Just act of your signature, expect the unexpected... Try to anticpate possible situations... Sounds like you have had a few freak accidents... But dont let those put you off... When you ride a bike in the city you will always have near misses everyday... if you have a near miss, thats not a bad thing... It means you did your job, and didnt get taken out...

Stick with it! You know its not the same in a cage. The wind was urmm.... interesting yesterday. One place that I have for really bad lately is Webb St Taranaki ST Corner, since they built that appartment block on the corner is a real wind tunnel . Ive nearly gone over a few times sitting at the light there.
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.

I vote for the cheapest indicators possible, and possibly an alternative mounting solution - somewhere not in the "dropping" line. Otherwise don't ride in adverse weather conditions. Failing that, go faster. Seriously. Rely on physics to keep you upright. You're then less likely to fall over, particularly while cornering.

That weather yesterday was pretty special. Sadly it seems to be common at the moment. Roll on summer, tyres are getting too square!

the physics is good advise....a motorbike is like a gyroscope, or a spinning top...the faster it goes, the more stable it is. was a bit gusty here in wangas yesterday, with thunder and lightening.

glad to hear you had no bodily damage to yourself though...thats always a plus. i do suggest you consider what time you leave for work, the route you take and how much traffic is likely to about at the time [since moving is likely impossible!] like, my shift starts at 8am, and again at 3pm....meaning i have to leave about 20mins prior to avoid the rush hour traffic. [workers and school kids] if its possible to leave earlier to avoid the block up, it might be worth thinking about. which way was the wind blowing, what what direction was the corner, as you said you didnt lean. with wind i tend to lean no matter what, and simply adjust it to fit right....like, foxton strait i sometimes have to angle the bike away from the corner to allow for the wind.

Unfortunately in my 1 year of riding I have managed to write off one bike (1 year ago last week) then I got my new bike and 2 weeks later and was blown into a grass bank in the Wairarapa. I finally got my confidence back after that spill but have since had a car in front of me hit a car that changed lanes on top of it, that car somehow managed to bounce back and hit my bike even though I had stopped a good 2 or so metres behind because I had seen what was going to happen. I have had a taxi driver open its door on me on a skinny road while a 4WD was coming straight for me so I hit the taxi door. I have had an old man who had wandered of from his resthome walk out in front of my bike at night and I hit him and only narrowly avoided his head. But manged to break his pelvis and arm... I have had a 4WD change lanes right on top of me and I had to ride up onto the footpath to avoid being crushed. I cant even remember the amount of times I have manged to stop so that I didnt crash into a car pulling out infront of me or changing lanes on top of me... Bleh, I may just be being emotional but to be honest Im wondering if these are all just signs that I should not be on a bike...

Nay , don't let it get to you. That sort of thing happens to everyone - well, maybe not the getting blown off bit, cos /me is a fat prick, and von Klunken would take a typhoon to move. But the rest is just part of life's rich tapestry when you're abiker ('cept maybe bowling old men).

You get used to it after a while , don't even think about it . just "Pratt, I knew you were going to do that", round over and carry on.

Maybe get a heavier bike? I rather like heavy bikes m'self, they come into their own when the conditions pack up. Sort of -relentless- like.

That's what we are here for to keep the biker family together to have fun.

I've been impressed that you've always been so enthusiastic when I've seen you, wouldn't want to see that go missing would I.

Velox are you there somewhere? Are you going to set up another lunch soon so we can keep the stories flowing? Next week or week after?

Str8 one place we've been lately with the Friday crew for lunch is Stanley Rd on Willeston St corner opposite BNZ - its cheap and seems to have plenty of room and is closer to where you work. I wouldn't mind going there again (we celebrated LB's birthday there) but for those into beer its not a pub so may not meet all requirements.
    Cheers

    Merv
