General Bike Ravings

Biker culture, politics and general issues.

  1. Back in Black

    I had my first ride in 5 months this week.....talk about aprehensive Trev!!

    On 5th May I had a rather nasty accident that wrote-off the old bike thanks to a brief encounter with some black ice. I was extremely lucky to come out pretty much unscathed...at least on the face of it with no blood and no breaks, but it did arouse an old bike injury whereby a ruptured disc caused a bit of sciatica in my right leg. That in itself was pretty minor, but combined with a good dose of post-accident ...
  2. Almost there ...

    Not long until it's done and I can ride it. I'm really looking forward to the end of this month.

    I got a message saying my bike was back together and running!! After some hurried organisation I was all set to travel down to Wellington, put the bike on the dyno then take it up to New Plymouth to sort the suspension out.

    Originally my wife was going to go with me and make a trip of it so I'd organised to stay with Pete McDonald. That way she could ...
  3. What a long road of Prep III

    10.30 the night before a meet and the scramble to prep the bikes and load up is finally over.

    Ended up swapping the fairing, tank and seat on Ikasu with Wanisami to tidy her up. I found an RG50 fairing which I put on Wanisami for shits and giggles and with the longer seat, number boards and tank she looks like a classic retro bucket.paint job even works.

    Oh well off to laa laa land before a delightful 5.45am start.

    I'll post some photos as soon as I ...
  4. What a long road of Prep II

    As always buckets are being pulled apart and rebuilt;

    ISSHAU; tyres fitted, sump plug wired but have changed the mudguard to a longer one. Biker Bee had a great time sticking decals and her numbers on to the bike

    ZENSEN; Parts being pulled off and paint job touched up. Biker Bee tried to ride her but the bike really is to heavy for her and she fell over so we'll probably use Isshau for the enduro. Have found a front fairing and new race seat for her, which I'll be getting ...
  5. 1. Biker Blog! How original.

    SO. First entry. The day I signed up to Kiwibiker and the day after I got my class 6 learner licence.
    On friday (7th sep, 2012) I got my Basic Handling Skills certificate (BHS) from Warren Joyce who is a very good teacher, I would highly recommend him to anyone else. Seeing as he is the only BHS instructor in Dunedin I figured I better get my cert from him. The price was a bit steep though; I paid for a brief instructor lesson (seeing as though my skills on a bike were limited to off-road ...
  6. What a long road of Prep

    Biker Bee and myself have feverishly prepping our stable of buckets, getting ready for the next KoK. We need to make the next meeting in Sept though to give the bikes and good shake down. here's how they stand;

    IKASU ("Old but cool"), RX125 powered RG50 chassis, mid repairs, looking at transplanting engine into another frame.

    WANISAMI ("Sword"), RG50, all ready to go. If anyone wants to have a turn at buckets PM me.

    ZENSEN ("Fight the good fight"), CBR150, ...
  7. Fitting LEDs and Zumo 660 (26/05/2012)

    After what can only be described as the ultimate procrastination I finally got around to installing the replacement LED strips on my BMW.

    GiJoe and I had tried to fit them last year and ended up with blown/broken LEDs all round. We presumed somehow the controller failed so I had to order new strips. They arrived earlier in the year but I had been doing other things so they sat waiting.

    Of course such an install requires some extra spannering hands, so off to GiJoe again ...

  8. Maidstone Yamaha: A very dodgy bike shop

    My Father took his Kawasaki ZL400 to Maidstone Yamaha and asked them to sell it on behalf-of. After months without a sale I went in to the shop interested in buying a used cruiser myself, they never mentioned my father’s bike saying they had nothing in the cruiser line.
    I informed my father and he went in to find out why it was not selling and was told it wouldn’t sell that he should try Trade Me.
    As he was getting ready to take it away he noticed the clutch cover had a ...
