Question What d'ya think? ... RED REP debate

can't help noticing that the rep system - red rep in particular - causes a large amount of upset on here...

who has done it to whom and how many times etc

I'm not suggesting rep be canned entirely - it's prolly too late for that and, anyway, green rep's a good way for peop's to comment directly on each other's posts ...

BUT - would it be a good idea to get rid of RED rep?
if so, entirely? or mebbe limit the amount? or just abolish people's ability to make inflamitory/threatening comments with it?

C'mon people ----- let's have some of your thoughts on the subject? Fixing the red rep thingy may go a long way towards fixing some of the bickering going on around here [not saying the mods will take any notice of this - but at least we can throw 'em some ideas ........... if we have any ...]

ps - if you don't wanna talk about it here, that's fine - but if you afterwards start bitching about rep i shall have to kill you ....................

Red rep is an awesome way for insecure people to let me know how bad their day was whenever i post something slightly threatening to their sense of livelyhood... it's the damn internet, get over it...

If that's the case the same could be said for red rep, or do we only want to hear good things? Surely knowing you've caused offence is of more benefit than fatuous agreement?

Personally I don't see the point of the rep system.

All comments, good and bad, should be out in the open. If you aren't prepared to say it out in the open in front of other people then it's probably inappropriate. People would tend to be a bit more circumpsect about some of their shitty comments if they knew their "peers" would see what an arse they really are.

does anyone really care? And if you do, really don't take it personally. Go outside, get on your bike and go get some air

Rep was brought onto to KB for people to show their agreement or disagreement with a certain post.

What pisses me off, it has become a tool for bullying, and even more for rewarding people for some really pathetic behaviour. I have been told by people that cetain members of KB obviously contribute a lot to this site, because they have a lot of rep... wtf? I think people need to open their eyes and see the value or rep... i.e. Fuck all!

As White Trash always says "I hate fucken polularity contests" (gotta love that man)

Ideal world it would be used the way it was intended, but I have realised that is far gone...

Use the green rep as you feel fit.

The minute red rep is being used to bully or harras other members, it is seen as abuse and will dealt with as per the site rules.

    Keep it clean.
Or find somewhere else to play.

    Pretty simple eh?

edit: Oh yeah. my vote would be for getting rid of rep all together (green and red)

I agree with Joni in that red rep is often used by people as a way of either needling or intimidating members "off the radar" of discussion on open forums. Consequently this sort of misuse goes completely unnoticed until the recipient has enough and raises the matter (rightly) with Mods.

My jury is still out regarding the rep system -- in terms of the benefits outweighing the costs or vice versa. But I do believe that the ability to rep is a priviledge that should be revoked for people who constantly abuse it.

I like the green rep system. I like that if I say something that appeals to someone they don't have to follow my post up with: "Yeah man that was funny!". Also gives mikey an opportunity to rant

I see little point in the red-rep feature. Life doesn't have red-rep (or green I suppose)...it has reasonable conversation and debate.

Some grunters are smart enough to know that:
    "Repost...." = "Repost"

...and infact they will post that 10,000+ times.

some people need to get a life. what do they do in real life when someone disagrees with them? if red rep is taken away the abuse will still happen via PM. we can all see who's doing the repping, so what's the problem? there's some real machocists on here - just keep coming back for more.
