Got to disagree, hell I've got 140k out of Mrs V's XV250 Virago - an XV1600 should do a little better!

Welcome to the site tohorawarrior, hope you enjoy both the site and your new bike.

It definately sounds a bit underpowered, getting only 140 tops. Any noticable symptoms? Are you getting a good roll-on of power when opening the throttle at 100k ?

Something way wrong there bud, get the mill checked out. - Or take ya foot off the brake
My X 1300 pulled 190 and still had some, before wisdom set in and told me close to half a tonne of bike and rider should not be up there.

Mate, you got something really wrong happening there. Anything that displaces 1600cc should pull 140 with at least one spare cog. I've had my 17 year-old 1340cc HD up to 180 several times and I can tell there's more in it, it's just a handful at that pace.

I'd spend the bucks and have it looked at if you're not mechanically inclined, as anything that's holding your bike back that much can't be good for it. In fact I'd put this thread in General maintenance and see if anyone else (other than those who peruse Hogs and Cruisers) can help.

Defintely something wrong there dude, I've got an 800 and I can get up to 140 in a sinch, but no much faster than that, so your 1600 should go like a bat out of hell.

your right, it isn't going right , you should be able to get way more than that out of it, check the air filter isn't full of & get some new spark plugs too. Find out when it was last serviced, if it is overdue that could be part of the problem ! If that doesn't improve it then try the bike shop for answers.
    Congrats on your new cruiser

Motor checked over, plugs ok, new filter commin from oz (cant get in NZ apparrantly). Some one put two Harley mufflers on, which dont offer enough volume space(my mechanic says). But wait theres more the d___head welded them on. They have now been gutted, Bike sounds better apart from back firing at change down. Mid range is better, 0--100 very quick, still only 150. Maybe thats all i could expect for 63 hp.

Sounds positive. However 150 tops is still way short of the mark. I don't know for sure what an XV1600 top speed is, but must be around the 200 mark. Good luck.

I doubt it would be that high. 170-180 maybe. It's a big heavy maching for such a small HP output.
