    Can you follow this.

Do a gradient with transparent as one value in a new layer. Make it a selection and apply a blur to the source layer below. It works in a selected area - this is exagertated for demo.

Good effect, Dave, and thanks for sharing. However - what was the gradiant for? The pics don't show the layers box, so it's a little difficult to tell.

Yeah sorry - I have dual monitors the other pallets are on that.

the gradient to transparent 'feathers' the filter IYKWIM?

You do it in a new layer so the selection can be so feathered.
Then drop down to the background layer to apply the filter and it gives you the gradient effect on the filter - like dof.

Brilliant! Never thought it was that easy.

I suppose i can actually simulate heatwave (like the pic with R1 on the track above) with similar method. Will try this tomorrow when im fresher.

I like how the edited picture has an almost 3d look to it compared to the first picture. Very nice.

Cheers - I sussed that one myself.

I picked that shot because it was quick and easy - but it works in irregular shapes as well. Draw a path around the area receeding and the gradient can be angled too.

It is only emulation too - nothing beats the real thing:

Nice photo. The first picture on the thread I mean, but there are other good photos here too. Dead keen on the 07 CBR600RR, will get one myself one day. Not too keen on the frontal of the new R1, looks a bit goggley eyed for me.

Always been interested in photography but never gotten around to learning to edit them properly. Would be good to do one day, though I know myself too well to say I'll actually get around to doing it!

Couple of my recent photos (unedited):
    1. From the top of the Eiffel Tower. I held the camera out at arms' length through the cage...
    2. From the bottom. Camera not on tripod, on candle lit mode. Didn't quite keep the camera still enough - close though.
    3. Fat Tony's GSXR750, in Yorkshire.

Cheers dude That was taken Easter weekend.

Definitely mate. Go for a ride to a nice setting, get Mrs KD to tag along, and get some good photos taken of the two of you and your bikes. And the scenery of course
