival at camp

And a later lunch 1.00pm for Blackball would give us a dry run back to camp!

Good call, been watching just that site with a jaundiced eye. It was quite accurate for the BM. The wife has stated she is not at all keen on ending up in a ditch (like Clinton)with metalware to match Phaedrus! Guess it may be a solo trip if no drastic improvement.

I will be waiting for the mob at Waikari ,
Getting wet I guess, is just a cost of enjoying the whole thing.
I also watch that site for the weather too.
So it will be up to our road captain to ensure that we have a good run
And to us following to ride well within the conditions at a safe pace.
I may take the route from Springs Junction to Gr instead of the longer route via Murch.
As DD says, dont want to end up in the ditch.

whats there to be jealous about,
ok, we have the best biker roads,

and the best party people to ride with,
not as much traffic,
not as many idiot cagers,
lots of sheep.
