Bike servicing, rebuilding, restoring, manuals, etc..

  1. Wellington Motorcycle - Poor Service

    Now I appreciate that owning a bike and servicing it is not a cheap exercise. This I was and am prepared for… However, when you are given a total quote on two separate occasions you expect that to be the cost. On each I was told the total cost would be $395(ish), not the fricking $592.43 I have just bloody paid.

    My baby has just had its 12,000k service. I have got home and am still fuming! Not only has the ‘required work’ (ref service manual in front of me), not been done, but that ...
  2. Thur 7th : Gremlin by name, gremlin by nature - what's in a name?

    Yet again my fine person of quality that peruses the personal volumes of memoirs that make up the stock within KiwiBiker, I bid you welcome and I hope you are well rested. I find the time to wax lyrical on my rides and I do so appreciate the time and effort that you deign to actually dabble on my diadems of biking discernment.

    This day once again found me at odd sorts, I had already commenced a full day of housebound chores involving the clearance of unwanted vegetative matter from ...

  4. What a rush

    Yesterday I had the best day riding at Kaitoke, running a second and first in the points races.

    I ran a rear slick for the first time, which what I needed to step it up. My gear changer is knackered and I could have run the rear tyre with little more pressure or it's not going to last. I am now really looking forward to seeing what the new engine's performance will be like.

    It was also great to see Wanisami (my RG50 bucket) out again. I'm about to swap out it's engine ...
  5. 2008 Suzuki Bandit GSF650 SK7 vs GSF1250 SK7

    Well last week a guy at work mentioned he wanted an 'as new' original tail section to replace the tail tidy on his GSF1250... It just happened that I was looking for a tail tidy for my GSF650.

    Long story short we paired the bikes up in the work garage at lunch time, with rulers and sharp eyes we measured and compared the bikes. A as fate would have it there are no physical components that are different including the frame and sub structure that would have ...
  6. Another one starts to breath again.

    Well friends,
    I have another 1985 GSXR400 coming back to life;
    The engine's mounted and running, fairings on, accessories work and a couple more things and she can be ridden. She looks like she was raced at some point due to some modifications;

    Running a 17 inch instead of an 18 inch rear wheel.

    The exhaust is from god knows what with balancing pipes between each of the header pipes and a different muffler.

    The air intake has been changed ...

  8. Radiator protector

    Today saw me making a radiator protector for my baby. I contemplated purchasing the custom made mesh from either ripco or supercheap ($79.99), however each option was far too expensive and far more material than I needed.

    I had read on a forum here that the Wharehouse had mesh bins ($9.99) and that they served the purpose. So ever the tight arse, I purchased said black bin then went about fashioning a custom radiator protector. One coffee and two ciggis later I stepped back ...
