  3. steampunk inspired veteran build

Have been working on the carb, a brand new Keihin 26mm, to make it appear rather more 'retro steampunk'
First I added a brass bellmouth made from a cut down brass vase & secured it with some holed brass strap made into a sort of hoseclamp
Then I took an old brass fuel cap & drilled/tapped it to take a modded airline fitting then glued it to the original carb top
Its OD was a little big so then I made a copper flared flange & riveted it on
Lastly I replaced the idle screw ...

  4. My NC 30 so far: buying.

Well I thought I'd write up a series on how I got my bike so I can have a look back and help someone with all of the mistakes I've made so far with this bike

First of all I was having a look on trade me at NC 30s because I had read a lot about them. So far I had gathered they were relatively reliable and fast enough for me (not looking for 600 fast). A long with "awesome" handling these seemed the ticked and after test riding one for the curiosity I was hooked. What took my ...

  5. steampunk inspired veteran bike build

Well, been very busy cutting & welding today, have extended the frame backbone 4" & added another longer under tank tube.
We recently visited Timaru & I was quite taken with their park bench designs ,as youll see that was the inspiration for the front frame tube.....
Have also decided to make a set of springer forks for now, maybe Ill do a funky eliptical sprung front end later on

  6. steampunk inspired veteran build

The motor parts have finally arrived
Its a stripped down 16hp 500cc Briggs & Stratton V-twin, the sort of motor used in ride on mowers /golf carts /wood chippers etc
Theres quite a handsome motor under all those plastic & metal cooling shrouds, log manifold & ugly exhaust setup. It reminds me of a Weslake or Godden speedway donk
Ill be doing a lot of work on it including making a new copper inlet manifold , shaving the finns off the exposed bacon slicer flywheel, making another ...

  7. Rothmans Honda NSR300R SP

Words can not describe how awesome my weekend was.
Picked up my bike from the mechanic on Friday afternoon, spent a few hours removing the rear seat pad, rear foot pegs and carving out the fairing to fit around the spark plug cap and new spannys.
Took her for a bit of a ride around town, clocked up maybe 50 odd kms.
Saturday came the fun. Caught up with imdying and oab, and the three of us went for a blast to Little River.
My bike performed pretty much perfectly.

  8. Finally!!!

    The big day finally arrived!!

I woke up at 5:00am, probably cos I was excited that I was finally getting my bike to the track. I stayed in bed rather than getting up cos it's just wrong to be getting out of bed when it's still dark. Eventually my alarm went off, I turned it off and didn't move. It's bloody cold at 5:45am

Dragging my arse out of bed I climbed into some clothes, picked up the 4 necessaries (keys, wallet, phone and glasses) and headed out into the fricken ...
