  1. Riding around Europe Post 8:Resting in Bol Nuevo

I didn't realise how much the daily joy of riding the bike had taken out of me. My first few days at my friend's home in Bol Nuevo were spent sleeping 10 hours a day. In addition, after having being solo for so long , it was hard to take in and concentrate on the many different conversations going on.
Glyn and Jan were lovely hosts. They had visited this part of Spain for over 30 years and moved permanently here in 2000. They bought the shell of their house and Glyn frustrated ...

  2. Hip hip hooray for me

    Got the 1st for Motorad B Grade and a 3rd for King of Kaitoke and to top this off I managed a not last and not lapped A Grade race on a very wet track;

The day started with my daughter cross-threading one of the front caliper bolts while helping me change to wets. Luckily we found another bolt, after a few words were spoken under my breath.

Practice race; Started on pole and got a nice clean run.

First points race; Started on pole (as Mark hadn't ...

  4. We’re Ri-iding in the Rain, We’re……!

The weather forecast was pretty crappy for today but the Ulysses Club still had a ride on…..well at least the Wgtn Branch did…..well…..6 Wgtn members went riding.

The programmed ride was up Route 52 to Pongaroa, then out to Pahiatua for lunch but after arriving at Brown Owl in marginal conditions, we decided to play it by ear and see what the weather dealt us, so with that in mind, Ken led out over the Rimutakas and I bought up the rear.

After a sedate ride over the ...

    Fush and Chups

In most large European cities the desire for fish and chips to sate one’s homesickness is hopeless. Spaghetti, pizza, Döner and Bratwurst abound, but greasy seafood is off the menu. Not so in Berlin, as I discovered after stumbling across ‘Lindsay’s’, a kiwi themed restaurant formally known as ‘AoTeaRoa’.

Located on the outskirts of Berlin in the suburb of Friedrichshain, it is quite a walk to the restaurant and its associated hostel. The pastel floral ...

  7. Riding around Europe Post 7 : Lisbon to Granada

I spent four days in Lisbon. I had arranged to meet a friend's daughter, the short but perfectly formed Ms Pinky . I arrived early so spent two nights in a campsite on the northern side of Lisbon, moving into a central hostel for the last two nights.
Ms Pinky is a real character. She had spent two years wandering the world, then decided she should go back to NZ and try to put down some roots, but the restlessness remained and she is off wandering again. Carrying a backpack ...

  8. Brass Monkey - ride report

So having passed my full licence I decided to treat myself and take my ass down to the Brass Monkey (done it last year as a pillion) so having the XJ750 sitting in the garage decided it would be great to give him a good run and catch up with some friends.

So the week before the Brass I got the bike organised, oil change, new battery and got him all ready. So the plan was to leave at 10am and tootle on down to Alexandra and stay with a friend.

    The journey down ...
