Took the train home tonight

Rode to work this morning, took the train home tonight. Why? Because some tosser reversed into my VL1500 Intruder when it was parked right in the middle of my company cage size parking. Guy did a runner but was seen by someone in the car park who had the sense to get the cages reg.

The guy hit the Intruder directly from the front and knocked it backward about 40cm. Amazingly it did not fall off the side stand. The front mudguard is pretty stuffed, had to pull it off the rim to move the bike. The cast iron moulding on the fork that holds the guard in place had also been sheared off with the force. That is the damage I could see, what worries me is the damage that I couldn’t see. I phoned my insurance guys and organised Haldane’s to send a van over to pick the bike up as I didn’t want to ride the bike not knowing what other damage might have been done.

The bike was in first gear when it was smacked, so I know the rear wheel did not roll back. Should I be worried about damage to the shaft? I have asked Haldane’s to check the geometry out but is there anything else I should be looking for?

Oh, by the way, the scrotum fungus who did the runner came back two and a half hours later to apologise and give me the details of his insurance policy.

Sorry to hear! Checked your profile, that's a nice bike! Certainly get the driveline checked. The VL's are quite strong, but not sure if any damage could be done to the gearbox by a shunt like that.

What a bastard! have the shaft splines checked for sure, and the gearbox, selectors too for that matter.
Glad the guy came back and did the right thing but what a wanker.
Just one question, what train goes to the Shore?

I was busy loading the bike onto the Haldane's trailer when he arrived back, hadn't phoned him yet. Wound down his window and asked "Hey, what’s wrong with the bike?". I told him that some scum bag had hit it and then buggered off. He then very sheepishly said, "I'm sorry, that was me......". The dude from Haldane's had a big smile on his face when he left, he experienced some pretty raw public humiliation :-).

The bike weighs a little over 320Kg's so pushing back 40cm on that fat tyre must have taken some force.

Train from Penrose to the city, MEXX from the city to Constellation, wife from Constellation to Murray’s Bay. Tomorrow will have to take the Daytona to the office . Always knew there was a reason for a spare bike

And I assume you will have the forks checked out of course, but that was kinda obvious so I didn't mention it at first, head bearings too.

One of the worries of parking in car parks is that you fret all day about the carnage that could be happening out there. Motorbike parks are a bit of a rarity around here which is surprising in this day and age of traffic jambs and carbon emmisions. You would think that we should be encouraged to commute on bikes.

Ahh bugger, sorry to hear about that happening to your ride. At least the pillock had the gumption to front up and admit his wrongdoing - not that it helps you with your now, less than pristine machine

Get the guys to do a fine-tooth comb over the whole bike and hope that it's all fixable I guess!

And yeah, spare bike is always a handy thing to have ... in your case, your spare bike is easily someone else's first choice!

yeah! cause a VL1500 doesn't cause as many emmisions as, say a 1000cc car!

Big up's to the guy for coming back, facing up like that (to a biker) was a big thing to do.
Obviously he shouldn't have dinged your ride in the first place, but after having a panic attack he obviously realised he had to do the right thing.

At least you get to check the bike out properly and with him admiting fault you won't have to pay excess on insurance. It could have turned shitty even with the guy's rego.

Wish more drivers had the same some sort of decency like the prick who did the same thing to my bike and left it lying in a gutter.
