  1. Wind Farm & Wild Oats

Today was a combined road and gravel Ulysses Ride and as seems to be the norm lately, the weather forecast was crappy right up until the day before, then it looked like it would hold off until this evening.

I checked the tyres and left home at 0905, going via J’ville to fill-up the fuel and tyres. It was after 0930 by the time I got away from there and headed down the gorge for Brown Owl with the weather a cool 9° and overcast. The roads were dry but it was looking a bit grim on the ...

  2. Riding in the fog

For the first time in ages the North Shore of Auckland was enveloped in a fog for the entire day (Saturday 27/6/2009).

I had to do a job for work early in the morning (5am, ahhhh), then I helped a friend shift. Next decided it was time for a nap.
When I woke back up around 4pm the fog was still about, so decided it would be good to take the bike out.
Visibility was limited, so I decided to wear a high-viz vest. It is always good when you come back from a ride with ...

  3. Progress...

I have now got two matching E barrels. They have been bored to match the RZ350 pistons I have. Still working on port timings. I also have two cranks on the way - a C and an E.

Still gathering info from wherever I can. One tip I have been given is to use RD250E conrods. EDIT: this has now been suggested as a bad idea - a lot of work for no real gain. The longer stroke of the RD400 conrod is better for a few reasons whereas the RD250E is good for only one reason.

  4. To Robert Taylor and other MNZ bashers

I'm always amused when shallow thinkers lose debates:
Inevitably all they have left is childish ad hominem and red herrings.

Thanks for that admission of loss.

To all those who pm'd encouraging me and supporting the many valid points raised; you were the winners here too. By exposing the lack of logical argument: the unspoken agendas become transparent.

Reminds me of those coppers running from the speed debate: fuckin hilarious!

  5. Next new bike purchase.

I'm looking over all the new bikes available. I've test ridden dozens...nothing really does it for me.....seems each has its compromises....

So far at the top is the Suzuki M90....its fun but it doesn't feel right with its long reach and feet out approach.....could be a close to perfect bike with different handlebars and foot controls.

  6. Week 11 in Germany - Bavaria

    25 June 2009

Ah, Bavaria! Where the skies are blue, the men wear Lederhosen and the pretzels are abundant… Well, the weather did not play its part very well, but other than that last weekend’s trip to see my host family was very successful. And very catholic. Actually, I met a bishop, visited three churches and was given a Madonna figurine by a woman in a souvineer shop. Oh, and a random man on the train professed his undying love for me. So it was an interesting trip…

  7. Road to Erzbergrodeo

We started off eager to check out this years Erzbergrodeo but had a long road ahead of us. I decided to opt for our Honda Transalp for this trip while my riding friend took his African Twin.
We headed to Southern Bohemia, making our way near to Cesky Krumlov. On the road we were luck to see some amazing Czech castles.
