That would make driving fun wouldn't it. Imagine if they fitted them to our bikes. A good selling point for a new YZF-R1. $24k to do 100 kph![]()
RIP Phil (Pinky) SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMOND.
Oh, so now drivers can spend even least time thinking about driving while behind the wheel. Cool.
Retards...
Whats the point if the driver just has to push a button to override it? Just one more thing to be distracted by.

Nonono, this is PERFECT.
Maybe they'll realise that speeding isn't the primary cause after all when speed limited cars still end up crashing at the same rate.
True
Say they were to have 2 or 3 more fatalities where speed limiter has been installed, surely this would point to speed NOT being a determining factor in road accidents and saving lives."We believe this technology could have the potential to save lives which is why we're carrying out this very important trial. The technology could also help motorists avoid speeding fines.
In fact, it may indeed bring out the hypothesis that they have been looking at the wrong direction and should instead trial a period with no speed limit to see if there is any change in the trend.
Good luck NSW.
P.S.
But of course the spindoctors in the government would most likely try to shift the blame from the speed limiters to external factors in the crashes.

Any independant study has proved speeding per se is not the major cause of crashes (generally round 8%). Its scary they believe their own propaganda!. It would be great as you say to show them the crash rate will remain largely unaltered. However if its able to be overridden and not retrofitted it just will never happen. And as for losing all that revenue? It really would be a case of putting your money where your mouth is!

As a blanket device fitted to all cars I'd say it's a no no. But it could be imposed say on learner drivers for a given time or used by the courts for recidivist speedsters etc.
But on the other hand if the device has a manual over ride what's the point?

Dont be fooled. The manual overide is a means of pacification so as to get the idea off the ground and "accepted" by the "willing" public. Once it becomes accepted the manual overide will be removed. Remember the promises when speed cameras were first introduced to NZ...fixed and visible and only a small percentage of the top offenders ticketed...yeah right.
I follow the 50/50/90 rule.
Anytime I have a 50/50 chance of getting it right there is a 90% probability I will get it wrong
Dialing in cruise control on a vehicle fitted with one does take away some of the 'angst' of country driving.
Throttle use is pretty important to controlling a motorcycle though. The GPS cutting it out could be not a good look.
It's when 'compulsory' is used near a concept that Ixion starts to steam.
Typical NSW Cop behaviour...power-possessed beings. I grew up in NSW and for us the cops there are Nazi's...infamously unreasonable, an embarrassment to the populace. Certainly in my day they were regarded as scum....living 10 years in America, it was a shock to see cops held in some reasonable regard and consequently acting like human beings.
NSW police also have a tremendous hold on State Governments of all colours. Their policy for years has been to:
a. Attribute an accident to speed, even when its not. The classic case cited is a car stopped at a red light being run into by the following car who didn't see the light or them...police said this accident was due to speed because they were going too fast to stop when they realized there was a car stopped in front of them!
b. ....and consequently, have a policy of constantly reducing speed, based upon the high proportion of accidents where speed was a factor.
I was in Sydney on the weekend...the 80kph crawl on the expressways around town is enough to drive you to drink.
BTW, the Vickswegian feds aren't much better...some of you may remember the incident some years ago with the cops leading/escorting a group of bikes thru Melbourne on the way to the GP, then the riders getting tickets for 3mph over. Nice.

...the older I get, the faster I was...
This shit makes me sick!
people are going to die anyway! why the hell do they think they need to control peoples lives like this? right what even if it worked and saved 3 people are they going to put a net up under all the coconut trees to stop them killing people? And Detooth sharks? and put water wings on all people who go swimming?
Bloody pollies!
